looks like that hope will not come to fruition. At least it isn’t Spurs. No way he was going anywhere but Bayern once that job opened. Hopefully Leipzig hold out and get a world record fee for a coach.
Does Jesse marsch get the RB Leipzig job? It seems like he’s been groomed as the replacement for whenever nagelsmann left. Would be cool have an American managing in the champions league.
fair. Was thinking in my head at a club that could make the knockout rounds/actually make some noise.
I’m reading Raphael Honigstein’s article in The Athletic on Bayern getting Nagelsmann and he mentions that the other American manager, Materazzo, has been linked to the Leipzig job.
Well there you have it. If I recall, Ajax was none too willing to negotiate with us for ten Haag before we hired Hansi and he’s got a pretty hefty release clause iirc.
Gentlemen’s agreement to pay full price for their best player next time they come to collect in January.
I get the skepticism, but if there's any club in Germany that's going to play hardball with Bayern it's RBL.
He was a young buck back then. They brought him in for Lahm in just about every game and he just got better and better.
But 7million is an absurd fee to pay even if he was a young buck. He'd been a regular starter for RBL for two seasons at that point. Just another W for Bayern in the German transfer market.
I think the board knew Lahm was going to retire early and made a move. They’ll tell you they overpaid for a teenager
Weren’t those starts in 2nd and 3rd division? Still could be low but I don’t think it’s the travesty you’re making it out to be
I wasn't intending to make it that dramatic, just that I think RBL has a decent argument to feel a little aggrieved by it.
I can’t seem to post it for some reason (TMB keeps blocking it) but I found a B/R article (not the best source, I know) from a few months after saying the fee of €8.5m was surprisingly high. Mentioned that it was on potential from his performance at U19 WC and that David Selke was the golden boot winner from that and went for only €8m and that another mid Goretzka went to Schalke for only €3.5m
I’m all for Bayern bashing, just don’t think this one wasn’t much reason for complaint and they turned a guy with some promise into the best RB in the world and then one of the best mids. I think the biggest complaint Leipzig would have is that they didn’t even get much of that money and most of it went to Stuttgart but that’s kind of their own fault as they would’ve had to agree to that sell on fee
I don't think I did or even tried to act like this was that wild, honestly. Nole mentioned RBL still feeling bamboozled and I posted that response mostly in jest.
I’m still at a loss for how RBL could feel that way as I read more on this. Stuttgart sold him to Bayern for €8.5m after using their buyback of €1.5m. Man, he really blew up in a short period Sorry, this isn’t the thread for this
It doesn’t make sense, but they’re chapped about it. I think moreso they’re looking at the end product. And yes, they were lower tier back then. Kimmich has said a few times in interviews that he thought his agent was fucking with him when he told him that Bayern wanted to sign him.
As much as I dislike them, RBL generally does pretty sound business. This year’s 150mil deficit has more to do with covid than anything, so I don’t really count it.
Sounds like Tottenham have now missed on Rodgers as well as nagelsmann. Neither seemed like realistic targets. Ten hag and Garett southgate seem to be the 2 names making the rounds. Ten hag would be a good hire. Southgate would be hilarious.
I looked it up and he signed an extension that now doesn’t include a release clause and it’s up after ‘22, so Ajax may be more open to letting him leave than they were 2 years ago.
In less than 2 weeks Spurs went from an invite into elite club status to getting used for contract extensions in the Eredivisie.
The Mirror throwing shit against the wall. He’s an extreme long shot for the job imo. His game plan against City was awful but they, more Bale, were pretty fun to watch yesterday.
Wouldn’t put it past Levy to go cheap if he strikes out on other options tbf. Just not sure 7 matches is enough of an audition to get the job.
