Looking at mock drafts and rankings lately, after we drop a few spots as usual in lottery, we will probably have to take Wallstedt with our pick if we are going to get him.
The improvement this team showed from last year to this year is encouraging for Yzerman. We were historically bad last year. We've been without Bertuzzi most the year, Fabbri for about 10 games and counting, Ryan for a good chunk of season, Zadina missed first 5-10 games, Larkin has been out about 5 and counting. And we are still somehow looking about 6th-7th worst team after being miles the worst last year. Keep turning over the roster, developing the young guys and get a little luckier with health and i like the direction this team is going. Still a couple years away from being good, but I think they are only a year or two away from being a team pushing for the 8th playoff spot (more likely 2)
A lot will depend on what we do with Vrana and Bertuzzi. I think it’s 50/50 we keep Vrana long term, but it’s about 5% likely we keep Bertuzzi. Depending what we get back, you could lose another year or two (assuming it’s picks we are closer to two lost years)
Random thought I just had how many times do Seider and Brady Tkachuk fight over the next five years? O/U at 5.5. I’ll say the under because I think it’ll be once per year for a total of five.
Seider has said he wants a pro fight, so as much as I don’t want to see it, it’ll happen. I don’t ever see him in a fight off a face off but he and Tkachuk will have wars six times a year, and they are both huge pests in their own right. It’ll happen.
Mo took a helmet to the chin today and left the game. Hopefully it isn’t another concussion, but based on what I’ve seen I think he probably fucked up his jaw. He didn’t seem to be treated for a brain injury.
Wings with 3 games against Tampa, 1 against Carolina, and 3 against Columbus to finish the season. Imperative we lose the Columbus games. Could increase our lottery odds greatly with a poor finish. All the teams below us have between 1-3 games in hand on us as well.
No Seider today but he traveled with the team which makes me think he didn’t suffer a concussion. Also, due to Covid, the SHL decided to make the semis a best of 5. Rogle is up 2-0, so they can close this out today.
To be fair, if fully healthy 4 first and second liners out of lineup. Going to be a rough last few games
Seider we apparently a beast today, but Rogle lost in OT. Both series are going to game 5’s on Thursday.
I'm really hoping this team will be a lot more fun next year just by adding Seider, Veleno and hopefully a couple other young guys throughout the season. Kind of like the Pistons this year.
I had the game on my iPad last night, so I didn’t pay a ton of attention, but Veleno looked good again from what I saw. At this point I would just roll with he and Ras as 2 and 3 C. Let them continue to learn on the job and hope the lottery balls go our way.
The more I think about, the more I become convinced we should offer sheet Petterson and go for it. It all has a 2% chance of actually happening but I am done with the rebuild/hoping for ping pong balls. If we don't land a top 3 pick in 2022 (which has a greater chance of not happening than it does) we are really nowhere near. Vrana - Petterson - Bertuzzi Zadina - Larkin - Raymond Bottom 6 - Veleno, Rasmussen, Fabbri and whomever else Not one of those guys are older than 26 Sign a top FA D one of the next two years and roll.
Plus there is still a decent chance that a lower picked prospect comes through. Bergren, Johanson, some Swede.
Totally. After this year’s draft they will have sooo many prospects in the system to fill holes in the roster. Basically we need to be bold. Mantha was maybe the start of that.
