Wouldn’t be shocking. The new variants appear to be much worse in younger individuals and people are putting their guard down. Plus maybe they’re more likely that to be admitted now that hospitals aren’t overrun by elderly patients?
higher ed decisions usually domino-effect pretty quickly. I would expect the majority of public colleges/universities to require it for Fall 2021 face-to-face enrollment.
Very small N, very heterogeneous cohort, probably different from the slush of American comorbidities, but gestures towards some hopeful outcomes
I think every college should absolutely require the vaccine to return to campus. Is there good data on how much of a driver elementary-aged kids are in caseload?
I mean the BV-1 variant that popped up at Texas A&M (of course the aggies would have played a part in fucking us all) once was really frightening but it doesnt seem to have spread at all and only showed up once so that's good. Covid19 is 2 mutations away from having the pretty potent interferon-suppressing capabilities thats regular SARS has but with allll the increased transmissibility covid 19 brings to the table and BV-1 likely had one of those mutations. Theres a lot to be pessimissitic about still. Its actually really cool that its thr first and only time a mutation popped up in that particular place in covids genetic code. Maybe it ends up reducing fitness a lot? Iunno.
Ya Its less about pessimism and optimism and more trying to find some way to see if there's a cliff on the horizon and how far away we are from it Smarter people than me who do this professionally will prob sound the alarms way better than i will on a cfb message board lol
I wonder if more research facilities are focusing on the mRNA platform now w the success of Pfizer/Moderna. Might make us (the world) more flexible in our production of boosters.
I’m excited about the potential of MRNA research and the possibilities it provides in AIDS vacinnation and other possibilities. Super exciting time in the medical research field it seems like. Who knew that throwing more money at research leads to more advances.
Well carnival can now either have 95% of their passengers vaccinated and cruise. Or not cruise at all.
Having never been on a cruise, does the CDC/government normally get to have this much guidance on what the rules are? If we could get that along with all major sporting events you could probably get an easy 5-10% of the adult population to buy-in that wouldn't otherwise.
Also, islands can mandate requirements. Even if the cruise itself doesn't mandate for boarding, the islands can for disembarkation
never have been into cruises . other than shuttle cruises to the Bahamas or Key West I rather just fly to a destination and not fear culture
https://www.ctpost.com/news/article/Lamont-hints-he-ll-listen-to-business-owners-16140329.php Gov. Ned Lamont won’t explicitly say whether he will keep the state’s indoor mask mandate in place beyond the end of this month. But he hinted Thursday that he would listen to the state’s business owners, who’ve told him, “Governor, will you take the heat and make it a requirement a little while longer?” Lamont didn’t indicate how long the face-covering rule will last if and when he extends it. “My instinct is the indoor mask mandate will keep going a little longer,” Lamont said during his coronavirus briefing.
https://www.cell.com/cell-reports-medicine/fulltext/S2666-3791(21)00116-6 Overall, CSF IgG [Immunoglobulin G] from 5/7 patients contains anti-neural reactivity. This immune survey reveals evidence of a compartmentalized immune response in the CNS of COVID-19 patients and suggests a role for autoimmunity in neurologic sequelae of COVID-19.
I definitely understand that but you may want to post a cliffs for some of our less-cultured posters.
For some covid patients, the immunity your body builds also can attack your own nerves/central nervous system, and that this may play a role in long term issues arising from covid. Not all of them but some did
Im still confused on death numbers since its when they are reported, not when they happen. Or did they figure all of that out?
Washington County Board of Commissioners Chair Kathryn Harrington is one of many critical of the governor. “We have the vaccine, we have hospital capacity. So what’s the problem?” she asked. https://public.tableau.com/profile/.../vizhome/OregonCOVID-19Update/DailyDataUpdate Having "hospital capacity" MEANS 150 available ICU beds in the whole state
Thibk it varies but Florida says it can take up to 2 weeks. Either way, we've stayed constant with 700-1000 for months
did I read this right? You have 334 Covid patients in the whole state of Oregon and that leaves only 150 ICU beds... do you guys have like two hospitals? Shit this is like a wing of the Cleveland Clinic
Signed up for that DR B alert for available vaccines months ago. Just got my first text that a moderna dose was available if I wanted it until 8 pm lololololoL
Does anyone know the potential exposure/transmission timeline once past two weeks shot 2? know the chance is very low but want to know how many days would you be in the clear after an event with an at home test
Israel and the UK both have had actual serious lockdowns recently, so those numbers aren't exactly apples to apples if we get to that vaccination rate. But we are seeing our overall case rate fall even though a couple of states are seeing increased rates.
I think I saw June something as the date that the UK is fully reopened. From my understanding they just reopened outdoor dining?
Yeah I don't know the extent, but I do know that they didn't abandon lockdowns like we did (which were obviously less strict) recently.
something something unhealthy/obese population something something privatized healthcare but damn maybe we did focus too much on 2nd dose vs getting as many first doses as possible in arms. We also have 40% of our population actively trying to kill the other 60% sooooo that’s not helping either.
Per CDC guidelines, you don't need to get tested unless you are showing symptoms https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/testing.html
