Soroka, Fried, Ynoa, Ian is a nice starting 4 pending health and performance. Put $11mil in long relief. I still want to work Touki in as the 5th. The stuff is there And ffs, sign Shane greene
Those will be our starting 4 going into the offseaons. AA will undoubtedly sing some shitty LHP for 12-18 million and it will be a complete waste like Cole & Drew.
The fifth this year is just a placeholder for Kyle Muller. Would be shocked if he’s not in the rotation by 2022.
and with the phillies extra innings loss today, the atlanta braves are now in sole possession of first place in the NL east
Smyly’s contract is pretty egregious but we also gave Josh Tomlin $1.5 mil to come into games were already losing and put the lead further out of reach
A little inflated by his four HBPs, but he’s made significant improvements to his pitch selection; he’s still striking out too much, but he’s getting an extra walk in there every 5-6 at-bats compared to the last two years.
Bowman made an interesting suggestion. With the bullpen being so top heavy with similar hard throwing lefties with a good breaking ball, it would be interesting to move Bryse to the bullpen with the intent to use him in late/high leverage appearances for the rest of the season, letting him go full bore an inning at a time. As opposed to sending him down next week and kept stretched out as a starter in AAA. I like it. Fried is coming back next week and we have to bump someone. Go ahead and do it. Let him get comfortable, find his spot in the pecking order, and give some relief to our overused relievers. Then hope Smyly can prove capable for 2 months. Heading into July we could have a very promising rotation of Soroka, Max, Ian, Ynoa, and Charlie, in no particular order, with Smyly expendable. If he’s proven capable, AA can probably off load him before tor deadline for something for the future. Obviously, so much could happen that would change this plan. But, for the most part, I like it. It only would give us Wright in case of further injury without making a trade, so we’d be razor thin. But we already are in the pen and Bryse might really solidify that. What says Smoltzy?
Smyly is a negative asset. no way he's getting traded. best thing we can hope for with him is a phantom IL stint or maybe move him to the pen. but we don't really need left handed relievers. I think moving bryse to the pen would be great.
Unless Bryse is going to stop throwing middle-middle fastballs in high leverage counts, there's not really a good role for him here.
I didn’t mean we’d get something good, just something. Hell I’d take a Kerry Lightenberg deal for some bats and balls. Cost of raw commodities are going up.
yeah that would be ideal. just don't think anyone would take him with that contract. i guess we could eat some of it. I am naively hoping that we will make a couple of moves at the deadline similar to what we did in '19 when we got Green, Martin and Melancon.
really need smyly, wilson, and wright to figure it out. Ian’s innings will be managed, who knows with soroka, and ynoa’s will probably have to be managed a bit too.
I'm guessing Mike being on 60 day DL gives them a 40 man spot for Santana until they can see if he's worth a shit or not?
April, 30 7:37pm Drew Smyly (L) Robbie Ray (L) 1. Ronald Acuna Jr. (R) CF 2. Freddie Freeman (L) 1B 3. Marcell Ozuna (R) LF 4. Ozzie Albies (S) 2B 5. Travis d'Arnaud (R) DH 6. Dansby Swanson (R) SS 7. Austin Riley (R) 3B 8. Ehire Adrianza (S) RF 9. Alex Jackson (R) C
I think he was already on. Newk didn't count against the 40-man while on the Covid list, so with him coming back, they moved Soroka to the 60-day instead of DFA'ing someone.
How does Kranitz still have a fucking job So much pitching talent and just have been shelled all year long
I didn't watch the game last night b/c I was watching the draft. Drew Smyly fucking sucks. So does Webb. Fuck both of those guys
