When reading about both McNeil and Onwuzurike before the draft, it sounded like both guys were stuck playing NT in a 3-man line in college, and both seemed better suited to play in a one-gap scheme. Seems like they're really banking on the upside on both with a scheme change. McNeil got some Javon Hargrave comps, which would be an incredible get at this point.
Sounds like we running 4-3 and they do different things. One is athletic and can pressure and other is a run stopper
I like both guys a lot. We had a huge need there. I would have liked McNeil better in the 4th after taking Onwuzurike in the 2nd, though, because I don't think we're going to like the talent at WR by the time we get to our next picks. I would be really surprised if we don't trade back at least once at either 101 or 112. No way we're leaving with only six picks. If we don't deal back, I'll be convinced we move at least one pick from the 22 draft to go again in round 4 or 5.
Hearing all this damning information about how bad their draft picks were looking back...how the fuck did Quinn get a job?
We are already further along in the mew regime than the last with no WTF moments. I’d probably steer clear of WR rest of the way, maybe could talk myself into Nico Collins.
In Quinn's first draft, he took Decker, A'Shawn, Glasgow and Dahl. We've done this before. That draft would have been great if it wasn't for A'Shawn, who was a terrible fit for Caldwell's defense and couldn't rush the passer at all.
True, I’m sure they did some stupid shit before the draft though. Since day one Holmes and crew have done smart decisive moves that makes sense for a rebuilding process. Will it work, tbd
State fan here and I think that could very well be correct on Alim. He actually got up close to 340 this past year because we didn’t have much depth behind him and that added weight took away some of his pass rush juice. Also worth noting that he’s a true junior and never played on the line in HS so I think he has a lot of improvement left. Nice kid too, will represent your franchise well.
Monty Rice was a LB I thought we might target with one of our next two picks and just went off the board to Tennessee. Browning, Cox and Moses are probably the best ones left if we want to go that position.
Seriously, we should just draft Quinn Meinerz and let him become our RG. He’s raw but he’s huge and an amazing athlete.
Tore his ACL in 2018 or 19 and didn't play well last year. Bama LBs also haven't done very well and it seems like they always have medical issues when they get to the draft.
Another guy I could see Holmes/Glenn really liking who is still on the board is Elijah Molden. Brugler and some other people really liked him and had him as a top 50 guy. He's a safety/nickel type who has no measureables but was really good at Washington.
It seems like the first 3 picks were guys with projectable growth as a player. Sewell because he's young, both DTs because they're in more favorable scheme. Could be a theme, could be nothing at all.
I don't have anybody I want with the next pic. Molden seems solid and that's a big roster hole. Maybe Tylan Wallace?
He doesn't really have a postion. He's a really good cover LB who doesn't rush the passer and doesn't really play the run inside.
I think he's coming for Oruwariye in 2022 at the other corner (assuming Okudah stops sucking and plays the other side)
It feels like we spared no expense with this coaching staff for this reason. A kid like this is getting coaching from Aaron Glenn and Aubrey Pleasant, two of the more respected DB teachers in the game. You gotta provide those guys clay to mold. That was the problem with Quinn and the Rapist. They wanted robots with dimensions that fit the schematic. And it’s why we are years away from being decent.
Glenn and Pleasant definitely makes me more bullish on any CB we take, and especially someone with this kind of talent.
