Meshuggah has officially started recording a new album, and announced that Frederik is back for both the studio and touring. Guess I’ll be making plans to see them.

I know they’re over the hill, but I’m still excited. Violent Sleep of Reason really grew on me after initially being pretty disappointed.

I haven’t gotten into any of their albums other than Nothing and ObZen (which is an elite metal album).

I think they’re at their best when they fold in some atmosphere as a counterpoint to all the furious drums and time signature riffs.

I love them. Catch 33 is basically a metal opera in 4 movements. It’s so great.

Been a while since I listened to them but I remember liking Nothing more than Obzen. Probably need to relisten though.

    some of my recent pre-orders:

Amorphis - Tales from the Thousand Lakes [resissue]
(absolutely classic Finnish death metal, great folk melodies)

    Opeth - Blackwater Park [25th anniversary re-issue]
(this album and In Flames’ Colony bridged the gap for me to harsh vocals)

    Darkthrone - Eternal Hails
    (see post above)

Nice, all on vinyl? I just recently started collecting, so I’ve only got four records so far after seeing what the local shop had: Opeth - Still Life, Bell Witch - Mirror Reaper, Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, and Skeletonwitch - Devouring Radiant Light, which I randomly found at another store.

I also preordered the Blackwater Park 20th anniversary, since it was also a formative record for me.

I do love that Amorphis record.

Yep, all vinyl. Started collecting in 2019, it’s been fun so far.

I get most of my stuff from Bandcamp, but have some great local shops here that I frequent occasionally.

Yeah I’ve been using bandcamp for merch, especially on Bandcamp Friday each month. I’ll just add vinyl to those orders. The shops where I live are solid but don’t have a huge metal selection, so will have to order most things.

Cool - will post in here more regularly when I pick something up.

some advice, start a Discogs account and track your collection in there. so much easier to do at the beginning and it helps keep track of everything. fun to watch the collection grow, and you can keep a ‘wantlist’

not the most user friendly site, but i got the hang of it eventually.

Other than my Black Sabbath collection which is categorized differently, this is my metal section. I have a punk/hardcore one that kinda overlaps. Stuff like Cave In, Botch, Converge, or Shai Hulud goes there.

i think the people in Gojira are great humans, and enjoy a few songs of From Mars to Sirus ('Backbone', 'Flying Whales'), but the rest of their material is really boring.

i've tried extensively and they just don't 'hit'.

From Mars to Sirius is a great album. i never really loved Gojira but i saw them open for Mastodon and they were an A+ live band. i was hoping they would finally do a full-on Crack the Skye prog album, but it never happened

    newer stuff i liked:
    this riff is great

they did this tapping part that ripped

    otherwise :idk:
