Sports are so funny. Three weeks ago, I couldn’t give less of a shit about what urban had to say about anything, and now I’m hanging on every word out of his mouth. It could obviously turn in to a train wreck, but you can’t ask for much more from Shad as an owner with this hire.
We'll have the money to pay him the contract he'll want next season but not sure we have the capital to go get him. Also not sure we're at a point of going and getting a guy like that.
He’s a UFA after this year. Yes we would have plenty to give him a long term deal, but could also get left with giving all that up on a 1 year rental for a team that won’t make the playoffs.
Obviously you want the guy at his position to be trusted to protect your (hopefully)new franchise QB. At the same time, do you spend the money to pay an established guy for multiple years before you're even a playoff team - best case scenario.
I don't think the playoffs is out of the question next year and certainly not in 2022. Besides, you are going to have to pay Robinson anyhow.
I'm not sure any part of our defense gave me that feeling this year, even if the offense does a complete 180 - which is a lot to ask, even if you have a metric fuck ton of faith in Lawrence.
That’s two starters in the secondary, so that’s good. Lot of work to do though and it would be nice to do something for the franchise QB we’re about to draft.
Elite name change for the thread. I wasn’t too pleased with a RB in the first, but he certainly adds a dimension we don’t have on the roster. Jenkins, Barmore, Asante, JOK, or Moehrig for the next pick and I’m happy. There’s a ton of talent remaining.
It appears as though Tyson Campbell will be the next pick. can’t say as I love that, but everywhere on defense needs help.
I think you guys are getting pretty good value for your spots so far. Contributors at every pick so far is how it looks...
Missed last night on account of doing cross country flights with a 3 year old and 6 month old, trying my hardest not to pull the exit door open and just jump out. The second round seems...interesting? That corner appears to have been picked on a lot but has good measurable. Stanford guy hasn’t played in two years. The safety in the 3rd is apparently a turnover machine, so that’s cool. I think the CB pick is the most suspect so far, would be interested to hear what happened there.
It’s a bit of a gamble, but it’s not like he hasn’t played in two years because of consecutive injuries. It was just one. I’m guessing the staff was happy with the medicals and how his knee looked. He’s the most talented OT in the entire draft if he’s healthy.
It looks like urban identified the weaknesses and addressed them in free agency, then hedged those bets in the draft. Wilson doesn’t work out? Put in Cisco. Cam still stinks at LT? Walker Little time. I don’t love it, honestly, but he’s earned some faith, so I’ll just see how it plays out.
There are just so many weaknesses to identify, this is truly a rebuild in every sense of the word. I’m just assuming Urban is building a system and choosing players to fit that system, just like he did everywhere in college. Brevin Jordan would be nice in the 4th.
Worst scoring offense and defense last year. There were maybe 3 bright spots on the team last year? Myles, Viska, and Robinson? No one else comes to mind.
I’m pretty sure he never followed them, but when people started saying he unfollowed them, he followed them on Instagram. He does currently.
defensive roster is cheeks, but it remains to be seen how the FA signings help. offensively it’s not terrible, and a competent qb is going to make that whole side of the ball look a whole lot better.
And a competent coaching staff. I don’t think most under fans how comically bad things were under Marrone especially the latter half of last season.
The fact that todd wash made it the whole season actually made me feel bad for the players, basically a waste of a season. It did lead us to Trevor though so no hard feelings.
Dylan Moses as an UDFA is a nice lottery ticket. He was a 1st round pick prior to his ACL in 2019. Came back last year and was just awful. Just looked lost and like he forgot how to play the position. I wouldn't have used a pick on him but a flyer has upside.
