We're planning on having a Memorial Day get together. Loads of BBQ and an open bar. May get a band for the backyard if the HOA allows it. Gotta show your vax card at the door. Going to piss off some people but idc. I'm ready to have some fun. People have had plenty of time by then. If they choose not to, that's on them.
Asking people without transportation to drive 45 minutes (90 round trip) and take off work is a really difficult ask. I don’t own a car, but wanted to get vaccinated ASAP so I got the first available appointment. Work was fine with me leaving, but I spent $150 on a car rental vaccine dose 1 and missed 3 hours of work. On dose 2, I paid a driver $250, worked on my iPad on the drive and then took the next day off work. Obviously, I had the desire and means to do this, but anyone struggling to get by would have to give up more time or wait a while / get lucky for a closer shot.
that's fair. when i was looking about a month ago, walgreens allowed scheduling like 4 weeks out, so you could find something in your neighborhood if you wanted to wait your workplace not paying you for the time involved in getting vaccinated wasn't something i really thought about. that's fucked up but not surprising
also driving 45 minutes to go maybe 20 miles is a decent commentary about how terrible traffic is here, but that's an extremely local problem
Don’t misconstrue this as me complaining about my employer. I have zero material complaints about how they’ve handled covid. They recently had round 1 of the shots in the office for employees and spouses, but it was 3 weeks after my first shot and we weren’t sure if we would have enough interest to be allowed to get the shots. Thus, I made the decision to go my own way.
I didn't mean for it to come off that way. I just didn't really factor in employers who were like "yeah, get the shot on your own time"
I mean her point is valid but that horsewhisp response totally addresses the matter in my mind. The Democrats need to position themselves to educate this particular class of voter *if* they actually give a fuck - but of course that's a big if.
I know something that a college football conference could do to increase the vaccination rate of a lot of those states...
And she was basically stating that Democrats are going to lose seats if they pass legislation increasing taxes on those people, you know despite basically all polling that shows otherwise.
He asked what the tweet said, and just stopping at 500k doesn’t explain it. I’m not agreeing with her. Settle down.
What's amazing about her tweet is that moving the highest bracket down from 628+ to 400+ and making that 39% vs 35%.... It's a whopping $5,000 per year in additional taxes So now you're brining home $12,704 each check. Post Biden it is $12,500. HOW WILL THEY LIVE
Had a friend recently be completely miffed at me being flippant toward a tax increase. "Your taxes are going to go up!" OK cool? It's 5k I would have spent on something stupid. I'll be ok. I'll live. I'll be able to afford groceries. We're talking peanuts here. Sure the billionaire's peanuts add up to a lot but it's still peanuts to them. The extra $100m or whatever to them is like $5k to me. I wanted badly to ask him why he even cared when it didn't affect him at all but didn't want to come across like a dick.
No one making $500k in an expensive city thinks they are “rich” but they also generally recognize they are doing better than the vast majority of others in that city. Are some major cities expensive as hell? Yes. Does that make $500k a middle class income in those cities? Of course not. And Ruhle et al know better than this bullshit.
This is the type of tax savings that made Better Call Saul vote for trump. What a piece of shit he is.
That guy was some mid level contract in the military probably making like 90k. Decent money but lmao at being trick and thinking he pays fucking taxes.
One of the replies in her Twitter thread rightly pointed out that anyone who makes that kind of money, lives in the suburbs, and recently flipped from voting GOP to Democrat almost certainly is not dumb and knows what they may be getting into. They aren't going to be shocked if they have a slight tax increase and certainly aren't going to run back to the GOP if that party keeps nominating Qanon people to Congress.
He was former active duty and current civilian contractor doing bookkeeping for the DOD. His wife was an active duty physician pretty high up the totem pole. They prob made 250-350k.
Had this conversation at dinner last night. People aren’t quitting g jobs of UE, they aren’t taking shit paying jobs because they are shit paying jobs.
Yea, it isn’t rich, but imagine the people working at the coffee shops they frequent and imagine how they have to live in the same cities on 6-7% of that. Pay a little more you assholes.
