I had some bad luck last night. Had one run get hit my a bug where I couldn't interact with anything. Then a long run where it hard locked my console. So that was unfortunate. Other that smooth sailings.
Returnal is a damn blast. The combat is fast and frenetic. Really enjoying it so far. Story seems pretty interesting so far as well.
I suck at video games. I think it’s pretty hard. Got to the first boss once, haven’t made it back since.
It is definitely difficult. It's also kind of luck based. You need the right drops to make it go smoother.
I didn't need it, I don't really want it but I got it anyway. https://www.gamestop.com/video-game...on-5-dualsense-charging-station/11106283.html
Is there saving at every Biome? Game is pretty fun, but I need to know when I can reach a stopping point
For someone like myself who can sometimes only play for 15-30 minutes, frequent save points are a must. It’s the issue I had with Doom and some other games where it’s like “you get to save once ever 1.5 hours.”
There are no saves, lol. You can find a safe spot then put your pa5 into rest mode, but there’s some known issues sometimes when powering back up.
I would... if I wasn’t getting skullfucked in this damn room I keep going into. Flying laser beams and then some big ass dude shooting flames at me is not ideal.
There’s a perma-unlock item you’ll get for that. As Aussie said, go towards the objective marker. Use the teleportation pads if you’ve just finished one objective and need to make your way to another but don’t feel like risking a run in with something that’ll kill you in a random room.
That boss fight was so cool, but it's definitely a lot for a first boss. All the different things happening on screen at once can be tough to keep up with. Stay on the move constantly, and don't let them come for you. So far, the adds are usually in the rooms 5 or 10 seconds before the big enemy comes in so try to cover as much ground and take out as many smaller ones as you can in that time frame.
Useful tips: - you can use the hanging guys that grab you as elevators - you can go back to your ship and heal yourself i think twice in the first biome so you can use the health as resin Also you know it is going to be a good run when you find the astronaut figurine.
Yep, playing with the Pulse 3D's or whatever they're called. Probably better ones out there, but these have gotten the job done.
Game does not save at any point. I understand not wanting to cheapen the experience, but they could do something like Hades where it autosaves when you enter a room. It is really frustrating when I go through and clear biome 1 the game crashes and then you are SOL.
Wait, it never saves? How the hell? lol I just went into my old house and felt like I was making progress
It definitely needs some kind of save feature. You can get some pretty long runs. Maybe have it where you can save once and once it's loaded it deletes the save.
They should add the ability to save and delete the save automatically if you die or go below X% of your HP. That would prevent save-scumming.
I was watching triplewreck play over the weekend and he had a decent run going, probably 45+ minutes in and his game crashed. Sucks to lose it all based off something out of your control.
How much have you noticed the controller when playing it? Sounds like they took advantage of the new controller.
When that happens to me in games, I typically quit the game for a month+. It's very frustrating to make progress and see it instantly wiped away for no fault of your own. I may wait a month or so to buy and hope they fix the crashes and save issues.
Subnautica didn't have an autosave feature, when I'd be playing for 3-4 hours and then the game would crash I'd go into an absolute rage. Can't imagine what it'd be like for a game that literally has no save. That sounds stupid, what is this 1988?
I've only noticed the triggers, but it's awesome how they implemented the regular shot vs alt-fire by using a half pull/full-pull.
Had about a 2-3 hr run end last night on the 3rd boss. Had all kinds of healing/damage buffs on, and felt unstoppable for most of the run. Barely got the boss halfway down. It seriously might be the toughest first attempt at a boss I've ever had
Returnal feels like it’ll be a blast. Played like 45 mins. I’m accidentally triggering alt-fire a lot.
Is it the type of game you need to have time for? As a dad-gamer who has limited time, I feel like these types of games I just wouldn't have the time to enjoy since you need to "stay with it"...once I put it down for a couple of weeks id probably not feel like starting over
You dont really "start over" per se since it's a roguelike. Eventually any run will reach the end and you start at the beginning.
I went into it with the wrong gun and it took me half the fight to figure out what to shoot at. Felt like I was just spending all my time dodging and never had a chance to fire.
I personally notice it quite a bit. The small vibrations when the rain or sand is hitting you. The triggers are definitely cool. The vibration with the weapons is nice too. Makes them feel more punchy.

Yeah, beat the boss and a cutscene plays then boom all 15 artifacts, my sweet assault rifle, and parasites were gone. Found a sweet pylon gun, astronaut figurine, and a parasite that raises integrity a bunch then the game crashed. Only thing that didn't make me want to break everything was I woke up in the 4th biome again.
got about halfway through the phrike fight on my first shot. helpful tip: dont get the parasite that makes you take fall damage.
If it has good upside and the downside is takes fall damage from a big fall I do it every time. Just have to dash before you hit the ground. The trade-off is usually worth it.
Fall damage is one of the better negative effects I have found. Now enemies counter, acid pools, or picking up items damages you I avoid like the plague.
