I saw some tweet the other day. Instead of reporting to spring training in best shape of his life, he should report in worst shape of his life.
Candelario seems like he could be a legitimate average major leaguer. Might be a good deadline trade piece for Avila in 2023.
Struck out again. 1 for 10, 8 strikeouts. at what point does this become a concern? He had like 16 strikeouts in. 32 at bats during spring training.
I think most of the arm chair GMs on this board wanted Martin too. I think if Covid didn’t cancel last season he would have been clear cut #1 selection. I think mlb pipeline had Tork #1, which is why Avila took him.
It was kind of weird though. Most places put Tork #1 the last couple months. But before that, it was almost unheard of to take a 1B in the top 5. Was it Vaughn that was picked #3 the year before and that was a "big dea"? Also, if you fact check me I could be completely wrong.
I’d have to go back in the thread and look but I think it was a beat writer making an excuse for why he wasn’t playing well because he had to play pro ball after college
Yeah I went back and looked from 2016 to 2020. Nobody he selected in rounds 2 to. 5 made the majors. he did pick Garcia (6th round) and Skubal ( 9th round), but that’s it.
he got drafted in the 2nd round. He signed his contract very quickly, went straight to low A ball, and struck out a ton. Some of you freaked out and said he was a bust. I said it's a long season for a college kid who gets drafted and signs, he might just be tired, and it's stupid to give up on someone after 6 weeks because of it. You and your twin didn't like it.
