I’d rather get the two from Wisconsin and the kid from Vegas but yea if ND only gets two of those 3 then go all in on Rice til signing day Prediction Rice signs with UNC
Don’t they just do this when they’re recruiting? Feel like we’ve been fooled thinking this was an impending commitment and it turned out it was an offer or something
i think they send this a day or two before a commitment. Not sure we’ve been fooled, I don’t follow recruiting enough to know?
that's the best TE class again this year..i like this trend and i'm perfectly fine with them taking 2 each year and let a kid transfer if he can't make the depth chart as long as it's top level talent that are fighting for spots
He kind of looks exactly the same as he looked in hs, which makes him look younger. He is aging like a fine wine
Let’s make freeman in charge of wr recruiting as well as the other things he does. I can put up 100$ for a new billboard
Man, I miss South Dining Hall. Would walk by the lineman table on my way out and see dudes with 3 different drinks, two plates overflowing with like three different meals on them, a bowl of cereal for good measure, and you know they were getting an ice cream cone on their way out. Weis era.
I was always partial to the meat carving station. The servers and I had an understanding. Load ‘er up.
A couple other football player related moments from when I was at school: -In my intro to Film class, we watched a French New Wave film from the 1940s. On the way out of the theatre after the two hour black-and-white film with subtitles, jump cuts, etc. I heard James Aldridge loudly yell to Johnny Ryan - "never again, Johnny, never again!!" -I fell asleep in a class one day and woke up when people started packing. Munir Prince tapped me on the shoulder and said "bro, you were SNORING LOGS" and all the football players he was with started laughing at me -In a junior year finance class, we were taking a spring final. I turned my test in and walked out. One of the football players I knew (won't say who) called me over to a group of like 5-6 football players standing outside of Mendoza. I start thinking "what the hell..." and walk over. He asks me "Yo, CTownND, what version of the test did you have?" (it was an A or B test version type thing). I said "B" and immediately they all started cursing. Supposedly one of them was cheating off of me, and the others were cheating off of him, but they didn't realize until after the test was over there was an A and B, so there was a decent likelihood somebody with an A test was giving all the answers to the B test. I left pale faced thinking I would somehow be involved in a cheating scandal that kicked me and 6 football players out of school that I wasn't even aware of and was panicking for a few weeks. Luckily, never heard of that test again after that moment
Wiltfong on Joey Tanona: I think we're going to stock him up overall and also move him to center. He'll be the No. 1 center in the country as far as I can see right now.
I watched that video and was stunned to see he was faster in the different drills than guys who were way smaller than him. If he sticks at center, he's got an All American future super high on him, Scrauth, and Ty Chan...if we land Jake Taylor and combine it with last year's class, I wouldn't trade out oline recruiting with anyone else's, including Bamas
the Athletic interviewed Jeff Ireland - New Orleans Scouting Guy. Here's what the had to say about Book Spoiler Let’s talk about Ian Book. I know Sean Payton really liked him, especially his intangibles. What else? Ireland: Well, for me, the quarterback position starts with checking a couple of boxes. Was he a three-year starter? Yeah, three-year starter. Was he 60 percent-plus for a career passing percentage? Yes, he was. Was he 2-to-1 touchdown ratio? I think he was. Was he a two-time captain? Yes, he was. When you talk to his teammates, did they want him on their team moving forward? They have absolutely did — unanimous. He’s a culture builder in the locker room. Can he make plays when it’s out of phase? Yes. Does it as good as anybody, I thought, in this year’s draft. When the play breaks down, he can make a play. Arm strength? Look, that’s probably not one of the top three things I’m looking for at quarterback, because I think quarterback arm strength is overrated. He’s got a good arm. He can make all the throws that we want him to make. He’s accurate. He can roll out and throw on the run. He gets the ball out of his hand quickly. He can make quick decisions. Yes, he’s a little short. There’s times that he can’t see it, and so he’ll run and try to make a play with his feet or make a play downfield buying time. We got to teach him, like the staff has taught Drew (Brees), to step up in the pocket and trust what’s supposed to be there, but I’m confident he’ll learn that. I know he can come in and be a good backup and provide really good snaps. He’s not going to need a ton of extra coaching. You’re not going to have to spend time with him when you’re trying to prepare the starter. He’s played a lot of football. He’s a winner. He’s instinctive. He’s a gamer. I think they’ve played football at Notre Dame for a while — over 100 years — and he’s the all-time winningest quarterback. Shoot, I like some of those traits, and I like the tape, too. Is there a good comp for him? I feel like he’s got a little Jake Delhomme in him? Ireland: I can see that. I felt like I saw some (Tony) Romo in the kid a little bit. At times he has eyes in the back of his head. … It’s funny, Mickey and Sean and I, we all have great resources around the league, great colleagues. I probably heard more people give me compliments on the Ian Book pick, people that I trust and know football. They love that player.
Kayin Lee - one of the top 2023 CBs from GA - is coming for an overnight visit to ND at the beginning of June. Want him and the kid from Bama so so bad Spoiler One of the top-ranked cornerbacks in the class of 2023 has locked in an unofficial visit to check out Notre Dame. Irish Illustrated and 247Sports have the latest. Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove four-star cornerback Kayin Lee tells Irish Illustrated that he’ll be at Notre Dame for an overnight trip on June 1 and 2. It’ll be the first trip to South Bend for the 6-0, 160-pounder. “I want to visit Notre Dame because it seems unique and they are big on education,” said Lee Monday morning. “I am looking forward to meeting coach Mickens and coach Bowden and feeling like I am at a place where I can feel great at.” Notre Dame is one of many schools that has already offered the rising junior. Arkansas, Auburn, Colorado, Florida State, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh and others have offered as well. With cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens targeting Lee early, Notre Dame seems to be in a good spot for the Peach State talent. “I spoke with coach (Mike) Mickens and he just seemed like a very cool dude, a guy I can keep it one-hundred with throughout the whole process,” said Lee back in March to Irish Illustrated’s Kevin Sinclair, when he was asked about the Fighting Irish assistant coach. “I feel like they’re really interested in me. A lot of the coaching staff followed me on social media. And I really want to give them a shout-out for that because I actually noticed that. That means a lot to me. 3COMMENTS “My reaction, I was pretty excited,” added Lee of the Notre Dame offer in that previous interview with Sinclair. “I always get excited, me and my dad, when I get an offer. But considering it was Notre Dame being a very, very talented program, it was just amazing. I can only thank God for it. Considering that they’ve been to the College Football Playoff for two out of the last three years, that’s a powerful college football program right there. That means a lot to me considering they’re that great of a school.” 247Sports ranks Lee as the No. 110 overall player in America, No. 9 cornerback nationally and No. 12 prospect in Georgia from the class of 2023.
Can he recruit? I don’t keep up with all these guys anymore, but bottom line - if he can get 8 wins at Kansas, great, but if he’s not achieving that through overachieving at recruiting, I’m not very interested.
I love those quotes from Ireland. Book got a lot of hate from the fanbase & this group, but like.... all time winningest QB ever at ND is a thing. Would I have loved to have Trevor Lawerence, of course, but I hope this kid proves some people wrong in the league.
