There’s a good doc on HBOmax right now called “The Last Cruise” about the Princess Diamond liner that was quarantined in Yokohama during the initial outbreak.
32. Other weddings I've been in we've always been fitted for normal suits. I've never been to a formal black tie event. I feel left out.
It was eerie hearing the ship captain announce passengers that had been taken off the ship and subsequently died. They really didn't care about the safety of the staff. The percentage of people on that ship that died was alarming. The old age of the average patron had to be a primary factor.
Florida/California. Beach/outdoor weddings. Flip flops, cut offs and tanks is customary. What are these black tie events that you go to? Charity? Formal dinners?
The wedding party you’re in that requires you to rent a particular non black one when you already own a regular one is
I need to watch it. What I remember them doing to those people was almost exactly the opposite of what they would do now if a breakout happened on a cruise. I forget which line it was in europe but one of them has sailed 60K passengers with less than 40 people getting sick since last summer. I will try to look up a link for reference.... https://www.maritime-executive.com/article/european-cruise-lines-plan-to-resume-more-sailings
a lot of areas of the country tuxes are the outlier for wedding attire just not in the demographics that make up this board
Worst wedding I was ever in involved walking around downtown Montgomery in dinner jackets in 104 degree heat.
A long time ago I set out a plan to revolve my life around wearing suits/tuxes as little as possible. I am pretty good at it and only have to wear either about once every 3 years. I could not be happier about it.
See I don't know a single person who owns a tux. Probably would be a decent investment if brides didn't insist on always having their own twist on that shit.
Maybe once or twice a year from early 20s to 30ish go to the tux store and rent a tux. Different vests, ties, jackets, shoes, whatever nearly every time.
The staff quarters were akin to submarine racks. I could t imagine the horror of being confined to that coffin for 180 days. No sun light, can barely turn around. Just give me the virus at that point.
It's always great seeing the groom in a new jacket/shirt/etc at the rehearsal dinner that he got for free because the groomsmen spent so much damn money renting suits. I've never been to a wedding where a tux would be required for simple attendee. I have a charcoal suit that I've worn to a work event and a wedding once. I briefly debated buying the tux. Then I thought to myself, "Haven't needed one to this point, so who knows when I will need one next." Also, this wedding is a specific tux, it's not one size fits all. This tux was actually cheaper than the last couple of suits I've had to rent for weddings. Love when they toss in the free $3 socks after renting a suit for a few hundred.
If you don't have a Stetson, Wranglers, boots, and a gun holster then you won't be in my wedding party.
I own a tux. Covid slowed it down but I’d wear it at least 4-5 times a year. Best wedding I’ve ever been to was outside. We sat down, ceremony started right on time. JP had a fantastic mullet and ceremony was less than five minutes. So that was great, then we got to the reception where the DJ was a midget. It was fantastic.
Speaking of road rage, just had some real winner threaten me by flashing a baseball bat out of his car window bc I honked at him for just sitting at a stop sign. be careful who you fuck with ANTWONE Whoops thought I was in the RTT
We live there and I told my gf if we get married here and it’s hot outside we’ll have those giant industrial fans blowing everywhere.
yep. last two weddings I’ve been in I’ve had to rent a tux instead of wear my own. very annoying. getting married in jan and will prob figure out how to return the favor. I do prob wear it 2-3 times a year though so buying one was a no brainer
I owned a tux in college for choir. We got a big discount on ordering so many at once. Got too fat for it though
I wish I wasn’t such a dildo and learned to be handy as a kid instead of playing Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt.
1) ive been to countless weddings and im renting my first tux this month too 2) making your friends rent formalwear is really shitty tbch 3) if you held a formal wedding reveal yourself so I can delete your trophy points for being a twat
I have these, lost enough weight my shoe size is slightly different (still fat though) and I’ve never worn them out of the house. My dog thinks they’re fly and wants to eat them. I rented all the tuxes for my groomsmen. All 9 of them. If that sounds like too many in a wedding party I would agree with you, but my wife would not. Never too late, man. YouTube and life has taught me a lot of cool stuff. Just today I dropped two dying pine trees that were home owners claims waiting to happen for either me or my next door neighbor. The University of YouTube got me educated to the point where both of them fell precisely where I’d intended. *insert picture of Stihl MS 362 CM*
User devine just texted me in a tizzy, he is really worried you are going to find out he had a formal wedding.
