I mean this in the most complimentary way I can, but you need a bigger smoker

I love my kamado joe. Do you like the grill expanded? I haven’t bought one yet because I'm curious how much I would actually use it.

We have the classic II and it’s perfect for the two of us, but when cooking for larger groups or tailgates especially, I use the expander a lot. It works really well, very easy to just throw on and add another level to the grill. Would definitely recommend if you ever cook for larger groups

Anybody ever have an issue with their Thermoworks Smoke probe you use for the grate? Mine isn’t reading on either inputs while the meat probe works fine. They are closed today, so can’t call em.

Thought you guys would get a kick out of this. I’m in between gas grills right. Will probably pick up a Weber Genesis II this week. Had a bag of charcoal in my shed from my old Akorn days so I decided I want to use it on a rib-eye tonight.

Bought this little kettle on the way home today. Made in China, weighs nothing, and cost 16 bucks. Should be a fun little cook tonight.

ive got the big joe 2. I occasionally need extra room but not sure. Does the expander feel secure and stable enough though?

Yeah it really does. It fits right on the grates* and I never worry about it tipping over or anything like that.

*one caveat is it fits on the grates that come with the kJ. It works, but doesn’t fit as snuggly with my cast iron grates. I’m generally not using those if I’mnwwding to use the extender, but I have run into that issue before

one of the best things about cooking ribs is all of the rib snacks you get as the cook progresses

I have a Primo XL but am considering getting a small natural gas grill to have next to it for quick needs such as kabobs, burgers, etc. This would be clearly a secondary cooker. I was wondering if an outdoor griddle or something may be a nice alternative.

Any thoughts on an outdoor griddle vs grill for the secondary grill needs?

You can get a regular gas grill and put a griddle on top. Something like this:

I bought a Smokey Joe a few years back and have taken it on multiple trips/vacations. $10 in charcoal later and I’ve got a nice little portable setup.

I’d be interested as well. Just temp, I pull them at 140. I don’t have a cooking temp, or if I do it’s for whatever else is getting cooked. But definitely have to stay on top of them, 110 could be 150 quicker than you’d think.

I’ve had mine for five years and have had no issues outside of wear and tear. Once Weber moved away from cast iron grates (maybe 2013) then all the replacement problems went away.

Gassers are gassers and the Genesis line is top notch for the price imo.

I had a cherry tree drop a big limb that I've cut up into chunks. I assume I have to let it season. Any idea how long? Or could I put it in a car in the sun for a week or an electric smoker to speed up the process?
