Agreed. Although that was the best Spanish GP in a while; mostly due to Mercedes deciding to do a two stop strategy.
Everyone is bitching about Red Bull’s strategy saying that they should’ve brought Max in after Lewis’s second stop. It probably was the better option, but there was no guarantee that Max was going to win. It still would’ve been the same result; two Mercedes against Max.
Before Lewis' second pit, it was still Lewis always enabling DRS down the straight and Max only maintaining an edge by re-establishing a ~1 sec lead through the turns. In this kind of chase, it seems almost better to be in second so you can use that slipstream and DRS.
Well looks like his engine was down on power because it was going to break down!!! not sure why they didn’t do an engine swap knowing it was likely to happen. This track is notorious for being a train show. Just following the leader. It really is a poor track for action. You rarely see glimpses of F1 drivers going balls to the wall all out for an entire race. Tire allocation, and compound structure has caused nearly every race to be about tire management. Today was a rare day to see someone push a F1 car all out for the entire race. Was awesome to watch. Last time I can remember someone doing this was on this very track during Alonso’s final season at Ferrari. That dude may have pitted twice or three times and still won the race with ease. Was also super fun to watch that day. Aero and a narrow track is a bad combo.
Next year's regulations appear to be addressing the right things. The return of proper ground effect for the cars will theoretically significantly reduce the effects of dirty air, which should really improve the ability for these cars to overtake. Ferrari has been putting a ton of resources into the 2022 car, with the expectation of returning to contending for race wins. Mercedes is just ridiculously good at all aspects so I'm sure they'll be up there too, and Red Bull has historically been a very good chassis/aero team, so hopefully we can have a proper 3-way fight for the title. I'm not writing off 2021 WDC/WCC yet, but Merc seems to have ironed out a lot of their issues. At least the battle for 3rd should be interesting with Ferrari and McLaren the best of the rest.
Why wouldn’t it be? Turkey is off because it was listed at a “red flag covid zone” by the UK government, and with a vast majority of each team made up of UK citizens. Getting in and out was looking to be a challenge. Turkey ask to trade weeks with Baku, but they said no because they’re hosting the UEFA final or something on the weekend turkey wanted to trade. I think a second Austrian can be fun, especially considering the potential for conditions to play a factor like last year.
After watching the Formula 1 show on Netflix I’m now hooked. For Monaco this weekend what channel will it be on and what time live?
Definitely tune in for qualifying. Given the nature of the Monaco track, it is typically very hard to overtake, so qualifying has extra importance this weekend.
