Ended up at the one on Colfax because it’s bigger. Good spot. Beat the Simpsons game. Think we’re hunkering down because of the weather now.

The school district seems to have a solid ranking, is that correct?

Also, the job would be traveling to multiple schools, which I already do now in WI. Are they far apart, how are the roads and traffic, etc.?

It's an Itinerant job in special education. Specialty job working with kids with disabilities.

I wouldn't know which schools I would be servicing so it's hard to be specific. I assume I would probably get the low end of the totem for picking schools as I would be new to the district. Couldn't tell you if it's north south east or west but I could guess it would be a combination of each direction.

I see the district as a whole is ranked in the high 3s to low 4s out of 5 stars.

The schools are pretty clustered in Denver proper imo. If you’re servicing the entire metro it can get real spread out real fast.

Cost of living, general travel conditions, weather, where to live and where to avoid, beer gardens, jazz in the park etc, has anyone graduated from Denver Public Schools, culture of the city and surrounding area, unique restaurants or mainly chains, am I cool enough to meet any tmbers etc etc

Thanks for the reaffirmation, - - - . I get the feeling that Denver and Wisconsin have some things that are close in comparison, but the vast majority go to Denver. I can't say I'm not excited about the potential prospect of moving somewhere that's right up my alley with culture and outdoor activities.

The hardest part for me is the COL. Though it is currently high where I'm at in WI, everywhere I've look says it will be higher in Denver. Couple that with teacher wage, which also is indicated as not being the best there.

Luckily, the teaching job I have is unique which will hopefully bump up the salary. I won't be at just one school meaning I'm not just secluded to the one bad egg school if that's what I am assigned to.

I do have a German Shepard, so I assume rent will be high, or a bit higher than what I have now. Probably 1500 or so.

Either way I am excited, just all depends on the wage

Emma I haven’t lived in Denver since 2016 and moving back next month so others in this thread will be much more helpful. That said.. have a friend who works DPS and she likes it. Seems like the superintendent takes care of the employees.

Cost of living will be higher than WI but it’s all relative. I find Denver to be extremely affordable sans rent/housing prices but I also went from Denver to NYC. You can find a pretty nice place for $1500 if that’s truly your budget ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The real estate market is currently going bonkers, so I think it’s going to be super hard to find a place for $1500 in central Denver.

COL is crazy and is expensive to rent / buy in Denver and certain of the high-profile outdoor towns. However, I think some of Denver's suburbs have some unique and enjoyable qualities, so if you have to live 10-15 minutes outside of Denver, your quality of life will still be good. Think of Arvada, Lakewood, or Littleton.

Also, maybe things are cheaper in the Whittier area, which is an area I really loved when I temporarily lived in Denver in 2016.

Living in Denver is insane expensive; you're going to be paying over asking price on pretty much anywhere you buy.

People talk shit about Aurora but down near the Cherry Creak State Park area it's pretty nice, and easy access to public transport to get into the city center, which is nice if you plan on going downtown and checking out the local breweries/distilleries.

I'd avoid Douglas county if you're looking at the suburbs; hey keep threatening to break away from the Denver-area healthcare system because COVID is a hoax so that's really all you need to know.

$1500 is about what you can expect but it largely depends on your taste. Glendale and Virginia Village seem to be growing and the prices there aren't ridiculous.

I was in Rino and my rent was creeping towards 2k so I moved to Wheat Ridge and I miss the city so I'm looking to move down to South Broadway at the end of my lease

Going to be visiting Denver for a few days with the fiancée and another couple at the end of July/beginning of August. We’ll be staying downtown so looking for recommendations for food/drinks/entertainment in that area or somewhere within a short Uber ride since we won’t have a car. Any and all advise is welcomed seeing as this is everyone’s first time there.

Not calling you out individually but people should give a little more detail about what they're looking for in a recommendation.

With that said check out Herb's for a good dive bar with fun live music and a dance floor.

Completely understand, it’s hard to give recommendations without a little more info. For food, I assume we’ll probably eat breakfast at the hotel a lot unless there is a local joint in the area that’s worth checking out. Most lunches we’ll probably be out exploring the breweries/local watering holes so if there are any places that have good bar food or a pizza/burger place within the vicinity of a good bar/brewery that’s be nice. Dinners will mostly be casual dining places, maybe an Italian spot one night and I’d like to have a nice steak one night, if that requires me to dress up a bit more, so be it. For drinks we like a good craft beer so hit me with your best breweries and I’m a big whiskey guy so a bar with a good selection would be fun to hit up. For entertainment we’re actually in Denver for the Isbell concert at red rocks so we prefer a more laid back atmosphere, maybe with a slightly older crowd, with good live music and maybe a patio to sit on. Also wouldn’t mind a rooftop bar with a nice view. The old in me also wouldn’t mind hitting up an interesting museum. Hope that helps a little in narrowing down some places.

Not a local but fiancée’s family lives in Denver so we’re around a lot. Our Mutual Friend is one of the better breweries downtown, also really close to Shake Shack (if you’re easy like me and like a burger while drinking). Also very close to Epic which is a good hang but they don’t blow me away. There’s a Great Divide right around there too. One of my favorites when we visit isn’t very convenient as it’s in Olde Town Arvada but it’s called New Image, their hazy stuff is top notch. You can also find cans of theirs around town, I always hit up Molly’s Spirits if you want to get stuff for the hotel

Haven’t visited Denver since January 2020 so some of this could have changed since then

Definitely don’t go to Herbs if you’re looking for low-key, older crowd

For a nicer steakhouse I like Quality Italian or Guard & Grace. For low-key Italian I like Shells & Sauce or Odyssey Italian Restaurant.

Linger has an amazing rooftop and solid food. Avanti F&B has a bunch of food options and then a nice rooftop/patio with some good beer options. Haven’t been to Happy Camper next door but seems extremely popular ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For beer+rooftop you can also check out Tap 14. Ditto on Our Mutual Friend - great spot. I’ve also always found Forest Room 5 unique and it has a cool backyard patio.

Think about making reservations to some of these places.

    Spuntino for Italian.

I think it is always worth grabbing a good breakfast burrito from a diner or Mexican joint, especially if you ever wake up a little hung over.

There are great breweries everywhere. A lot of them are bunched together in RiNo and South Broadway. I would also recommend a drive out to Golden to go to New Terrain. Awesome views with your beers.

cart driver is good pizza near the RiNo breweries.
Here is a recent best pizza bracket

Only advice for laid back bars is to just avoid LoDo. Not gonna tell you what bars to go to, as some simple googling of bars and looking for well reviewed ones will guide you well, just like anywhere else. Live music is a bit hard to come by these days. Maybe it will come back.

art museum just got a bunch of new impressionist paintings. Monet, Van Gogh, etc. people also seem to like the decorative art museum, not sure when that reopens

The current outdoor space is great. Can go to Williams and Graham for a drink first and really class it up. Or occidental after to get a little wild

If we’re doing food, I love The Fort just west of town. They do mostly wild game (bison, quail, elk) and have some pretty decent cocktails, including an old fashioned with gunpowder in it.

    Nice man. You'll love it.

Which school are you going to be at?

A general rule of thumb I recommend to people I've relocated in the past is if you work North of Colfax live north of Colfax and if you work South of it, live South of it.

The worst part of I25 traffic is from like 20th to 6th
