SIAP this is a few months old but someone made a Spotify playlist of every officially released live recording and ordered them chronologically. 346 hours.
I’ve gone into a Sugaree hole but I just keep listening to 5/22/77 over and over. Give me some of your favorites
Check out some early Brent era. 6.21.80, 9.6.80 (my all time favorite), 3.28.81, 10.17.83 all come to mind immediately.
I'm gonna assume this thread doubles as the official JRAD thread as well and suggest you guys listen to the Brooklyn 2019 show on Spotify. So good. I've had it on repeat for the past few weeks now.
I’m just here to say that 5877 was my ATM pin for like 20 years Pigpen era above all else Dire Wolf #1 Loser #2 I’m day drinking and listening to the December ‘78 Winterland run
Actually just bought this book today: Cornell '77: The Music, the Myth, and the Magnificence of the Grateful Dead's Concert at Barton Hall Looking forward to diving into it
It’s my understanding that the Barton Hall show gained momentum as classic due to the fact that it was the best sounding soundboard available for a long while. The band largely discounted it as a forgetful show and pointed to other spring ‘77 as examples of better performances during the time. I could be completely wrong and rehashing shit that has been talked about ad nauseum in the thread (I haven’t read any of it). With that being said, 5/8/77 will always hit different for me.
Nailed it. Bob Weir said as much to Rolling Stone. It was one of those Betty boards that got around. I think she's as much a hero in the legacy of the Dead as the band themselves because of the quality of sound she captured and helped preserve so many of these shows. I mean, a significant portion of the Dick's Picks are masters of her old DATs.
It’s a great soundboard, but it’s also a definitive show, with all time versions of Dancing, Scarlet > Fire, NFA, and Dew. You could pick any number of May 77 shows as “the best” and have a valid argument. I’m partial to 5.17 for obvious reasons.
Scarlet Fire at Cornell is when it clicked and I really “got” the Dead for the first time. Will forever be my favorite 25 minutes of music.
4/24 had some outstanding shows. Already listened to 78 and 72. Now sitting outside drinking beer and listening to 71.
Yea I had to listen to that one again today while shopping. 10/15/83 has been the choice for today. Feel Like a Stranger was crazy good to start the show.
Interesting that they're announcing this 6 weeks ahead of time. Wonder what other last minute tour/show dates will drop
I think it’s probably too late for any kind of a summer D&C tour, but hopefully Bobby is able to do some touring. Another summer without him is a summer wasted
I think Red Rocks is going all out to get dates filled on their calendar. They’ve got new shows popping up every day right now.
I was not really a fan in 1990. I had friends who were. I never saw Mydland live, that I appreciated. My second show was Richfield 1990, first show after he died. Very good He’s Gone. I’ve appreciated Brent lately.
The first song that caught me was Scarlett Begonias. I bought Mars Hotel. Then I heard the cover of Tangled Up in Blue on the Garcia Band double album. That was April-ish, 1992. To this day, the best scene at a concert I have seen was Buckeye Lake July 1. 1992. Last show of the tour. More camping available than anywhere.
Mayer posted some cryptic tour post yesterday. Did some redditing and found this rumor date list. Let’s hope it’s legit something like: Raleigh NC 08/16 Bristol VA 08/18 Citfield NY 08/20 Philadelphia 08/21 Syracuse NY 08/23 Darien Lake 08/25 Spac 08/27 Hershey Park 08/28 Burrgestown 08/30 Mansfield 09/1 09/2 Hartford 09/5 Blossom 09/7 Alpine 9/10 Cincinnati 09/11 Maryland heights 9/13 Knoblesville 09/15 Wrigley Field 09/17 & 09/18 West Palm Beach 10/06 Tampa 10/07 Jazz Fest 10/09 Charlotte 10/11 Atlanta 10/12 Dallas 10/14 Woodlands TX 10/15 Austin 10/17 Greenwood Village CO 10/20 - 10/23 Phoenix 10/25 San Diego 10/27 Hollywood Bowl 10/29 10/30 10/31
This year is looking like it's going to be fairly stressful from a personal budgeting and time management perspective. My calendar is filling up with the quickness
No jazzfest or Austin on that list, as were on fattmante 's mostly correct list. Jazzfest hasn't announced their lineup yet, so I wonder if that means D&C will be there.
Fuck yea a show in The Woodlands! That is like 15 minutes from my house. Already signed up for the pre sale for The Woodlands, Dallas and the Englewood dates
Those were such weird years, 81' doesn't even cross my mind because it was really bad "most" of the time.
Man fuck this live nation presale. It keeps telling me that I’m moving through the queue too fast so it suspends me for being a bot. Guess I’m going to have to pay a few hundred on the aftermarket
Haven’t seen that before, that’s really strange. About to get in line for the CO shows. Wish me luck.
