I've never used one. You into ultramarathons?

My gf uses one all the time even for "short" runs of 5+ miles. All I know is it's a Nathan brand pack.

    Duro/dura 6

you’ll find lighter options out there but I love the fit of Duro. I use it as a daypack now too if I don’t need much gear.

Certainly not that far, just marathon training. Once I go past like six or eight mile runs, I need some water and holding a water bottle sucks.
Thanks for the recs so far, everyone, I’ll check them out.

The idea of carrying a backpack full of water on my bare skin sounds horrible. I don’t mind carrying a bottle. With that said I’ve never tried the backpack. Considering getting that Osprey for gf as a gift though - her Nathan seems very old.

“Enjoyable” 10 @ 8:45/mi for me today, got out there late and it was 80 F or so but a nice breeze and it’s still nowhere near summer humidity. But it’s coming :ohdear:

Very happy these $35 Sketchers are up to 274 miles and still going. Maybe I can get 300 before retiring them. I have 3 more pairs still in their boxes waiting to be opened.

Easy 6 this afternoon. Heat index 94 F. I was trying to time it for when the rain showers came in but missed it completely and was out there during the hottest part of the day.

Hydrating after those kinds of runs is hard. I feel like no matter what I do I can't fully recover. Need lots of sleep tonight.

8 mile tempo this morning. Got up at 4:45, with the plan to start run at 5:30, but didn’t start running until 5:55.

Any of you can just roll out of bed and run? I feel lately like I need a minimum of 1 hour to wake up to run. Drink some coffee, read updates on phone, take or try to take a shit, get dressed, stretch/warmup, run. I feel like I should be able to get that to 45 mins or less but fuck.

I belong to a run group that used to do 530 three times a week ( before the pandemic) . You get used to it. The accountability of people waiting for you helps a ton too.

No snooze button, clothes out beforehand, coffee ready to be made, and a good pre stretch got me going.

Roll out of bed at alarm, shit or a fruitless session full of sound and fury signifying nothing, sit on the couch and check TMB between 5 and 30 minutes, out the door and brisk walk a block before running. I don't stretch before or after. Always time it so I have to rush my shower when I get home and be five minutes late to my desk wfh. Not looking forward to returning to the office and pushing my wake up time into the 5:00am range.

Just finished first marathon ever. 3800 feet of elevation gain and mile 18 was about 350 feet of gain over 1 mile which almost reduced me to tears. But I finished!

Ran my first actual race (half marathon) since the Chicago Marathon in 2019. Destroyed my PR by about two minutes and finished 1:33:47. So damn pleased. Cannot believe the improvement I’ve seen in my running since January of last year. Training for Minneapolis starts in a month!

Comfortable hats to run in that are both breathable and yet good at sun protection? Pale skin over here and I think I sunburned my scalp on the last long run.

Was about 1.5 miles in on a 4.5 mile run yesterday morning, was running at a pretty good clip for me, didn’t have my dog with me, so not restrained at all, weather was nice, kinda feeling it, etc

Wasn’t paying as much attention as I normally do, tripped on an uneven sidewalk and completely ate it. I basically got horizontal and landed in the road, then further rolled in the road, into what would have been oncoming traffic had this not been Saturday morning at around 9:00 am.

The road is a busy 4 lane road and I most assuredly would have been hit by a car traveling 45-50 mph had this occurred any other day and time. As it is, I got up, kind of dazed, brushed myself off, walked back to the sidewalk and waved off the people that had stopped their cars to see if i was ok.

Hurt like hell this morning. Would have been a truly shitty way to go out. Finished the run though.

I’m trying to get back into running. I’ve moved since I was last running. For my entire running life, I had lived near a trail and could just do out and backs with nice views for whatever distance I wanted. That’s not feasible anymore. To avoid traffic and just running in areas I don’t want to be in, I’m thinking about running up and down streets nearby. I can rack up a lot of miles in a small area. Does anyone else have experience doing this? I’m worried I’ll get bored doing this.

That’s my thoughts as well, dudes pushing a lot of weight around and football players aren’t know for running more than 2 miles in a game.

Long distance stamina isn’t something I think when I think football players. 240lbs is a lot to carry for that long. Only athletes who I think could by their regular workouts are boxers.

Despite never having run a 2 hour half marathon, I don’t think it should be difficult for most professional athletes. I imagine many golfers could do it. 9:09 / mile is a nice easy pace for an athlete with substantial fitness requirements. The hard part would be not going out too fast and just the grind of the last hour. But most of these guys fight through more intense pain that I’ve ever experienced on a 2 hour long run.

Thought this too but think endurance is a specific type of training and NBA is more about quick bursts.

What’s the average actual play time of an 60 minute NFL game? 10 minutes? I think they say the average NFL player runs maybe 1 or 2 miles a game in 10 second spurts.

I don’t think Tebow could do it, but I don’t think it would take him 3 hours. I’m certain most DBs, WRs, and RBs could run a 2 hour marathon if they didn’t go too hot out of the gate.

I’m sure some NFL WR’s and RB’s would be able too, mainly your taller ones who have a longer stride length. I’m skeptical a 6’3” 260 lb TE who played minor league baseball the last 4 years would be able to keep a 9 minute pace for 13.1 miles.
