Haven’t watched but that’s what the internet is saying. Kinda why I like bo though. Subversive. We have enough yuk-yuk comedy.
He's a talented guy and I certainly appreciate his worldview and whatever but I just can't handle that much music in my comedy. The format and I just don't get along.
relatable af. obv hilarious but poignant and as mentioned- super heavy. much more than a standup special. thought about it all day. white woman instagram stood out but i think my favorite is welcome to the internet. funny feeling too. i hope he’s ok
This is a masterpiece. Edit : like Jesus Christ this is good but it’s also some of the heaviest “comedy” I’ve ever seen. This is like 90 minutes of the Patton Oswalt bit talking about his wife dying.
Inside hit hard. Bo is so spot on, he is genuinely better off the stage (mental health wise), but greedy people like me always pull him back for a laugh. The 2nd half of Make Happy and now Inside makes me feel so conflicted. We have him “surrounded” forcing him to perform. Either that, or is his the best troll of all time? Spoiler: “End of Inside spoiler” him building up that small grin before the screen went to black makes me think that he is just fucking with us and that he really feels in a better place to perform now also, damn he did an amazing job with the lighting. for the first viewing, I was rolling at: Spoiler twitch parody, reviewing his review, white women Instagram
Burnham a few years ago went on the h3 podcast and opened up about himself having crippling anxiety and starting to have panic attacks before, during, and after public shows. I hope he continues to do what he is doing. It won't change a thing with how people consume media these days.
Watching Inside. Haven’t see a show this melancholy since the episode of Lassie where he rescues Timmy after he fell down a well in Mr. Johansson’s cantaloupe patch.
Just finished inside. Fucking brilliant, IMO. Been a big burnham fan since his early YouTube days. Loved this.
Just finished it. Thought it was incredible. He's obviously brilliant but we've known that forever. It was vulnerable, dark, clever, etc. I could go on but I'll keep it short since some haven't seen it yet.
Bo Burnham has never been my cup of tea, but I’m going to have to check this out because Michael Schur was effusive in his praise. Also, it seems like Burnham is getting a lot of praise for the technical aspects of this, without anybody giving a nod to Maria Bamford’s “Special Special Special,” which she did in her house in 2012 with only her parents as the audience. It’s amazing.
will check that out. As a “content creator” myself, I was blown away by the solo production of inside and the lighting.
Problematic fucking slaps, as the youths say. That Funny Feeling is honestly one of the better songs I’ve heard lately.
You have to watch the special for the whole effect obviously...but now that I've seen it twice I'll just listen to the Spotify album probably. The songs are fantastic and I don't need the interludes. There's so many good songs
Inside was a heavy pill that I had to watch over like three sessions. I can't get Welcome to the Internet out of my brain.
Has anyone watched Beth Stelling’s special? I just discivered her via YouTube suggesting some vids and she seems pretty great. Excited to dive deeper, but frankly Inside is occupying my content intake for the time being.
Beyond the songs (Welcome to the Internet was just amazing) he socko bit was pretty incredible, as well as his reaction video to his reaction video. He had a line in it saying “self-awareness doesn’t absolve you of anything,” that stuck with me. Good comedians finding the funny parts of their profound misery is such a fascinating thing.
There will be a bunch of comedians that try to use Covid as a theme, but Inside is what everyone will remember as the Covid/2020 Comedy performance. Stand up can move on from the Pandemic after that. People will watch that for decades.
Yes Inside was a masterpiece. I was thinking that while I was still watching it for the first time, that I was actively watching something we’d be discussing for years
I respect the choice and like the mood of the original but pitching up his voice makes it less megalomaniacal Kanye (Can’t Handle This from Make Happy) and more vulnerable Bo.
“You say the oceans rising, like I give a shit You say the whole worlds ending; honey it already did You’re never going to slow it; heaven knows you tried, Got it, good, now get inside” has been living rent free in my head for a while now
Got tickets for Nate Bargatze wife informed me we have a wedding out of state the next day said I could miss with wedding maybe
