    Got a link?

Genuinely interested. We're planning to build a house in the next few years and was seriously considering their solar roof.

The information about the truck is pretty good, but his explanation of a gas vs electric motor was a little off. A truck doesn’t have peak torque at 5000 rpm, and an electric motor doesn’t maintain torque for that long in anything close to a flat line if you’re comparing one redline run to another.

For the tech gadget nerd audience the explanation likely did a good enough job to say “it hauls ass dude”

If you order a Rivian now, you probably won’t get it for a couple years. By that time, it will be delivered with motors built in the US.

I slotted a reservation for the F150 on day two, realistically how soon can I expect before I could expect my truck? Anyone with any ideas?

From what I understand this was an attempt to be more accurate with estimates.
Always blows my mind how much it cost to pay an electrician to do anything. I know everyone’s not handy but learning to wire stuff up can save some massive money and it’s really not that hard. I did my 14-50 outlet myself and cost me like $100 in material.

I mean electricity is deadly and you're paying for their knowledge and expertise, not so much materials. Did you buy the latest version of the National Electric Code to make sure everything you did is up to code, or just wing it? Did you get a permit? Did you get your work inspected?

Especially installing a circuit that can carry 6x the amount of energy of a typical home circuit.

Well sure and messing with a 50 amp breaker is definitely on the higher end, buts it’s still not overly complicated. Make sure you have the correct breaker, correct wire size, and correct outlet. Wiring those up really is simple. I’m probably being to cavalier about it all but I bet anyone that is decently handy can watch a couple YouTube videos and be able to do it.

It’s super easy. I’m worried about accidentally touching something that hasn’t been killed or making a dumb mistake that will catch the house on fire.

Oh I get it, shit can be deadly. I will say this though, I take my time and make damn sure I’m over doing anything electrical I mess with. Sometimes the pros are over confident in what they’re doing. Shit, couple months ago went to turn on my daughters sound machine and nothing. Started looking into it and found out almost all my outlets upstairs didn’t have power. Traced it back to my bedroom where I found a completely charred box from a loose connection that had been arcing. Almost burnt my house down, dude just throw a wire nut on and trusted it. Me, I twist the hell out of the wires, twist the hell out of that wire nut, and then throw electrical tape on. Complete overkill but at least I know it’s a good connection.

A buddy of mine works at the Ford dealership in town. I talked to him Sunday and he said to not expect to get the vehicle until 2023. He said with how slowly vehicles are coming in due to the microchip shortage that he's going to be out of any new vehicles to sell by the end of June. He said he has no idea when the next time he's going to get any regular F-150s so he'd expect there to be a delay with the Lightnings too.

I find it hard to believe Ford put a spring timeframe on it publicly without some indication that the supply chain is going to be getting better. They’re cranking out Mach-Es in Mexico.

Im hoping for that but I’ve read they are capping production at 40k-80k next year so not sure where I am in the que but sounds like 2023 to me.

It's also a 50A breaker at twice the voltage.

You're right it's not a terribly complicated task at its baseline. It's just a giant pet peeve of mine when people have a cavalier approach to messing with electricity.

This is already a thing by a few VCs. They’ll install the EV charger on your property, but they can charge whatever rates they want. The two I talked to were about .38/kWh. So about 3x current power rates. They said they have data that can tell them where the best place to install chargers are and that they’re looking to be making money in about 10 years. But tons of people are pouring money into these types of projects.

I’m contemplating holding off on our Tesla now. All we’d lose is $100 and if I can wait 6 months I’ll get $7,500 off. May even go with a diff EV if I get $12,500

only thing I would caution is they have been going up $1000 a month (usually 2 $500 increases) for the 3 and Y, and my fear is by the time the tax credit comes (if it ever does) it will have eaten most of it up

that plus the used car market is crazy so I didn't want to lose that, so the combo of those 2 is kind of like a tax credit

I have two vehicles with neither north of 15mpg. I want an electric bronco, wrangler, or defender. Make something like that electric and I’m in. No offense to the tesla guys here but I wouldn’t drive one if it was free. They’re plain and boring as it gets. I don’t care how fast it is. Electrics so far are boring as all hell. There’s a tesla and a volt in my building and we have free charging in the garage…wouldn’t drive either even with that perk

If they release an electric bronco or wrangler then I am buying one. So far the only electric car in production that I really like is the Porsche Taycan. The two Tesla that are called suvs are ugly and look more like VW beetles than a suv. If I had money for an S then I would just buy a Taycan.

Insurance depends on state. In Texas, you have to get the VIN before Submitting proof of insurance to Tesla. Some states you can just upload your current policy and it’s fine.

I got my VIN Friday night for a Model 3 white/white, ordered 4/17, but no option yet to make final payment or schedule delivery. They told me it hasn’t left the factory yet is why.

interior and exterior. I dislike the exterior of all teslas. Have ridden in a 3 and sat in an X. Just a bland interior. The white is a little better but there’s an upcharge for no reason. They’re incredible machines but anything that costs that much I have to like the look of. Soon we’ll have the f150, more euros, and more rugged suv electrics and I’ll convert. Still not going to get rid of the 392 but I’ll daily whatever electric vehicle I get into
