Decided to come up to Traverse City without checking hotel prices ahead of time. Oof But found a reasonable motel with a very sweet lady at the front desk. She told me I can smoke weed in the room but just to leave the door open when doing so Love this state man. What a gorgeous drive up here too
Front Street is awesome. Seems like such a versatile region. Great for family vacations with young kids, great for bachelorette parties or great for people just looking to get fucked up and mess around on the lake. Watched the sun set at Clinch Park and it was nice to be among people again. Getting up early and heading to Sleeping Bear Dunes
The scenic drive is great. Dune climb is fun to do at least once or maybe 10x if you're trying to keep up with the kids. Views are nice everywhere so it's hard to go wrong but Pyramid Point and Alligator Hill are two of my favorite trails. Pyramid Point is a quick one and has the prettiest view of Lake Michigan imo.
Pyramid Point looks really cool. Will head up there early, maybe come back to Traverse City and grab breakfast food and then head west to the dunes The food truck game in Traverse City is really solid
Let me know what you'd recommend for breakfast spots Was really foggy this morning so waited a bit before getting up to Pyramid Point. That was spectacular. Would be an amazing place to eat shrooms. The road from Maple City to the trailhead got pretty gnarly. Fun driving Didn't go to the dunes but will try to map out a few more places to hit up a few weeks from now and check them out Summer camp in Northern Michigan would have been really sweet
Planning on spending Friday and Saturday in Detroit Best pizza? Best southern/comfort food? Anything you'd suggest instead? I like just about anything
I am a fan of Grandma Bob’s pizza, but others might have other opinions. My favorite place to eat in Detroit is the Golden Fleece. It’s Greek food.
The the quintessential Detroit dining experiences would probably be to do a Lafayette vs American Coney comparison and hitting up the original Detroit-style pizza place at Buddy’s.
Pizza - Loui's in Hazel Park. Comfort Food - Savannah Blue if you want a sit-down in the downtown area. Bert's if you want to check out the eastern market and maybe sing/see some great karaoke (it they're doing it now, not sure). Bakers keyboard lounge is another option. There are tons of directions you could go here depending on how far out into the neighborhoods you're willing to go. Asian Corned Beef, basically Rueben egg rolls, are an awesome oft overlooked (until recently) regional specialty. Yemeni, Bangladeshi, Polish, and other cuisine in Hamtramck might be worth checking out. Get coneys as a late night snack, not a daytime meal, and don't you dare put ketchup on them.
Sweetwater wings are the classic Eastern Market Brewing, Batch for good beer. Griot Music Lounge is the GOAT for music - the owner Jonathan has an unparalleled record collection Supino's for pizza, even though it's not Detroit style. Louis, Buddys for detroit style classic, Grandma Bob's is the new place in town. Avalon for coffee/pastries
Howe's Bayou in Ferndale is a solid place with a special place in my heart. Best pizza has already been said for the most part. Second Loui's/Buddy's/Shields for that Detroit Style pie.
If you want a great burger hit up Bouzoukis. It was voted best burger in Detroit, right by Greektown. nevermind, looks like it’s closed :(
Tons of great bars there, too, and I believe now also dispensaries. Painted lady, Kelly's, outer limits is newer but cool, bumbos, etc. https://www.hamtramckstories.org/bar-culture.html
Sure was. Although the only real bad spots I ran into were due to an accident. But every major holiday weekend over the summer is like that. And even some random Fridays.
I fondly remember Friday afternoons stacked up on US-23 north from 96 to Standish. Well, not that fondly.
We got out of town around 130 pm on Friday and it was sticky in places up 75, but not bad. Just trying to go west from Detroit out to western Oakland County on summer Fridays is a chore. Going up north you either leave early or wait until 9 pm. Same thing coming home.
I learned of Jet's Pizza somewhere on TMB, then discovered there is one like 2 miles from my house. Their Italian Hero pizza is delicious. I only recently learned that Detroit-style pizza is a thing.
Dispo in Bay City has had a medical deal for 5 packs of 100 MG Fresh Coast gummies for $25 for like the past 2 weeks now. Wish I could just buy out their entire supply
