I was up way too early this morning and bored, so entertain me for a minute in this hypothetical. If I’m calculating right, we could free up $75-$80m with goran, iggy, ariza, belly and Dipo gone. I love dragon and the organization does but he needs to take a team friendly deal next year if he’s staying. we can resign Duncan, maybe for $18m instead of $20... $16m would be great. Then I would love to snag Collins and Lowry if that’s doable. Collins next to Bam would be amazing. But he’s a RFA and I imagine ATL would match... But mainly I just want us to tell Goran to take less or bye. Iggy retires I bet. Not sure what moves we make but I like the idea of Collins, resign Duncan and get a guard...doesn’t need to be a Lowry
Goran got 2 years on his contract last summer, I think. He earned that money and I doubt he's restructuring because we won't be looking to sign him long-term. Lowry is 35 years old and Butler showed some signs of aging this season. Bam also still has some steps to take. We're not in the win-now window it looked like last season and I have no interest in giving Lowry a bunch of money for 2 seasons of a 2nd round exits.
I have no interest in giving Lowry the $30m he wants. Goran got 2 years but next season is a club option. So is Iggy's deal. Goran earned it but we can't continue keeping the 35/36 yr olds around when they clearly showed signs of aging. I think Goran can take a team friendly deal. I don't know what moves we're going to make besides most likely resigning Duncan, but we need to free up that money and we CAN be in win-now mode with Jimmy's last two seasons. We get a full offseason with some of these kids too. KZ, Precious, Strus, Herro, Duncan.. it will help everyone. Nunn most likely goes elsewhere.
we still have $50-$60m to spend resigning Duncan and find another addition. The organization loves Goran and I'm not trying to boot him, but take a team friendly deal sir.
There is no way the team is picking up a $19.5 million option on Goran at 35+ years old Would love to resign him at like half that.
No idea what we will do but if history has taught us anything it’s that pat will be making some drastic moves, that are much needed
Im with you time to stop the win now shit we've been doing since Bron left and just try and build something. we don't have to worry about not having a lottery pick for the next 4 years (iirc thats when the the Jimmy pick is unprotected). I'd love to say what happened this year was fatigue and Jimmy can muster up what he did last year with a full offseason, but idk. Unless Jimmy can talk Lowry into taking a two year deal with an option that allows both of them to bounce next off season if shit don't work out I don't want him. We have some young pieces that have shown flashes time to see what they can do with a full complement of minutes and no old heads taking their shots and minutes away. That also includes Bam. Time to start transitioning him to be the head guy and not the setup man. If we could try and hand the keys to JRich and Winslow, we can do the same for Bam and see if he actually can be an alpha.
idk but it seems like having the racist in the middle helped Bam alot last year and then we fell to in love with the playing small lineup from the bubble
agreed, think in a perfect world we have Bam at the 5 and precious emerges at the 4 but a dedman-like at the 5 and Bam at the 4 may be our best chance against teams that have top big men
I think a Bam who can be consistent with his mid range to 3pt shot is much more important than whether he plays the 4 or 5.
Maybe I’m just reacting to use getting absolutely crushed on the boards in the last years finals and this series vs the bucks but if Bam struggled mightily vs brook Lopez how can we expect him to do vs Embiid, AD etc
Bjelica was supposed to be someone who might step into this role, right? Or was he ultimately just filler?
idk why i ended up in the heat thread but since i’m here, lopez is a ~top 25 defender in the league i wouldn’t take too much from that
No, he was an individual deal. He was supposed to step in and be a better version of Kelly O. That was a complete flop.
this and saying Herro is a core player to keep his price tag high seems interesting... unless Riley does actually stay stubborn and refuse to trade him. I can understand a sophomore slump and him being off. full offseason will do a lot.
for the right player I don’t doubt Riley would trade anybody not named bam or Jimmy after the way this season unfolded
Spoiler Miami Heat Offseason focus The direction with cap space: own free agents vs. creating up to $22 million Stay over the cap and explore sign-and-trade options? The restricted free agency of Duncan Robinson and Kendrick Nunn Do they entertain extension talks with Jimmy Butler (could be a free agent in 2022)? Draft assets Future: Miami owes OKC a 2023 top-14 protected first. The pick has top-14 protection in 2024 and 2025 and is unprotected in 2026. The Heat are allowed to trade a first-round pick that conveys two years after the pick to OKC is conveyed. Cash: $5.6 million (to send) | $5.6 million (to receive) Cap space breakdown The Heat are in one of those unique positions where they can run back the same group (and explore trade options) from this past season or wipe the slate clean except for Herro, Butler, Adebayo, Achiuwa and their restricted free agents, Robinson and Nunn. Miami could leave the $4.7M free agent holds of Robinson and Nunn and create up to $21M in room, but at the cost of declining the team options of Goran Dragic and Andre Iguodala, and letting Victor Oladipo walk in free agency. The Heat could create an additional $5.2M in room if the cap holds of Nunn and Robinson are reduced to $2.1M. The $19.4 million Goran Dragic, $15.0 million Andre Iguodala and $1.5 million Omer Yurtseven team options have to be exercised by Aug. 1. The poison pill restriction of Bam Adebayo will get lifted on Aug. 3. Jimmy Butler has a 15% trade bonus and Andre Iguodala has a 7.5% trade bonus (if his team option is exercised). Yeah leave a team that’s home, gives him everything he wants, and is two PG fts away from being on the cusp of the NBA Finals without him for Miami. SAS needs to stop the Miami agenda bs
I don't blame them here, how many more years does Lowry possibly have? He's 35, and he's had problems with injuries for three straight years now.
