I don’t think you need to deny his talent or Mercedes’ supremacy to also acknowledge that he’s also benefited from complete luck over the years
He should get credit for consistently putting himself in positions to get “lucky” for years though. You don’t get blindly lucky to win 98 times
As a long time F1 fan, 2 months, that was an amazing race. Can barely remember watching a F1 race with that much drama in my lifetime.
Why was it that Sergio was going to have to retire the car right there at the end? That’s nuts. edit: hydraulic pressure issue then, according to Horner
Damn what a great race. Gutted for Max but the racing gods evened things out a bit by causing Hamilton to have a brain fart. The coverage is just so great. The team radio has always been awesome and now the last couple races they give us the radio between the teams and the FIA. They're just light years ahead of other leagues in giving fans access. Imagine the NFL letting fans listen in on whatever conversations are had between coaches and refs and then allow you to hear the conversations between the refs and New York when they're reviewing a call. Lol the NFL would be so worried about their image, they'd never even dream of it.
I feel like my weekend is ruined because I got spoiled literally right before I was getting ready to start the race. Probably would’ve lost my mind watching all of that happen live.
My son spoiled it for me because he didn’t realize I was watching it taped. Still pretty dramatic. Sucks for Verstappen.
they’ve come a long way. I remember when I was a teenager, Bernie used to only give an in car camera to one car. That car crashed, and you were out of luck.
That was so much fun. I really wanted Checo to pull all the way up to the podium in the safety car to get dropped off.
Those Pirelli blowups took a solid race and made it great. I do feel bad for Lance and especially Max. On the ESPN feed they discussed that Pirelli said it was a bit of debris that caused Lance tire fail and I found it interesting how the announcers called that out as being a super quick analysis and cast doubt on it. Before Max tire went off they showed a graphic showing the life left in the tires for Checo and Lewis and Checo’s were sitting at 10% that to me seems to indicate the teams knew they were playing with fire. Even though Pirelli were claiming you could do the entire race in a single set of hards. Either way very fun race. Knew that straight was going to kill Charles and the Ferrari. Just not enough pace in that engine. Happy for Seb. Also Checo could’ve easily been race winner from skill alone if it wasn’t for a bad pit that cost him the lead.
That was wild as hell. What a finish. I was so pissed about the championship races after that max crash but it ended up a complete wash. Just insane
Just finished watching, fantastic stuff. I was so pissed when Verstappen went out but Hamilton going out on the restart made everything better
Pirelli is dodging responsibility by saying debris on the track was the cause of Stroll and Verstappen’s tire failures. Also, the reason for Hamilton’s lock up is fascinating. Literally accidentally hit a wrong button on his steering wheel causing his brakes to overheat and throwing the brake balance all out of wack.
VAMOS CHECOOOO! The 1-2 finish and an absolute trouncing of Mercedes would’ve been nice, but I’ll gladly take this.
Another F1 newbie here thanks to DTS. What’s the context of this tweet? Who are the Americans he is referring to? Is he taking issue with the last couple of laps under green instead of just finishing under a safety car?
We’ll I guess I’m just uncultured because I thought those last two laps were great. I would’ve been disappointed if they just finished it under caution. who specifically are the Americans he’s referring to? People in the FIA?
Seemed like a one time thing with the tires? Don’t think they would’ve done that if Horner didn’t tell them about his tires and seeing no warning in their data
He was nursing a hydraulic issue that kept him from warming his tires up pre start and maybe even compromised his clutch. That’s the reason he didn’t do a victory lap.
