Anything directly off Federal is a no go. Especially near Colfax

Hard disagree. I think that’s a great spot. Sure federal traffic may get annoying, but he is perfectly near highlands, lohi, sloans lake, Jefferson park, sheridan, and south federal’s amazing Vietnamese food and taco trucks

I don't know who to believe

It looks like that area is highly ranked on most neighborhood ranking sites, less crime than the average

I'm just going to fucking drive here and look at places

Yeah I drive by there often. Some rough complex’s in that specific area. Plus game day traffic would be awful.

No, I don’t get freaked out by crime maps, next door posts, or any of that shit. I fucking live right there.

cities have crime sometimes. Shock. That isn’t a bad area. That sloans lake neighborhood is nice as fuck

Also, that map shows crime located on colfax. Of course shit happens on colfax. That’s colfax. Look how nice his surrounding area would be.

according to that map, I live in a third world country ridden with crime. When in actuality I live near an awesome array of restaurants, bars, breweries, coffee shops, dispensaries, and outdoor stores

This is a good spot. You’ll be able to see fireworks on the roof 4th of July and whenever else they pop off in that area.

Between 70 and 6 west of 25 will make give you a few options to evade traffic too depending on the direction you’re going.

Cool. We also have a bunch of people who live near there, which is what actually matters. you know, since he wants to know what it is actually like to live in a certain part of town.
I haven’t heard that, but that seems wild. Love the Korean food in Aurora. Certainly not scary.

I was told by many (and shown crime maps) about living in Whittier in 2016. It was such a great neighborhood. Makes me laugh at all the dumb (likely racist) warnings I got.

If you go north on Havana it can be a little bit run down but it's not terrible.

There was multiple areas in Columbus that were significantly worse.

Emma a buddy just signed a lease on a 1br/1ba place in Highlands/LoHi for $950/month. They’re out there. He found it after about a month looking at public listings and then happened to stumble across this place via a friend’s instagram story (he has lived there for 5+ years). If you know folks there (or ITT), maybe ask them to keep an eye out for “for rent” signs.

When I moved to Denver, I had trouble sorting through the plethora of online listings. Went to visit the same buddy (as above) one weekend, and in an Uber leaving the bar to go to a house party I met a friend of a friend who ended up renting me a spot. He’s now a close friend and was even a groomsman in my wedding. May be worth taking a weekend trip to go on a scouting mission - never know what will happen.

Can’t see all the random houses with for rent signs unless you come here to visit. I’d really enjoy a lohi / highlands unit in a house on one of the many beautiful streets.

Yo I'm just going to rent a car and drive down for a couple days to look for places not listed. Last time I rented was way up in Canada years ago. Don't remember if places go by days rented or milage. But from what you guys have stated, that would make the most sense.

I went to the one down south off Dry Creek by IKEA at 4pm on Friday and went into the dining room and walked right up to the counter and ordered it to go.

The drive thru was probably a 15 minute wait.

1993. The city has exploded since then. That was the year I moved here after finishing grad school. It's like mini-LA here now.

Due to make a few more in Denver than what I make in Wisconsin, which is good all things considered.

Costs are pretty crazy, but this is a really cool city. I came from the Midwest like you (Michigan native). The sun, the city, the outdoors life - this town was a great place to be young and it's still amazing. The weather here destroys the upper Midwest - sunny and dry air is so much better. The cost situation now is baffling to me though - my first house near Wash Park cost me $99K in '94. You can always move back to a place like Wisconsin though, you can only be young in Denver once. Education is like healthcare (my field), we can live anywhere.

I'm on the opposite side now, my wife and I are now looking at where we're going to retire somewhere else in Colorado (I'm 54). Now that I'm old and crabby, I don't want to sit in traffic before I get somewhere to ride my mountain bike or ski. Looking at Durango, Ridgway, Eagle, etc. in W. Colorado. Living and working here was incredible though, one of my best life choices. Good luck with it.

Moved here in 2011 from Alabama for a teaching program (2 year commitment). Wish I would’ve bought a condo or house back then, but I wasn’t sure how long I’d be here.

Ended up teaching for 6 years before going to a code school in town to get into software, and my partner and I bought our first house in March 2020 (Ruby Hill).

If only we had known we’d be here a decade later and bought something earlier. Eh, shit happens. Love this city, access to the outdoors, no humidity, and less religious bullshit.
