Also, wasn’t Chad Simmons the dude who posted over here but left after realizing starting a foot fetish thread was a bad idea? I swear that happened.
It is going to bother me until someone confirms this was the case. Someone who worked for Scout definitely came over here when this place started and asked if there was a foot fetish thread. Like a day went by and they realized ehhh maybe this was not a good idea and deleted their account. If this didn’t happen I won’t ever trust my memory again.
I think it’s safe to assume one of our Rivals folks that abruptly left last week (Nikki Chavanelle) will be joining that site.
It was someone who covered the South. It’s also possible I am just thinking of pearl but I feel like it was a Scout guy.
Jake Reuse is going over there to cover UGA from the Rivals site. No idea why you'd bring him in. So naturally Rivals hired two current subs to cover recruiting in his absence.
But here is what Ivan Maisel says: “Our goal at On3 is to be the college sports destination for the fans who love not just the games but the spectacle. That may be redundant, now that I think about it, but we intend to cover college sports from the end of the eighth grade to the minute that Roger Goodell (or Adam Silver) walks to the lectern to begin the draft. We will try to capture the wonder of college sports, both the wonderment (How did that player do that?) and the wonder aloud (Why did that coach do that?). On3 is new, but the people behind it are not. CEO Shannon Terry and his team created Rivals.com. They created 247sports.com. Like those sites, On3 will focus on recruiting. We intend to mine data to bring insight to recruiting, to define and explain the creation of student-athlete name, image and likeness rights, and, of course, to better explain the play on the field, too. There will be a difference in On3 from those sites – a greater focus on writing. We want On3 to be the voice trusted by fans from College Park to College Station, from Boulder to Rocky Top. The staff we are assembling will bring a considerable amount of talent and experience to our readers, all with the mission to become synonymous with national college sports.”
b/c he'll make millions, sell it in 5 years, dip and do it all over again. I'm not sure there is enough support for 3 sites, but I'd be doing fucking nothing if I was Shannon. Some people just want to work. I don't get it
It would be interesting if they got into advance stats and breaking down games. The writing/articles and interviews of kids are fucking worthless. I'm not sure why anyone reads them.
Could’ve just said “we’re going to try to be the Athletic for recruiting.” They’re going about this all wrong. You know what would be a legitimately amazing recruiting site? One that strictly adhered to journalistic integrity. I.e. posted every bit of news learned at the moment it is discovered. Ruining kids’ moments, reporting schools’ violations, writing stories about how coaches and players hate each other, etc. Full on 100% truth as soon as known. I’d pay for that.
I think he's aiming for some big dogs to sell to this time. He already made millions from yahoo and cbs...maybe now he's aiming into pipedream territory with somebody like Google, Amazon, or Disney
We’re going to explore the right of publicity but we’re also going to make ad revenue off of highlights and not compensate those players
I want a feature that lists each players Twitter name on their player card so it’s easier for me to tweet at them
Starting a new one while Rivals and 247 still have some of the worst interfaces of any sites on the net
