pperc was super generous and sent me a bottle of 4R 2020 limited edition when my father passed and sent 6 sample bottles. I have to post my notes on here to get the key. I use the word "notes" loosely because I suck at this. Best I could do is make a few observations and relate it to something I've had before. A- nice flavor, a bitter finish. Reminds me of WFE B- pretty tasty, can't place the finish C- light color, super sweet. Tastes like a white wine almost. Fruity D- very full flavor. Closest thing I've had that I can compare to is ECBP E- fucking tasty. Idk F- besides C, first one my shitty nose can pick up. Very sweet, not like anything I've had before. Pretty tasty I think C is the only one that I'm not a fan of. Everything else is really good, and I'm told definitely not legent. I'm in a hotel for work right now so I had to finish C to have another cup for F
Local place told me you will never see a BT BP because that is basically a resource for Stagg Jr. On another note, I know people say theyve had some BT SPs that are fantastic but I have never had one of 10ish or so
Yeah it was disputed but my local guy who was just at heaven hill for their Elijah Craig picks came back with the info so I don’t know not sure I’ve heard anyone prefer larceny to Gregg
No worries. 1) EC and Larceny aren't the same mashbill and 2) My brother in law is in charge of setting pricing for heaven hill products and actually just gave me the heads up that Larceny is going up 2 and LBP is going up 10 so it's definitely not going anywhere. LBP got popular so fast that this price increase is the last resort before just allocating it. Not saying this in a dickish way, just happen to know the scoop on the happenings at Heaven Hill.
I don’t think it was meant as larceny was getting rebottled as EC but that they weren’t going to keep filling barrels with it fwiw
Hey so we did the tasting last night, and were a bit underwhelmed. I am circling back with the owner to see if we could try something else or change the terms on what we would get (proof)/price. Rest assured none of us wants to start a pick and not believe in it or be up front about what we were doing, so stay tuned.
I actually got to taste a BT pick at barrel proof one time from a store pick sample, and the owner told me the exact same thing. I said it's a shame you can't bottle it at this proof and he basically said he heard they can't bc that already exists under one of their other labels
I wonder if the store guy is confusing Larceny and Pikesville. What I’ve read (and this could be wrong too) is that HH will be discontinuing Pikesville in the not too distant future and using those barrels for EC Rye and potentially an ECBP Rye.
This is dated by now, but it’s a good baseline. As best I understand, it’s about what brands share the same distillate but are a product of different areas of different rickhouses which have different conditions for aging (and are bottled at different proof.)
My wife mocked the shit out of me. I was pretty fucked up, slurring, and saying silly things. I did an inventory in the morning and I think I had 8 drinks.
I know we brought it up last night and again this morning, but the fact that he was drinking a Sonic milkshake in between whiskey sips and what that actually would be like, didn't even dawn on me until this moment.
oh wait, you did drink it still while you were also drinking GTS and the Weller FP. I didn't misunderstand, LOL.
I defer to someone else, but in the highest proof at full proof I know we got red fruits, oak, pepper, and an astringent type finish.
I honestly can't answer that. The best thing I can say is it didn't taste all too different from the Cask Strength annual release I have from 2019, which I always thought was better. I chatted with the store owner and we are probably going to pass UNLESS he can swing it at full proof and for a reasonable price ($80-85 at Full proof), but we are heavily leaning towards alternatives at this point...Four Roses is still an option and we asked him to look at Russel's Reserve as well now.
2 of the 3 samples were terrible. The 3rd and highest proof noted above was OK at barrel proof but we fear it’ll be $100+ a bottle and absolutely not worth that much. It wasn’t something any of us loved. It was tolerable vs the first two barrels. We all agreed to pass on it (unless we could get it at barrel proof which is unlikely and at a good price point even more unlikely).
If anyone’s interested in trying what we tasted last night I still have a small amount of each sample left that I don’t mind passing onto someone else ITT
