Time's running out on that, isn't it? I believe summer classes begin next week. I think it was the II podcast that pointed that out.
I distinctly remember someone in this thread saying Brunelle's floor was Finke and I remember thinking lol no that is probably his ceiling.
ND was trying to get him as PWO IIRC then Michigan offered him and ND basically had to offer him at that point because the rest of the WR board was so bad
what's crazy is they chose to pass on Roman Wilson (Hawaiian kid with top notch measurables who ended up going to Mich) for Brunelle...it didn't make sense then and it definitely doesn't make sense now
It is annoying. That spot on the staff is perfectly suited for us to wildly over pay for the best young recruiter available. If we had someone in that spot who could mirror Freeman's approach to recruiting it might actually be feasible that we could close the talent gap. But alas.
Loy posted this today in one of his articles: Spoiler Lastly, I’m removing Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith four-star safety Sherrod Covil from the list of Top Targets. While this may surprise some fans, I’m told Notre Dame feels confident that it will land the top of the board targets at the safety position and didn’t want to drag out this recruitment or waste Covil’s time on an official visit when he could be at another program that weekend instead. The decision was made out of respect toward the young man, who the staff developed a great relationship with throughout the process. As it stands now, keep an eye on Clemson, Miami and Penn State. it has always seemed like ND was not quite as high on Covil as the ND fans were. I think ND always worried Covil was more LB than safety. Loy posted this in the same thread. Obviously, if they land that class, it's a home run at almost all the positions. Devin Moore and Jayden Bellamy are crossover guys that can play both — both are higher on the board than Covil. Xavier Nwankpa, Kevin Winston, Jake Pope all have been higher on the board than Covil. In a perfect world, Notre Dame lands: CB Jaden Mickey CB Benjamin Morrison DB Devin Moore SAF Xavier Nwankpa SAF Kevin Winston
this is absolutely hilarious - Brian Perroni (247 National guy focusing on the South/Southwest region) posted this today on the Mich 247 site Last week, Steve Lorenz posted that Anthony Lucas was going to set up official visits to Michigan and Oregon. I had passed along that information to him. So, this is completely my fault in communication, but there will not be a Michigan visit. The kid had texted me that he was setting them up to Oregon and UM. I made the assumption that was Michigan. But he texted me this morning that he was still in the process of setting them up at Oregon and Miami. He spelled the second school out this time. So that is what he meant by UM. I apologize for the error.
and to add on to that, he later posted in the same thread the following: He will still have one to use but I don't think he plans to. And, to be honest, I would not be surprised if he doesn't even take the Oregon or Miami trips. I think it will come down to A&M and Notre Dame. I really really like this Brian guy
I'm certainly part of the problem but this definitely illustrates how hilarious it is that so much time and energy is spent reacting to "news" that stems from the text messages of a 16 year old kid.
Anyone supposed to pop this weekend? I'm assuming a Lucas commit would be the big prize but probably a shock?
should close it out this weekend but he might not announce till later in the month. One site said June 18th because it's his dad's bday
he thinks we get 4 commits from this weekend's group...i'm guessing silent and/or public since some of those guys want to announce on their own time
Aren't we supposed to know about the Tulsa guy soon? If we get the Hawaii kid, does that mean Cheeks or Snead or the Nebraska guy are definitely out?
Tulsa guy is supposed to notify ND today according to Loy it's pretty much understood that ND is landing Sneed and Junior, that's why they have stopped recruiting Cheeks and Devon jackson
so this kid and Peyton Bowen drove all the way up from Dallas to ND for a 2 day visit - both guys are essentially top 100 players from a big time HS (Denton Ryan)...Loy has hinted that he thinks ND led for Peyton Bowen before the visit, but that last line from Ryan's interview makes it sound like he committed??? Spoiler Denton (Texas) Guyer four-star defensive back Ryan Yaites, a Top100 prospect from the class of 2023 according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, made his way to Notre Dame earlier this week. The 6-1, 175-pounder hopped in the car and left for home, as his multi-day visit to South Bend wrapped up on Wednesday. So, how did things go? He spoke with Irish Illustrated about the trip, his time with the coaching staff, and what Notre Dame did that impressed him while on campus. SLIDE 1 of 8 ON HIS FIRST TRIP TO NOTRE DAME "It was really great for my first time being out there. The coaches were really open. They all talked to me. They welcomed me into the Notre Dame family. I just think, personally, it was a great experience because with the far drive we took there, it was definitely worth the time that I took. Just to see all the coaching staff and meet with the head coach, them telling me they were fun and open but also telling me what I wanted to hear. I don't know how to put it, but it was different. The atmosphere was different. Great staff, just a great Notre Dame family and just in general. Just really great.” SLIDE 2 of 8 ON THE BEST PART OF HIS FIRST NOTRE DAME VISIT "The best part of the trip was definitely the staff. You've seen the staff, I figured it was going to be a chat, say hello, go on a tour. But I went into every single staffer's room and we had a personal talk. They could just connect with me. Like I said back then at the beginning, they could not just connect with me on a normal level, but they connected to me on a personal level. That's what I think separates them from most coaches that I've visited so far." SLIDE 3 of 8 ON THE COACHES HE WAS AROUND THE MOST DURING THE TRIP "I spent most of the time with coach Mickens, the corners coach. When I talked to the defensive coordinator, coach Freeman, he wants me to play corner actually, so I spent more time with Mickens and all of them. I loved to hear that because I want to play corner, but I can also play safety. I would love to play corner though." SLIDE 4 of 8 ON HIS TIME WITH CORNERBACKS COACH MIKE MICKENS "I had a great time with coach Mickens. He told me 'DMM' which means Deny My Man. He also taught me a whole bunch of things that I'm going to implement into my game. I just loved that when I was talking to him, I could connect with him on not just like a normal level, but a personal level. I could understand what he's saying. Most coaches, I get what they're saying, but coach Mickens, he brought it to another personal level to where I can take it and also implement it." SLIDE 5 of 8 ON HIS TIME WITH DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR MARCUS FREEMAN "Coach Freeman talked about how he wanted me. He was just pushing about how he wanted me and then talked about him coming from Cincinnati. His main thing was about being violent and that's what I am. He just loved that I was a tall, long DB and I was a violent athlete. He saw my tape. He just really wants me.” SLIDE 6 of 8 ON HIS TIME WITH DEFENSIVE DIRECTOR OF RECRUITING CHAD BOWDEN "We got a chance to chop it up a little bit too. I think he's a great guy and a great coach as well. Like I said, with the rest of them, they connected to me on a personal level.” SLIDE 7 of 8 ON IF HE THOUGHT ABOUT COMMITTING WHILE ON CAMPUS "That's kind of a hard question. Well, it's always been on my mind. Like with any school or any offer I get, it's always on my mind to commit to that. But I think Notre Dame, they set the bar higher than most schools. I'm more interested now that I came to them than when I was before just talking to them on the phone." SLIDE 8 of 8 ON FOUR-STAR TEAMMATE PEYTON BOWEN, HIS GOOD FRIEND AND TEAMMATE "That school is getting an amazing player. Peyton is an amazing guy on and off the field. We definitely kind of want to go to a school together. I just think he's amazing. He's a great player. There's a reason why he has four stars." also love the way Ryan raved about his time with Mickens...landing these 2 guys would be a HUGE step up in DB recruiting
Shitty news on Tausili Akana from Loy: I'm told the visit to Notre Dame is off. The Irish aren't going to be able to recruit him at this time, so the visit was canceled.
the whole top 4 conference champions gets a bye is flat out dumb in the new playoff scenario...How could a 10-2 OK team ranked 7th be ahead of an undefeated ND team ranked #1 or #2? Outside of that, it does almost guarantee ND entry into the playoffs unless they absolutely stink it up
from reading around the internet and getting a general vibe from writers, it feels like ND has legit shots to get commits from Tobias and Lucas this weekend...both would be gigantic adds Tobias is a smoother/faster Colzie and my fav WR prospect of the last 3 cycles (that ND had a legit shot w/) Lucas would be the best DT ND has landed in a long long time
Yeah, with Barkley plus a few good receivers (don't remember who and too lazy to look up). Nobody considered the impact probation would have on their lines so they ended up being massively overrated.
Judging by Swarbrick's comments this is ND's tradeoff for not being in a conference. ND doesn't have to play a CCG, but doesn't get the perk of a first round bye. When you put it like that it's fair I guess.
