Exactly, but if it becomes relabeled EC rye as store picks and barrel proofs, it wont be a total loss.
I can already buy that whenever I want so that doesn’t help me. Keep in mind the world needs to revolve around me.
Ec rye barrel proof doesn’t exist yet as far as I know, and I’ve never heard of an ec rye store pick.
I'm a sucker for port so if no one else is calling dibs, I'd love to get the samples. That's only if it's not a pain in the ass to go out of your way to ship them.
Hang on putting on my cunty hat: it wasn’t so much that they were bitter or over Oaked, they tasted young, and abrasive. Two of the samples left me with the taste of what nail polish remover smells like on my tongue. Neither of the first two had any real strong character to them. The nose gave away that they were younger barrels imo, because there wasn’t much to them other than the assertive harsh notes you catch often on young and inconsistent bourbon. Even proofing each sample down they were still bad. None of the deep red fruit notes you’d expect from a port finish. The barrel numbers on the first two were like 9 numbers apart, so it would stand to reason that they came from the same area of the shit stable. The third sample literally had almost no nose on it. A little soft hint of honey/brown sugar but proofing that shit down it’d smell like Evian. You could catch a little bit of the fruitiness on the back end of the third one it was an ok pour but nothing I would go back to or be interested in revisiting. The mouth feel on all three was non existent, didn’t leave you with any of that almost oily viscosity that makes drinking something like EHT BP so nice because it sits with you for so long after you drink it. The finish was almost non existent other than the slight hit of fruit, but even that was pretty fucking fleeting. It was much smoother than the other two and didn’t have the harshness the first two did. It was fine, but at 125 proof I was almost shocked by how little flavor it had. I dropped some water in it a little as well and it just got more boring, was it drinkable? Yes. Would I recommend others buy it especially if it was proofed down? No, it was a pass for me.
I just tried the 2021 Dovetail and it was fantastic. What a world we live in where fantastic bourbon just sits on the shelf (for $80.)
$129 is maybe a buy, $139 would be a pass from me I liked this last batch but that’s getting expensive
This is interesting https://ttbonline.gov/colasonline/v...LltHpAcu94xzggV6m2trtQrUTjlNWlnTZAEDQvck0lKlo
pretty sure it is (just at higher proof). The TTB for that also listed Buffalo trace and then the same DSPs. Just a younger 1792 FP is my guess.
Took a flyer on vacation for $45. I’m not a big KC fan, but this is pretty good. It’s a 6 year rye so I said wtheck.
I got one for $30 and loved it at that price. At $45+ though, it's not Pikesville. And I'll be taking the recommendation from someone ITT and trying the Stellum rye next week. 115 proof for $55.
Yeah, I've seen the store pick barrel proofs in the $45-50 range, but this one I got for a discount from a buddy that picked the barrel.
The only thing missing from it was the word astringent. I feel it had to be used somewhere in some way.
And with all of the AE tasting bad news, I just went back to the store so that he can be the next victim of these samples. It felt somewhat cathartic that I told him we had no interest in them and he absolutely understood. On the positive front, he is on the hunt. We should be getting Sazerac samples (BrickTamland ) next week and if we say go it may only take 8 weeks to get it done. He has a couple of more inquiries in the hopper. Four Roses is not a no, but it is not a right now, because they have nothing available. The rep did promise him he would be first in line once it opens up again.
So very old st Nick was originally a Julian Van Winkle bottling and then was done by Willet IIRC, neither have anything to do with it anymore it’s sourced, it’s over priced trying to charge based off the nostalgia or mis identification of it as one of the older bottles imo.
it's the standard 2 crappy 1 OK offering so you take something since one is clearly the best. i think it's a common tactic, honestly. Unless you are a known group/picker and they know better.
Got my bar finally- missing some bottles that are still at my other house but feeling this. Gonna fill that beverage fridge up with Mexican lagers and rose
To be honest it doesn't taste that different from their normal stuff, so that is pretty much their product. Beautiful bottle though.
