Nah fuck that man, give me my 2,080x40, a sweet acrylic retirement plaque and a firm handshake from some exec for a job well done and my life will have had meaning.
It doesn't quite ruin my day.... But working in multiple time-zones is a nightmare. I have to work on Riyadh, LA, NY, TX, and Australian time zones and the wife is basically in a coma when she sleeps so I have to make sure I wake up to any potential call or email. It just makes it impossible to develop a schedule of normalcy.
I’m fine with having to work and have made sure I like my job well enough without it consuming my life, and I’m in a position where I have lots of holiday time, since travel is one of my passions. That being said, it’s annoying that the 40 hour work week is still mostly a thing. How many employees are truly productive, or need to be productive, for 40 hours per week?
Not trying to judge too much, but this isn’t the first work schedule related post of yours where I’ve read it and been like why would anyone put themselves through that. So I have to ask why?
I get there being bad days but I feel bad some people absolutely feel like they just crawl through life miserable. Finding gratitude for what I do have and understanding I can’t control most things in life leaves me in a blissfully unaware state that keeps me genuinely happy most all the time. Of course I’ve been in jail, homeless, and attempted suicide several times in the past, so the alternative to how I live now isn’t that great of an outcome.
Same here. But it doesn't sound like you agree with the whole "going to work ruins my day" post that is so prevalent here. Sounds like a lot of people here have shit jobs they hate or maybe bosses/co-workers that make their job miserable.
You need to go teach somewhere else. I probably make a lot less money than most of you but the trade off is I have a job that makes me pretty happy. If I hit the lottery tomorrow I would still choose to do something at my school at least part time.
But yeah this society where like 8 people hoard most of the resources while the rest of us fight for what's left is the only realistic option. People are alienated to the point where their only source of identity is the brands they buy or teams they root for. Even as more jobs go away and things are robotized and automated we still have to sit in an office or a cube for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and try not to lose our minds so our boss can buy multiple houses and sexually harass the employees. No wonder more and more people are depressed and have anxiety when they're told over and over their time, and their life in general, is worth far less than this other randomly selected guy. This is the best we can do
Most Christians do not share that opinion, according to polling. It's probably been a minority position for at least a decade, if not since the 90s.
also saying that most people in a group hold the same fucked up and trash opinion is a shitty defense. i don’t care if 100% of christians hold that opinion it doesn’t magically make it acceptable
I think many christians would have a problem with picking and choosing parts of the bible to care about to rationalize your bigotry
I think Jesus Christ would have a problem with picking and choosing parts of the bible to care about to rationalize your bigotry.
Yeah, that’s what most Christians do. Most Christians wouldn’t have an issue with picking and choosing, unfortunately.
Y'all keep making those assumptions about what one loaded question, and my very simple answer means. That said, I'd love to hear the rationalization for saying I'm the one picking and choosing parts of the bible.
I’m a big Christian and have issues with Paul’s writings that lends credence to bigotry. It’s not place to judge anyone. If I believe that the only perfect person is Christ yet the Bible was written by mean it’s enables me to see that there may be flaws in the interpretation by men. At the end of the day all I can do is focus on my spiritual growth through faith and love others regardless of anything.
Scholars disagree on whether Jesus even ever mentions it so with it up for debate it becomes choose your own adventure for folks. There's some shit in the old testament about it but most people pay no attention to the old testament like not cutting your hair or eating pork.
What bigotry do you think I have? Do you think I'm one of those people who protest with signs? That I go out of my way to confront? That I support policies to suppress their lives? That I treat a homosexual any differently than a heterosexual? That I do anything in my daily life that would even make you question what I believed?
Ok first off I never said Jesus did mention it. But there's plenty of other stuff in the new testament about it. If you're serious about having a good faith conversation about wanting to understand where I'm coming from then we first need to define some terms.
late the the party: remembering you sleep for 33% of the day, working for another 33%, and using the last 33% to get ready for the first two at least i dont commute anymore
It's more of a response to being conditioned from past generations to accept things the way they are. I understand I have to work. That isn't mine (or I think most's) big issue here. I would just like to be treated like more of a person than a cog. Studies show over and over that the 5 day 40 hour work week is extremely inefficient and employees are way less happy yet very few companies embrace it. Why is that? Shouldn't employers want their employees to be more efficient and happier? And that's just the tip of the ice berg.
Especially your own brother! Who I’m assuming he grew up in the same “class” as before becoming a class trader.
Totally agree. My company definitely appreciates their employees but we only have about 50 employees so it’s a little easier.
Got a company wide email and saw some worthless dingleberry in a different department got promoted. Think that makes the list.
Had a conference call with my boss today and said something along the lines of “four people no longer work for us but anyways let’s have a great day and make some money!!!” but yeah let me be happy to work every day
here you are agreeing with your wife on her being white trash please apologize for accusing me of distorting the truth, grundy. i am a straight shooter widely respected by both sides of the aisle who simply reports the news as it happens
My company cares about me* *until the moment it becomes financially advantageous to not care about me
"appreciates their employees" lmao sorry man that's bullshit. it's a business. you could be gone tomorrow and people would be like wow that sucks for him and keep on working like it ain't no thang. oh hey and maybe the budget looks a little better now. COO's report for the board looks a lil better now.
preparing for my weekly monday morning meeting. waking up and realizing it's sunday and i'm only one day away from my monday morning meeting
It's given me opportunities to have a lot of amazing experiences is really the only justification I can come up with - that and being more social than when I was in Finance.
kinda related but hearing the 60 mins clock on nfl sunday drinking and eating all day and then boom reality sets in that work is tomorrow
When you do the absolute minimum to ensure your company still needs you but not overwork yourself so you don’t get so stressed out you want to die
On my way to work this morning and come over the hill in my driveway and see that my garbage can is turned over in my driveway at the end of the road. A dog(s) had tipped it over and pulled every bag out of it and tore it open. I now have about 6 or 7 trash bags partially emptied out in my driveway. I had to sit there for 20 minutes picking up rain soaked garbage and putting it back into the container. Consider my day ruined.
We have cats around that do this so sometimes I have to pick old nasty garbage that's been in a hot garbage can for days as I leave for work in the morning
