This is the world libertarians want. Not privatization. Just don’t make regulations to help correct for distortions caused by your prior regulation, that isn’t being effective, when you can just relax/remove the prior regulation.
Move away from global capitalism instead of trying to prop it up in general. If not you're going to have to regulate it into oblivion to make it even marginally livable
posting neocons from the cato institute at least is better than the charade of pretending to not be a republican
O&G is the most heavily subsidized industry on the planet. It would cease to exist without the government to leach from
If you think the Cato Institute people are neocons then you don’t know what a neocon is. Here is an article from 2011 about unmasking neoconservativiam. https://www.cato.org/sites/cato.org/files/pubs/pdf/catosletterv9n3.pdf Here is a piece from last year about building a modern military: https://www.cato.org/white-paper/building-modern-military-force-meets-geopolitical-realities The ideas espoused, “The report prioritizes ending the forever wars, terminating needless military spending, rethinking the fundamentals of strategic deterrence, and focusing the entire defense establishment on innovation and adaptation” are not the hallmarks of neoconservativism. Here is an excerpt from another report from 2016 recommending budget cuts, “The United States could reduce Pentagon spending by over a trillion dollars in the next decade—spending $5.2 trillion rather than the currently planned $6.3 trillion— by adopting strategy of military restraint.” Cato is firmly in the smaller military, do less abroad camp.
If you called him a neoliberal I would agree. But not a neocon, no. His area of expertise is trade and he is a fervent free trade advocate. To my knowledge he doesn’t talk much about defense/military intervention so it would be hard to pin him down as a neoconservative.
He moved away from that later on. He recognized that massive problem of wealth inequality and started calling himself a “bleeding heart libertarian”. He also said it was very obvious that Rand Paul “hates women and brown people.”
Also, the only way I could imagine biofuels helping combat climate change would be by maybe being able to be produced locally and reducing the carbon footprint associated with the transport of crude? I don’t know. I’m trying to find some logic there.
I'd bet being a libertarian in Canada is a little more approachable political alignment for people who give a shit about people. Because even if your ideology blatantly disregards or devalues collective well-being, at least there's the cultural expectation that society ought to operate selflessly. Still, "bleeding heart" though he may purport, I still can't bring myself to believe any libertarian legitimately gives a single authentic fuck about their fellow person. And even though I have them all on vinyl, I can't make it through a Rush album after Moving Pictures.
Humans became the most dominant life form we know of through our ability to cooperate in large numbers. Let's stop doing that and pretend we're all just individuals
This is what gets me. I possess a not insubstantial amount of knowledge about how to keep myself and other people alive, but I still recognize how absolutely fucked I would be without the guardrails of society that allow me to function. My continued existence is inexorably tied to living in a society with a strict set of rules about acceptable behavior and accountability. That’s government - and it’s good that we have it. I’m worried that one party’s absolute obeisance to the dipshittiest of dipshits that don’t recognize that fact is making it harder for people to continue to exist.
I’m pretty confident I have yet to see an original or intelligent post from you. It’s pretty much just low bar shit posting without originality. I tend to ignore shitty posters such as yourself. Good day.
the OP having its content both removed and permanently deleted so it can't be recovered is *chefs kiss* on brand
Simply reading the first paragraph of the Bull Moose Party Wikipedia page could’ve prevented that post.
re-read the first three pages like half a dozen hall of fame posts in retrospect my godness. if you got a like on those 3 pages today you might be victorious.
"The new party was known for taking advanced positions on progressive reforms and attracting leading national reformers. The party was also ideologically deeply connected with America's indigenous radical-liberal tradition."
That’s the point. How could you possibly call the Libertarian Party the “GOAT party” and the Bull Moose Party the “GOAT party?” They’re essentially opposite platforms.
Teddy created the party out of smite, and enabled Woodrow Wilson, a top ten woat POTUS to win. Hopefully Donald pulls a Teddy this cycle.
But considering I don’t know what they were and the thread we’re in - I can only assume it semantics about age of consent.
Confession: I was once a libertarian. I think the very beginning of my transition away from that ideology was after reading “Atlas Shrugged” I really just could not convince myself that book wasn’t garbage, it’s so fucking bad.
I used to think I was a libertarian, but in reality I had just turned away from my conservative upbringing but couldn’t yet admit to myself that I was a liberal, and I was also ignorant enough to think that libertarian was in the middle of those two
I used to think I was “socially liberal, and fiscally conservative.” then I stopped being a gigantic fucking dumbass and realized those 2 statements aren’t congruent and I needed to fuck my own face for ever thinking it I applaud anyone who grows and advances in empathy for man and votes as such. Signed, someone who had a “W The President” sticker on his truck.
Libertarianism appeals to a lot of young men. Rhetorically and intuitively it makes a lot of sense. Then as you educate yourself on issues you realize it’s just astrology for dudes.
I used to be a libertarian. I still am. But I used to be, too. Spoiler none of this is true. I just felt like borrowing from one of my favorite Mitch Hedberg lines
