Figure a new thread is needed, unless I’m an idiot and didn’t see it which is a high possibility Swimming trials just started. Gonna be the Dressel show but so many other monsters.
Already 2 AR, both in prelims. Torri Huske in 100 fly, Michael Andrew in 100 breast. Andrew should be 2nd most decorated male outside of Dressel, he’s crazy good
The 400 IM finals were wild, such a hard event. 100 IM short course is hard, 200 absolutely sucks, you may swim 8 hours a day and will still gas in a 400
Missed a good bit of the last winter games and summer games due to military obligations. Love watching them so I hope this summers actually happens.
They’ve said it’s happening but aren’t allowing fans from outside countries and obviously a quarantine period. Even with the vaccine, athletes need to be staying away from other people.
I am always excited to watch the Olympics, but this year will be pretty cool - a kid in pole vaulting is from my home town and he is amazingly good, he is the current record holder. Competing for Sweden though (mom is swedish but he was born, grew up in Louisiana and went to LSU for a little while).
Noah Lyles is gonna be fun in the 200 Our best 100 guy, Christian Coleman, got suspended for failing/missing drug tests so the hits keep on coming there
I’m here for all of the tenor pitched Rowdy Gaines calls which iconically stick out in my mind as some of my favorite Olympic calls in my lifetime.
Female medley is a dream team. Regan Smith WR holder in back, Lilly, butterfly was .2 off WR tonight, then Simone. Men’s is crazy too now that we have a great breaststroker
Track is setting up to be awesome. Some college kids are crushing it and have the best times in the world so far in a few events (200 and 400, and I think the 1500 off the top of my head). But the pros are likely leaving more in the tank for now. Feel like us track trials will be fantastic and the fact that Usain Bolt has retired means the sprints are ready for a new star.
He was 2nd in 200 free prelims then scratched, he only did that to get on 4x200 relay and questionable if he did enough 100 free/fly and 50 free later in the week
Goddammit was it a hot dog? If so, I refuse to amend my post and will continue acting as if it was a burrito because the sanctity of my joke takes priority here.
Track has the potential for insane records and I’m sure you can attribute a lot to the shoes but there is also just incredible talent and storylines everywhere. The extra year has really allowed some young stars the chance to qualify. Being a climber I’m pumped for it to get more visibility, I’m hopeful people will view climbers much like gymnasts in that they’re just crazy athletes who make doing ridiculously tough things look routine.
The late 80s were the peak steroid era for weightlifting and track probably a lot of other sports I don’t follow
I mean, there is a long history of male Mexican athletes getting a pass for positive clenbuterol tests due to tainted pork supplies
