i am a sucker for when bands do the hard tremolo riff and then run it back "slower" add a galloping beat and you can take my money every time
To me it’s just mid tempo to fast punk beats. 5:20 in the track The Third Door. Boom tap boom boom tap that is slower than all out skate punk (even though that’s fully D beat influenced too IMO) that shit hits me right in my punk hardcore kid heart
it’s a type of punk named after a distinctive drum beat that shows up in a lot of songs. it’s associated with European, specifically Scandinavian, punk scenes. a lot of the bands have anti-fascist politics. my introduction to the genre was the band Disfear’s 2008 album Live The Storm, specifically the track ‘Maps Of War’. that band is fronted by Thomas Lindbergh, the vocalist of At The Gates.
also, crust punk is like the ‘extreme’ version of d-beat, with metal influences. it’s super heavy but they find a way to make melody work.
i'm watching Until the Light Takes Us for the first time in 5+ years at least varg vikerness is such a pompous jackass. fenriz seems cool as fuck. just a regular dude who loves metal i also want to fight whoever said it was ok for fenriz to chew gum during the recording
Picked the vinyl for this album up today on Bandcamp. Progressive death metal, Dan Presland from Ne Obliviscaris on the drums.
new 'ween has leaked bit confused by the d/l numbers, when did they obtain a fanbase the size of tool?
The first 24 hours of a new release on average gets about 10 seeds, a popular band may get up to 100-150 seeds, this motherfucker had over 400 today.
This album should have ended their career, instead their delusional fanbase gives it an average score above 70 on MA.
Let me be clear, new album might be really good, I don't know because I haven't heard it yet. I'm just shitting on the mid era stuff because it was fucking bad.
RADIO FENRIZ!!!!!!!!! is back... kind of... for $3/month https://www.patreon.com/fenrizmetal...yOSlgWuvjB1PizEokiPYzqo3hYMC_eel0jMQdn84fvdTA
Bands I’ve been listening to a lot recently — PRIMITIVE KNOT — lo fi industrial metal, kinda has a CIRCLE vibe to some of it. LEECHFEAST — psyche-funeral-sludge THE CROOKED WHISPERS — primitive satanic/horror-fueled doom but does not sound like Electric Wizard, more blackened BLESSINGS — Swedish metal/hardcore but so much more LLNN — screamo/postmetal
One of my coworkers loves this band. It was too much death metal for me when we were in the truck together
I don't want to have a calculator handy to appreciate what's happening I'm also soft and I need melody
I still hold a dear place in my heart for all the hammer horror gothic cheese of Theatre of Tragedy (re: violins in metal) I don’t know if the 90s folk metal stuff like almost every Andreas Hedlund fronted band, Haggard, Agalloch, Empyrium, Windir, Hades Almighty, or weirder stuff like Profanum, Arcturus, Tartaros actually featured violins but it may be worth checking out if you’re just looking for that vibe. I think the best use of violin in metal is still At The Gates
I'm ok with black metal. I'm ok with hardcore. Not sure I'm ok with mixing the two. Fucking Portland.
I really like the selective use of violin on Terminal Spirit Disease. that record will always be my favorite ATG
Am i dreaming this or was there a post from a while back on a YouTube series that discussed upcoming metal releases? I can’t find it now, thought I subbed but I didn’t. I still have a hard time finding new releases (and new bands) organically. Spotify use to do a decent job at recommendations but my mixes lately have been pretty stagnant.
Orchid did a good job with this and I’ll always love the d-beat/crust/post punk influenced black metal but I can’t get into bands like this. It’s kind of too ‘on the nose’ and doesn’t sound blended and cohesive. It’s like they’re just focused on checking off genre ear markers instead of writing good music.

Some other newer stuff I’ve been digging if anyone is interested in these styles BARRENS — spacey post metal XASTHUR — acoustic yumminess (I know he hasn’t been doing metal for almost a decade now but this is good stuff especially if you’re into anything like Sir Richard Bishop, Six Organs of Admittance, James Blackshaw, Jack Rose, etc) WIGRID — Burzum worship/basement black metal CIRCLE OF OUROBOROS — avant garde black metal ASTRAL — primitive black metal from ‘94 by the guy who went on to form the prolific GNAW THEIR TONGUES post industrial project
It’s great. Every track is good to great. The singles still rule, this version of Skyfall is better. First track is classic Helloween. Down In The Dumps my pick for sleeper hit. Guess I’m a sucker for Weikath written songs
