Use it all the time, it's great. Generally much cheaper than rental companies. Just make sure you follow the reviews, like airbnb -- I've never rented anything with less than like 4.5 stars.
Had a friend I just met last year while traveling tell me about this last week. Said she used it in San Francisco. Said it was great but their car got really fucked up on the last day from track of a roll down gate. Still working to solve the issue. I saw pics and the front bumper is ruined.
Any must do things in Key West I should know about? Last time I went I was 21 (31 now) and it was a booze fest. Will still probably be a booze fest but if anyone has any spots/recs that might fly under the radar would appreciate it.
Going to Tulum for my 30th later this year with my wife, brother, sister in law, and potentially wolfpck. Any and all tips/recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Be careful where you eat. My wife and stayed at a resort when we did Playa Del Carmen and had no issues there. We did a day trek to Chichen Itza and ate lunch at a local place. I had gastro issues the next three days until we left. We checked out a cenote that allowed you to swim. Basically, an underground lake where water flows into it through a sinkhole at ground level. There are several cool ones in that area.
RIP Chamicos. Posada Margherita was really good a few years ago. rent a car and drive to the cenotes for a day. There is a really really cool low key lagoon a few miles south of Tulum, Laguna de Muyil I think. I've heard it has gotten absurdly packed in the last 18 months.
Tulum is mindblowing to me, I proposed to my wife in Playa del Carmen in 2001, and on that trip we visited Tulum, which meant we took a bus 45 minutes to an intersection with a gas station and a couple of cantina's, walked down a dusty road to the ruins, stayed a while, then took a bus back. Nothing to see other than the ruins.
Definitely this, everyone we visited was incredibly cool. Casa Cenote might have been my favorite, swimming through the mangroves was awesome.

now to figure out if we can train over to paris as initially planned or if we should just stay in the netherlands and spend a day or two in other cities there
Well its been raining here for the past 4 days....going to isla holbox this weekend. then isla mujeres after Bars and restaurants close at 11 pm due to high amount of covid in the area.
Said this in the legalize pot thread, the rick steves interview on how I built this podcast is so so good
Just booked my flight to Alaska for a trip with a few friends in august. One of my friends lives outside of anchorage, so we’ve got a place to stay. Definitely going to do some salmon fishing, then trying to figure out the rest of the 10 days we’re there. Probably Denali, but I’m open to hearing y’all’s recommendations.
If you plan to stay at the resort, no. If you want to maximize Maui, yes. Road to Hana, day trip to Lahaina and Honolua bay, etc.
Crow Pass Trail in Girdwood, just south of anchorage https://www.google.com/maps/place/C...b6abea1d95814!8m2!3d61.0602778!4d-149.1161112 https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/alaska/crow-pass-trail-from-girdwood-trailhead I saw a bald eagle at the pass in Sept. You should be there just before larch season - which is beautiful in Girdwood specifically.
I literally can't get one. Wondering if I should bail on it and look to go elsewhere or just Uber/Lyft around the island.
Second on Girdwood, lots of good hiking in and around the resort. Girdwood Brewing is awesome and has a couple food trucks as well, Jack Sprat is a great restaurant too. Another hour and a half down the highway gets you to Seward, more great hiking but the boat tours are fun too. Highly recommend Seward Ocean Excursions if you’ve got a small group, the boat fits 6 or so people as opposed to the massive tour boats. Talkeetna is a cool town to spend the day in if you’re going up to the Denali area, I’ve done a flightseeing tour through K2 that was also well worth the price tag. Plenty of good/easier hikes in the immediate Anchorage area too, Flat Top is really popular and so is Mount Baldy, I prefer Baldy for the views but both are worth it. Anchorage Brewing is the best in town but a newer close second is Turnagain; Double Shovel has solid ciders if anyone in the group prefers that. Spenard Roadhouse is great, get the halibut and chips. That same meal is very good at 49th State as well. Restaurant called South was my fiancée’s favorite, great any time of day but especially brunch
I’ve been looking at booking a honeymoon to Hawaii (possibly that same Hyatt you’re looking at) and am having the same issue. I checked Turo too as someone mentioned and cars are going for $200 per day Making me think we should book somewhere in Europe instead hoping they stay on track for Americans to visit
Great write up - ditto to everything he said except double shovel, Spenard roadhouse, and flightseeing - none of which I have done. Here is the view of Denali from Talkeetna Overlook inn, from which I also saw the Northern Lights. Warning, most people don't get this clear a view of the summit.
I want to share too. More Alaska pics. L to R: Denali from Flat Top, atop Mt Baldy when I thought I was about to be bald eagle prey, flight out of Anchorage around 10:30-11pm (we got lucky and got upgraded so we had our own row, window seats are great on this flight but especially during the daytime going up there. Amazing views over Canada), flightseeing headed toward Denali Spoiler
I did the math at some point, and OTOH, I think I'm like ~40 miles away here, shooting on a Sony a6400, though not sure on the focal length. here is the view from the common room at the aforementioned Inn. It's actually for sale. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/29198-S-Talkeetna-Spur-Talkeetna-AK-99676/247762525_zpid/
I really enjoyed the Kenai peninsula. It had good hiking and I enjoyed our boat trip out of Seward into Kenai Fjords. I liked driving into McCarthy and hiking root glacier. It might be the most remote place you can drive in the US. Denali is great. One hike that might not get much attention, but finished with some of the best views anywhere I've been was Lions Head. It's northeast of Anchorage. Another fun off the beaten path hike was to Castner Glacier Cave. It's near Delta Junction. It is fairly dangerous in summer, you have to scramble over rocks on the edge of glacial runoff and then avoid falling rocks at the cave entrance. But it's a really cool experience.
All true. If he's only got two full days there, probably easiest to just hang out at the resort and explore Kaanapali by foot, there's a lot within walking distance. He was never going to maximize Maui with that limited schedule. Assuming that Hyatt has a direct shuttle to and from Kahului
Definitely yes. Road to Hana is amazing and just being able to go wherever you want when you want is nice.
I am far from an expert on this subject, but I will say that seeing the Maroon Bells, near Aspen, at sunrise is an awesome experience. The mountains almost glow when the sun hits them. But that's not a hike. You do have independence pass nearby, which is beautiful and I'm sure has good hiking around, I just drove through. Not too far away at Glenwood Springs is hanging lake. It's not too long of a hike, pretty steep, and probably crowded, but it is a really neat lake. I didn't get to hike in them, but the San Juan Mountains (Telluride) are some of the most beautiful mountains I've been in. Maybe also check in the camping/ backpacking/ hiking thread.
For those headed to Maui, just got an email from Warren and Annabelle's announcing their reopening June 28. Been there twice, loved it both times
So tempted to book a quick trip over to Europe this summer. Haven’t paid much attention but are most countries in a similar place re: lockdowns and vaccines?
I was in Telluride last week and while it's semi-posh, and I'm nursing a foot injury so was only able to do easy hikes - I know there are some in the area. Plenty more choices in/around Rico, Ouray, and possibly Ridgway. Absolutely tons of trails in White River National Forest, but I've only done that in the winter. I did a 4 mile variant of the Jud Wiebe trail (overlooking Telluride), here is an idea of the views Spoiled the payoff view Spoiler
anyone been to maastricht? trying to figure out a second netherlands city to spend a couple days, don't think we're leaving the netherlands to avoid any border hiccups but almost everything is less than an hour train ride from amsterdam other idea is just stay in amsterdam the whole time and day trip out
