Yeah I thought the deal ended up being 50/50 once Sofia bailed, but that was only until the contract expired. So I’d guess she’s free to walk (if I remember correctly).
I think it was KFC maybe him and Big Cat but they had a hilarious reaction about Dave giving up the IP.
Yeah pretty sure Dave said once she worked the remainder of the contract they had agreed to she would have 100% of the IP and would be free to do as she wished.
I think at that time he thought they’d be able to come to a long-term deal too because I remember on a rundown he was almost trying to convince KFC/BC (probably himself) that he felt like she’d stick around for awhile now and she’d be more involved. Obviously that didn’t happen when she loved to California. Was definitely perfect timing for Alex though in a way, that was right at the start of COVID so Dave/Barstool really needed to keep CHD on board. Not saying she wouldn’t have made big money either way, but I have to imagine that IP deal doesn’t happen if they weren’t trying anything to keep CHD rolling.
I assume Mintz told him to bet Arkansas, or was hyping them up to win the CWS, because I saw a video of Dave heckling him saying he bought 100s of dollars worth of Arkansas gear LOL Which knowing Dave he probably bought it after they lost just to tell Mintz he did it.
Initially I read 20MM, but looks like that was per year. Just read 60MMish over a 3 year deal. Still a couple of comments on Reddit referring to Erika saying on her pod that Barstool still has some involvement with the merch. I guess Dave also talked about it on a stream yesterday and said he was happy for Alex and that Barstool was even involved in the negotiations with Spotify so BS was in the loop at all times. Unlike before.
Skimmed the podcast real quick and heard Erika say “I’m excited for us to play a very big role as her partner in creating a newsletter and a platform for her merchandise” then said “you’ll still be able to find anything and everything CHD on Barstool Sports” I do remember there being some kind of tidbit where Barstool got a % of merch and alcohol sales. Just can’t remember what details were pre-closing the deal, and what actually happened.
That’s a great deal for both sides I think. Barstool is good at the merch stuff and Alex went and got PAID by Spotify.
Yep you got it right. Listened to Erika's pod on a run over lunch. Seems like a decent outcome for BS and a great outcome for Alex.
Geez. Get tens of millions of dollars to talk about largely embellished stories about sex and the like. Welcome to show business in America, Baby!
I also found it interesting the Spotify post said “new season”. Does that podcast not just come out weekly like a regular one? I know she has a different style where there’s a lot of editing and what not after the fact.
Sounds like a good deal for everyone but spotify. I’m no expert in podcast deals but $60MM for chd seems nuts.
Big Cat and some of those original guys have to be so happy she's gone. They seemed so bitter and jealous when she joined
Those two were pretty annoying at the start, would really just show up to annoy Dave or complain about having to be there. I wouldn’t blame anyone for disliking them. I think once BC/KFC realized how successful the podcast was they just started thinking of it as more money for them/barstool and didn’t care. Although I do think they both probably had a small part of their brain hoping “Grudge Dave” would come out in full force, but I’m sure we all did.
Big Cat and PFT have to be wondering why they aren’t worth 9 figures like Dave yet after seeing this deal.
Best info I could find was saying CHD gets 2M downloads an episode. Which is more people than the 2019 College World Series Final. So I think it can drive some good ad revenue.
Maybe it’s because I’m rarely influenced by an ad (TV, podcast, etc) but it’s always shocking to me how much money is spent on advertising. Obviously it pays off, but still shocks me. Especially when it comes to Youtube or Podcasts
When Guy Fieri got his new deal, and it was mentioned DDD alone brought in $250 mil in ads, my mind was completely blown...what's an ad read on an EP of PMT cost....50k?
That place is awesome. You better have an idea of what you want going in, because the pace is hectic and you will get yelled at if you hold up the line.
It’s wild in there around lunch. Always good though. The family has another spot in the Arcade in Nashville that’s downtown. Pizza is great there but less of a chaotic experience.
