So I didn’t realize we also have the 37th and 42nd picks, plus whatever LA’s pick ends up being. I can’t imagine us making all those picks, so a trade back into the first round seems plausible.

I've known for years Drummond was not good, but it's amazing how useless he is on a team that actually matters.

I'm not quite there yet, but I think I'd take him over Mobley right now and he's easily ahead of Suggs and Kuminga, IMO.

Pistons aren't at the point to consider roster fit over talent but if their grades on Mobley and Green are even remotely close, they really have to go with Green

From the Ringer mock draft posted today. https://nbadraft.theringer.com/mock-draft

    Detroit Pistons
Mobley would fit seamlessly with Detroit’s rookie class from 2020. Isaiah Stewart would have a frontcourt partner who can space the floor, take defenders off the dribble, and make plays for others. On defense, Mobley has the versatility to defend the perimeter, complementing Stewart’s proven ability to be a force inside. Mobley’s qualities would also pair nicely alongside Saddiq Bey and Killian Hayes, further bolstering the team’s defense and adding a dimension on offense. The fit is so good that the Pistons may even prefer Mobley to Cunningham.

Seems like Grant plays best at PF so drafting Mobley and pushing him back to SF isn't the best fit at least for the short term. I guess maybe they would try to trade high on Grant if the draft fell this way. Green just seems like so much better a fit given the roster composition. No way they would take him over Cunningham.

Also one of Mobley's player comps is Christian Wood.

Seems odd, if they're so pleased with the development of a young roster last season, that they're turning over so much of the staff.

Player development coaches handle a lot of the individual growth of players.

Two of the three guys they're likely replacing are Sidney Lowe (one of the worst head coaches in NBA/CBB history) and Tim Grgurich (who is 79 years old). I'm okay with it.

I'm wondering if he's not young in the eyes of Tim Grgurich, and is likely retiring. His official title was something along the lines of "assistant coach for player development" or something like that. Beilein would seem to be taking on that role in a lot of ways, although I don't think he's going to be on the bench (because he's never been an assistant, you know)

I'm pretty far removed from the Pistons. Don't think I ever saw them televised last year, and I'm only vaguely aware that Casey is the head coach, much less that those fossils were holding down the bench last year. The combination of last season's remote takeaway of "young players meshed really well, hope for the future" with "all these shitheads gotta go" seemed like a disconnect.

I don't think this is a "these shitheads gotta go" situation. Bayno and Kalamian both worked for Casey in Toronto and might not have been available (or chose to work elsewhere) prior to this. Allen was on Stevens' staff since he got there, I think. I don't know what the turnover rate is among assistants for coaches who stick in one spot for a while, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was pretty high outside.

I think he's the 5th or 6th best player in the draft based on pretty much everything I've seen. The advanced metrics stuff from his season in Europe are absurd.

I'd definitely take him over Boughknight, who Edwards continues to pump up for us at #5 or 6. Not sure I'd take him over Wagner or Barnes, but he's got a higher ceiling than both, probably.

I can't wait to see who they pick at 6.

New Orleans is winning the lottery so they can pair Cade and Zion in NOLA. Golden State and Toronto are the 2nd and 3rd choice.

I’m in the same boat. I think getting Mobley limits our perimeter offense compared to getting Green who shot nearly 37% 3 point in the G League. He’s a pure scorer.
Getting Green also comparatively takes away length inside, but gives us a bit of more position versatility from 2-4 with Grant.

It also feels like the Pistons have a ton of confidence in Diallo, so that could contribute to Mobley being the pick.

I think I lean toward Mobley at 2 because his top end potential, but I'm fine with Green at 2.

Mobley and Green are basically tied for me. I think Mobley and Green are closer to Cunningham than the media/casual fan thinks, and I think the dropoff from 3 to 4 is bigger than those people seem to think.

I also think, as the draft approaches, the difference between 4 and 8 is going to be thought of lesser than it currently is. Hollinger posted his rankings on The Athletic today, and he's got Kuminga at 8. I think Barnes and Wagner are closer to Suggs and Kuminga than the reporting has suggested to this point.

Maybe it’s just a defense mechanism, but I’m not entirely convinced that Cunningham will be a better pro than Green. Cunningham has almost zero bust potential, but Green has such an amazing upside as a scorer that I can see him being the best player from this draft.

I think that's definitely on the table. I think all three of those guys are somewhat similar in terms of ceiling. The difference is I think it's just easier to project Cunningham onto a team than the others. Green is more explosive, but not as good of a playmaker or defender. Mobley is probably the most talented, but bigs are so dependent on the people around him in the league today that it's harder to maximize that talent than with someone like Cunningham.

My question is if we take Suggs, how effective can Hayes be at the 2? I presume that he would still see decent minutes as the lead guard, but how effective can he be without the ball?

I think Suggs would be the two in that scenario. Or, at the very least, it would be a time share of sorts. I don't think that's a great fit unless they both improve significantly as shooters.

I don't currently see a purpose for Killian off the ball, but maybe as he shoots better.
