Bar wise I like Wiseacre, Lafayette, high cotton, plus a few others I’m forgetting. Really liked midtown The bass pro is also cool af if you’re into that sort of thing
Go see the greyhounds race at southland. Won’t be around much longer (good thing), but it’s a good experience.
Central BBQ nachos. Don't take a Lyft across the Mississippi because your boy booking the ride doesn't know geography.
Some other places I've liked in that general area: Bardogs, Majestic Grille, Itta Bena. Blues city cafe for late night food on Beale.
1) what part of town are you staying in 2) how long are you here 3) what kind of stuff are you looking to get into (sight seeing, clubs, bars ?)
Depending on your BBQ preference: Central BBQ - Pulled pork nachos(get the house chips instead of the tortilla chips), smoked bologna sandwich. Rendezvous - Ribs, sausage and cheese plate Cozy Corner - Burnt Ends, Cornish hen. Bar-B-Q Shop - BBQ Spaghetti If you want good Po-Boys, go to Second Line and enjoy the patio if the weather is nice.
All downtown or South Main: Central BBQ Bardog Local Rizzo’s Ernestine and Hazel’s Flight Aldo’s pizza Itta Bena sucks imo Rendezvous is alright, I wouldn’t suggest it but I would oppose it if a group suggested/wants to go
Sun studio does tours if you’re into rock/music history. Grizz games are fun and easy to get tix to if they’re in town. Central BBQ as others have mentioned. If you want to gamble, Tunica, MS is about 45 min ride south and has two casinos.
Rendezvous is overrated. Fun experience but not close to the best Q. Tom’s, Germantown Commissary, original Central are all better. Commissary has the best ribs of the group. Ernstine and Hazels Overton Park and Cooper Young Beale St Coastal Fish at Shelby farms get the oysters and sorbets Flight Memphis 901 Griz game Bass Pro Silky’s
Ernestine and Hazel's is a fantastic dive bar. The soul burger is great late night food, but it's a salt bomb if you're too sober. It's not the same as it used to be, but Raiford's is still worth seeing for a late night spot. https://memphismagazine.com/features/raifords-disco-the-beat-goes-on/
Commissary is great (get the banana pudding for dessert) but it’s a good 35-40 minutes from the Peabody.
This is true. Luckily it’s 1.2 miles from my house. the down side of that. The wife doesn’t eat meat other than fish. Gray Canary is also a solid option. But I’d honestly stay away from the “higher end” restaurants. Just get ya some good southern cookin and bbq while you’re here.
lot of good recommendations here. Used to live on mud island and all of these were places I enjoyed. I really used to like hog and hominy a lot back in the day, they had phenomenal sweet breads.
Same. Lived in south main area then bought on mud island, it was a great place for young adults. Always something good going on.
It's really just a point of personal preference which BBQ place you like best...there's no bad ones between Central, Commissary, BBQ Shop, and Corky's
I'm not certain Commissary does....I know Central, BBQ shop, and Corky's do. Just checked. Commissary doesn't have draft, but cans.
Hopefully the Memphis restaurant is better than the Nashville location. Nashville’s Central BBQ is utter trash
Going to be downtown tomorrow. I have to go to an event at the Cannon Center tomorrow night. 3.5 hour drive and turning around to come home afterwards. Anyways, I'm probably going to hit up Central for nachos again. But I'm going to have some time to kill. 1.) Where should I park if I plan on walking around throughout the afternoon? Cannon , Central, and Bass Pro will be destinations for sure. 2.) Anywhere have a good BBQ totcho? It doesn't have to be downtown. I will have some time to kill. Wouldn't mind trying something different beside Central
Also check out the Belz museum. Priceless jade sculptures and artifacts in an office basement. It rocks.
If you’re trying to park downtown, there’s free parking on Court by the law school between front and riverside that’s almost always empty bc people don’t know about it. It’s on the north end of downtown but not a bad walk. For Bass Pro you’d probably be best off just parking there bc it’s a long walk through the parking lot from anywhere else. This guy is an idiot
Last time I went, I had ribs at BBQ Shop and it was indescribable. Also had wings and nachos at Central and it didn’t blow me away as much but it was still great.
