The aesthetic is better but as someone who had to used a brita pitcher for the last 10 years there was 0% chance I wasn't getting an exterior dispenser on my new one.
How it started: Heck yeah let's move ourselves. How it's going: Fuck me, who can I hire to move on a short notice to finish the move
Dudes were awesome. Each smoked at least a pack of marlboro reds, and probably drank 6 mountain dews each. Got up to 90 and they did not have a sip of water. They had water in their cooler, but would just use it to rub on the back of their necks while drinking another dew. Bought everybody burgers for lunch, they immediately threw every vegetable from the burger into the firepit. But they were hard workers, got a lot of pathway finished. And they're coming back this week to do exactly this.
Our appraisal for our refi to 15 years came in, $378k. Not too shabby considering we purchased for $143k 7 years ago. My renovations have paid off.
$4500 fence $2400 exterior house paint $4200 living & dining remodel $3900 windows $45,000 kitchen & den $22,000 master & nursery $7500 new HVAC $3800 attic spray-foam $7800 back & side yard landscaping $3500 patio awning Total of $104,600. So basically $105k. I did basically all the demo, framing, and drywall myself as well as the kitchen & bath cabinets. I did 50% of the interior painting. I did the privacy fence myself. If I would have contracted 100%, I could have very easily done this… Still left to go is 1 bedroom, common hall bath, hall, and garage. Along with front yard landscaping.
We bought in 2002 for $510k, put $280k into it with a 2005 master suite addition and a 2008 kitchen/downstairs remodel, and as of 2015 it was valued at $890k. Argh I did most of the demo and interior painting
My GF was using the microwave today and said it “shut off”, I assumed it was a breaker but I just got home from work and don’t see any breakers that popped. Even turned them off/on and nothing. Don’t really have another way to test the outlet so I plugged a phone charger in and it doesn’t work. Also messed with the GFI outlets. Any suggestions here? I feel like I have to be messing something up but maybe the entire outlet actually RIP’d
this happened to us a few months ago. Tried a different outlet and still didn’t work so bought a new microwave, HTH
That was my original thought, but the fact my phone charger didn’t work in the outlet is what made me think it might be the outlet itself.
Make absolutely sure you didn't miss a GFI. I've had it where a GFI trips one that you totally wouldn't expect, like a kitchen trips the garage or something similar.
Going on a scavenger hunt for any I missed. Thought I only had one in my master bathroom and kitchen.
Fun story. I have a giant freezer in my garage filled with beef gbr nfm. Was working on something in the kitchen one night and had an outlet out. Went and flipped every single GFI in the house and finally went to the garage and found out all my garage outlets were tripped, including my freezer. If I hadn't found it inside I would have had a freezer full of thawed meat. Pretty stupid to have them in different spots like that but ultimately saved me.
That reminds me I think I remember my home inspector mentioning the GFI in my master bathroom being the one that would reset any outlets in my garage. Also from what I can tell everything else is working properly, so starting to think it’s the actual outlet. Been dragging my feet on calling an electrician for an unrelated job, wishing I called them today lol
Unfortunately just a regular outlet there. Thinking the two GFI outlets I know about are the only ones.
Not sure if this is a good or bad development but just discovered the light/ceiling fan in the living room outside of the kitchen also does not work. Everything else appears to be OK though.
I was hoping you reported back in 15-20 minutes that you looked everywhere on the roof and could not find the “auxiliary outlet.” Maybe next time.
I did it the last move and it was nbd Guess 6 years made a lot of difference. I gladly paid for my heavy stuff to get moved today and I will never move myself again.
Sounds like you could possibly have a loose connection somewhere in a daisy chain. Happened to me and I lost almost an entire floor of outlets. Finally found the culprit of a loose connection in a charred outlet box.
It could be the outlet went out I've had a few go out because the installation electrician did em all back stab connections which are terrible and just quit working randomly
could also just be this. I've had a few randomly just go bad but with other electrical things not working as well would have me a tad more worried. If you're really worried about it before an electrician can get there I would just kill that breaker before you go to sleep.
Thinking that’s what I’ll do, I’m sure my GF will not be excited about that decision. Especially since I’m not sure if they’re both on the same breaker so might end up with the kitchen and LR shutoff lol. The fact it went off as the microwave was running was really hoping it was just a breaker.
Obviously this isn’t her fault, but this is perfect timing because last week I told her the #1 reason I hate going back to work while she’s WFH is I don’t know what I’ll come home to each day (usually a pile of dirty dishes or every light turned on…not a major electrical concern)
The Hebrew Husker I’ve been in a similar spot with weird shit. My neighbors have their own electrical business. I felt like a gigantic asshole when I had them come over for a similar issue and they were scratching their heads for a good bit and multiple people running around the house. Long story short GFI was tripped in the bathroom, outlet was behind a vanity, never even knew it was there. They discovered it through asking me if it was okay if they moved furniture, so if you haven’t done that…… Finally, they never charge us so it’s a constant game of trying to figure out what to get them or how to comp them. I only hate it because I never want to “short” them or insult them for their time cause they’re our neighbors and good people.
Im fully expecting this to happen. As long as my house doesn’t burn down before they come I’m glad I already planned to have an electrician come out, at least if it’s something easy I missed it won’t be the ONLY thing they came for.
