No, Woj is actually getting slammed for being "ruthless" like Nichols and keeping diverse storybreakers down. https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/am...spn-rachel-nichols-dan-le-batard-01f9yc3wrpxn
Right. ESPN knew the NYT was close to publishing its story so they leaked to the Post to make her look bad.
Nichols deserves plenty of criticism for her comments, but I really don't like attacking her bona fides. She went to a legit journalism school and worked for legit publications (Washington Post) in an era where there weren't women covering sports on tv. The fact that she married Diane Sawyer's stepson years later doesn't really change that.
But she’d been working at the Washington Post for years before. It’s not necessary to downplay her accomplishments to criticize her for downplaying Taylor’s. The same “she never played” and “she slept her way to the top” shit has been used against women in sports journalism for years. It’s not okay here just because she fucked up.
Idk I think when you start saying someone else got a job because they're black then your own advantages become fair game
I didn't take it as she slept her way to the top, but marrying Sawyer's son more than likely introduced her to people she probably wouldn't have met otherwise.
She’s been on Tony kornheisers radio show for like 15 years she’s been a rising star for a long long time
Honestly pornographic film stars are way above talk radio hosts in the contributing to society rankings
She and Kornheiser worked at WaPo for 6 years before she was married. https://www.espnfrontrow.com/2016/07/nichols-teams-post-mentors-wilbon-kornheiser-pti/
You think interning for someone opens the same doors as having Diane Sawyer as your mother in law? She had advantages. Idk why it's so hard for some to admit that. I don't think anyone is saying she married him bc of that, but you're being naive if you don't think that helped her.
Yeah and I'm saying I don't care if she used that as a assist. No idea if she did or not, but if she did...savvy.
Again, when she says that someone got a job bc they are black, it's fair to point out the advantages that she had. Not sure where the issue is.
there are multiple people in here who rightly condemned nichols' comments re: taylor but are also saying nichols has fucked her way to her success y'all are weird
This is one the the dumbest arguments I have ever seen on here. Nichol’s relationship with Sawyer makes zero sense and not really sure what point you are trying to make. It is almost like Taylor didn’t have her own relationships at UGA that might’ve propelled her over competition and awarded because of her athletic career at UGA. I for one am pissed all the other female journalists weren’t afforded the same opportunity to be 6’2 All American Volleyball players that will be hired by their alma mater.
You're literally making something up. Nobody said that. Rose's daughter said she was related to Sawyer. That's it. Nobody suggested she married her son for that advantage.
I really didn't know we had this many Nichols stans. She's is weird. She said something fucked up and is dealing with the fallout of it. She threw out a baseless accusation and is now having her advantages brought up as well. That's fair play. She opened that door. Weird to see some defend her so hard.
Apologies Prior to 2012, Taylor was a reporter and host for IMG College (now Learfield IMG College) at the University of Georgia for three years. She also appeared on various studio shows including “Dawg Report,” “SEC Men’s Basketball Tonight” and “SportsNite.”
They’re both qualified. Nichols is a piece of shit for discounting Taylor’s qualifications. Even if Nichols “deserves” being criticized herself, and even if Nichols made her own qualifications at issue in comparing herself to Taylor, using misogynist tropes of not playing the sport and who she married is still misogynistic. Taylor doesn’t need Jalen Rose’s daughter to take up that mantle for her. That’s not defending Nichols; it’s pointing out bullshit.
I hope to one day find something i'm as passionate about as dbl is about Rachel Nichols, Maria Taylor, and Diane Sawyer.
Rachel Nichols once covered the Bullets at The Washington Post, but they changed the named to The Wizards. Hope that helps.
To be fair, some male analysts that didn't play the sport are often criticized the same way. Right or wrong, it happens. I don't think one needs to play the sport to speak about it though, so that comment was wrong.
Right, and that's pointed out at times. Often times it's current players that point it out when they disagree with host/analyst.
