Tony was his dad's son, his mom was never not a nightmare in his life. he sought out motherly women but not his mother; he wasn't trying to replicate his childhood, that's for damn sure. Carmela and Livia couldn't be less alike, Carmela was motherly and forgiving, Livia was domineering and cruel.
not a great take, that is one of the thing that made the Christopher/paulie relationship even more interesting. Not having closure made them turn on each other a bit.
it's one of the best episodes in the history of television. It's a preposterous take. letting the Russian get away was a genius decision by the writers.
Chase always had a combative view towards his audience. It’s the reason for the blue balls at the end of the Melfi rape episode and why he basically turned Tony into a monster during the 6th season after he realized his audience grew too fond of him. also the thought that providing closure on the Russian later on in the series would be anything other than corny is a silly take.
i would have loved a flash forward of him in Moscow years later enjoying a brand new home entertainment system.
I’ve watched the whole series like six times and the more you watch it the less the plot matters. The Russian thing doesn’t even register at this point.
