Should I go see Flatland Cavalry Friday night? Not very familiar with their stuff. About $30 per ticket.
As one of the people that chased the oil money and is now stuck in Midland/Odessa this hits home. (Tall City is Midland’s nickname, as it’s basically the only city in west tx with a couple of tall buildings)
It’s painfully obvious that Koe Wetzel is living life way too hard, and we’ll all be witness to the train wreck when it happens
Just looking up the tour dates and locations for Flatland earlier made me think about how easy it would be to fall into a hard living life if you were trying to live that schedule Flatland isn't even gigging but Friday, Saturday, Sunday with the occasional Thurs thrown in there, but realizing that they are probably no where close to having a tour bus or many (if any) roadies. Just thinking about them traveling around in a chevy suburban with a trailer, lugging all their own shit in and out of these little venues, etc. Then packing up to make an 8 hour drive. I can see where the occasional hit of something strong would be attractive.
While I surely would have been a big fan in high school, his get fucked up, drive drunk, party harder than anyone else schtick is like watching a car wreck in slow motion. It’s weird to me when I see giant fans of him that are 30+, we’ve seen this arc enough to know it doesn’t work out well.
Look at Jason Boland, who went from singing drinking songs to apparently having a stroke around 30 and now sings at a 5 words per minute monotone pace
Never have understood the Wetzel appeal. Even when he first got started, it felt like a knockoff Casey Donahew, and it’s only gotten worse.
I had no idea he was so polarizing. Some of his stuff pops up on my Spotify and it's alright. Some decent enough sing along driving music. Some people from work are going so I figured why not.
Pretty damn good show at the Lynchburg Music Fest. Cody Johnson was supposed to be the main headliner, but apparently Jinks got a call less than 2 weeks ago saying they needed a replacement. He wouldn't play any of his new music though. He said it would be a couple more months. Also new metal album. Hell yeah.
Really damn good one out today. If you ever listened to The Fox Hunt or Prison Book Club, John was part of that.
i got to the hook of Coming Down before i realized what song that was. it doesn't seem as dreary in this new version.
With all his singles being good, I knew the John R. Miller album would be at least solid. Never expected it to be this good, though.
Under the Big Sky attenders, how did it go? Saturday was a shitshow as far as people, but overall I had a blast and would do it again
went great minus buying 3 day passes off stubhub that were only for the weekend but got that cleared up easily with them. VIP was the way to go as we got out every night very fast and easily also short lines for food and booze with nice portapottys. Paul Cauthen and Billy Strings were the tits
Stood behind Paul Cauthen in line at TSA. He seemed like he was barely alive. A couple buddies I know hung with him Saturday night at Remington and said he was cool as shit. He was hanging with Kayce from Yellowstone. How'd you get in Friday night? I think they need to increase prices and reduce the crowd by about 25%. Heard some stories about it taking forever to get out of VIP parking. We went away from the road back through the woods instead of out of the lot the way we came in and were home in 10 minutes each night.
Also, we left Billy Strings early to see Colter at the Remington. We had a buddy without Friday tix that was supposed to get in line and get us tix. Apparently you had to be in line at 7 pm to get tix for a 9 pm sale. We didn't get tix.
Where do most folks fly into for this festival? Feels like something I should put on the docket for next summer.
So VIP parking was also accommodating GA. We went towards the gates and went through the woods as well and we got out immediately
Yea, it was unclear the division of GA to VIP. We accidentally parked in GA Friday. Then figured out stay to the right rail to be VIP and park much closer.
