I love Gigi. I’m just hurt he left Milan. I wanted him to be my generations Maldini. Just as I loved Buffon I will love Gigi.
Pretty much every journo there talked about how horrible the experience was and they’ve probably seen a lot more shit than most of us have Why I mainly didn’t want England to win and depressing at same time.
Don’t agree with penalty decisions or sitting so deep or keeping Mount on so long(would have hooked him for Grealish around 60) Southgate wasn’t perfect but not an idiot. You can only do so much without midfielders capable of playing the possession game and back was so much more solid with Walker part of a 3. Get an ugly win if they don’t give up a set piece goal
Should UEFA move it because English fans are that fucking stupid. They shouldn’t get prominent games for the foreseeable future. They just let the invaders find free seats since were at 75% capacity
Maybe 25 year old Grealish should have stepped up to take a penalty and not let a 19 year old be the scapegoat
Hard to stomach supporting England, but I was actually rooting for them last night. Particularly gutted for Rashford, who seems like such a decent young fella. Really didn't want him to miss, regardless of the result.
Seems to me that Southgate did a good job this tournament but he was a little too dismissive of Grealish and a little too confident in Saka.
Saka still played pretty well though. Better than I expected, even as an Arsenal fan. And I don’t think Grealish playing more would have guaranteed the title. They were just both misused a bit.
I think dissecting penalty shootout decisions after the fact is mostly useless due to the fine margin of error between a goal and a miss. For example, Maguire had an inch perfect penalty top corner that could have easily rattled off of the bar, and there are always shit penalties that go in by virtue of the keeper guessing the wrong side. Sancho and Rashford are really good penalty takers so I don’t think Southgate should get much criticism for bringing them on when he did. But the Saka decision is just incomprehensible given his age and lack of penalty experience at the senior level.
Bringing them on cold in a tourney they barely played in to take 2 of the 10 most import touches of the tourney was dumb
I was also talking about the whole tournament in general. Seems Saka played more than commonly expected and Grealish played less.
I dunno, I’m not convinced it was dumb. I could easily see other players having missed instead and then the narrative being that he left good penalty takers on the bench. At the end of the day it’s all a bit random. Rashford is a great penalty taker, was subbed in right before the shootout and missed. Jorginho is a great penalty taker, played the entire match and missed.
seems crazy to say, but they're lucky it wasn't worse that it ended up being. if someone wanted to actually cause harm to a massive amount of people they could have easily taken advantage of that situation.
There was a moment caught on TV and I’m pretty sure it was Grealish being asked to take a kick and his response to the manager was less than enthusiastic. Asking kids who didn’t play in the game and a teenager to take massive PKs is such a terrible decision. Obviously had he chosen others and they missed he would be roasted for subbing on Sancho and Rashford and not using them. A no win situation. I think personally I would’ve rolled with a more veteran lineup on those kicks.
