Solometo at 37 then? The best available on mlb.com are him, Taylor, Chandler and MG2's boy Fabian. Some high school shortstops sitting there as well.
I have no clue how much money we have saved or whatever so it's impossible to know how much the HS kids on the board are in play. My personal hope would be for either Will Taylor (Clemson commit for FB and BB) or Peyton Stovall (2B from Louisiana). My guess is we'll take Fabian, Alex Mooney (HS SS from OLSM) or Ethan Wilson (small school college OF who fits the mold of "can kind of hit but can't play anywhere but LF) that we seem to like in this range.
When I read Ty Madden's draft profile I though "Bill Gullickson" for some reason. I went looking for Gullickson's scouting report and fount this treasure: Spoiler: Figidity The National Baseball Hall of Fame as an awesome collection of historical scouting reports here: https://collection.baseballhall.org/PASTIME/scouting-reports?page=20
I think the word on Mooney is he’s planning to go to college, but we’ll see if first round money can persuade him.
Pre-draft chatter was Pacheco would be a tougher sign than most of the HS kids in this range. We're going to sign him unless something weird happens. We'll probably know about Madden's deal at 32 if we start picking seniors already in the 3-5 round range. I'm hoping we don't.
He has no shot at staying at SS I read and is probably a 3rd Baseman. So we've taken likely 4 3rd baseman in our last 8 picks (probably for sure means they think Tork is a 1b long term)
Looks in line with where we took him. His first 2 years in college he struggled and looks like barely pitched. Had a good season this season.
I'm sure he's fine and they'll have to go over slot for Madden and Pacheco, but that's a pretty basic pick.
Haha, are you guys really stress over a 3rd round MLB draft pick? Like 70% of the guys taken in this round will never see the majors regardless of who is taken
26. Dylan Smith, RHP, Alabama Previously No. 25 Smith is an unusual prospect as a college pitcher who’s still more projection than present stuff, with a good delivery and the athleticism scouts love to see in development candidates. He has above-average control but below-average command and a change-up that he needs to use more to develop it.
But I would like to pick Mooney and throw some money at him, if for no other reason than to save him from becoming a typical Duke douchebag.
Baseball America has Smith at #56 on their current top 500 draft list. MLB Pipeline has Smith at #74 on their board. Over at ESPN Kiley McDaniel has Smith at #44 on his current board. Fangraphs has does not have Smith on their board. Keith Law is the high guy on Smith, placing him at #25 on his board.
I actually have some optimism for the guys picked so far. Jobe has a real bust risk, but his ceiling is enormous, Madden seems like a good pick at 32, Pacheco has a very nice scouting report and is a stark improvement over 2nd rounders like Quintana, Rey Riveria, Christin Stewart and the like and Dylan Smith seems fine. There is no reason to be mad at this point.
If Mayer got picked before us, I think a lot of people would have different opinions on this draft. It would be like the Pistons if they took Jalen Green or Evan Mobley. A month ago we'd all have been thrilled with it. But now we are in a position to get someone most of us think is better and want more.
Tigers take a probable money saver here in Bryant RHP Tyler Mattison. Big righty, 6-4/230, FB up to 97 with above avg CH, CB/CT also there though both below to fringe avg, improved strikes in a big way this spring. #PGDraft
That's good value for Dylan Smith. He's not like a lot of the college arms we've taken in this range for the last 15 years. He actually has a chance to start if he continues to improve his command. I'm assuming Mattison is going to get well below slot.
This kid was a RP for ND but he’s only been a full time pitcher for one season. He also still has two years of eligibility apparently so I am not even sure he’s going to be an easy sign.
I'd be surprised if he gets more than that slot. He's been at 3 schools and is already 22. He's not going to make more than this if he comes back for another year.
Player positions are announced however the team wants them to be. Torkelson played 1B for 3 years at ASU, but we announced him as a 3B. If we're announcing Murr as a OF, it means we intend to play him as a OF.
I remember this time last year people considered Luke Leto a high 1st rd pick, he hasn't been drafted yet. What happened to him.
Anyone of a BA subscription? People seem pretty high on the Jordan Marks pick. Honestly, if you swapped Jobe for Mayer I think fans would have been pretty pumped up over this draft
