finished moving in after a week of unpacking boxes. We are now the proud owners of SIX 10'x15' units at oak hill storage :killme:

Got tix to Colorado-Austin footie match at the end of the month. Heard great things about the stadium/experience. Hopefully we keep scoring goals.
Also got tix to Sylvan Esso at the new amphitheater next month. Pretty pumped to see how that place turned out. Remember seeing the model of it at the Waller Creek trippy art expo 3-4 years ago.

Also probably going to be going into the office for a few hours in the afternoon either on Thursdays or Fridays just because I'm the only person who's currently living in Austin for the firm and someone needs to check the mail and shit. And will be nice to get out of the house.

And because it's 4 blocks up from Little Woodrows on 6th so I'll probably use it as an excuse to do happy hours. If anyone else works downtown lmk I'm always down to grab a brewski (once I get rid of the last 10lb left of this covid weight)

Anyone that's been to Q2 - I couldn't find anywhere that lists what sections are in the "club" section that has beer included with the tickets. Friend of mine this weekend said he sat in 113 for a game a couple weeks ago and that one is one of them, but he thought it was like 113 + 2 sections to the left and the right. Price difference for those sections isn't that much from corner/endzone so paying an extra $40-50 is probably a good deal with free beer + a little better seat. I think ours for CO game are $175ea for the front row of 120. That price is probably on the high end because it's a saturday night game though

I've lived in both Austin/Houston and that article isn't that far off.

    Austin weather better
Austin music actually super overrated and Houston is much preferred at this point
Austin outdoors so much better. Houston offerings are laughable - nah i'm not gonna go sweat in the swamp that is Memorial park and discovery green is cool if you have kids in elementary school?
    Food better in Houston
    Austin is hilariously homogenous
Sports obviously better in Houston with pro teams

Something that article glosses over which is something we hated about Dallas - median home prices are $304k. Okay in actual Houston? Probably not. In some burbs that are 30-45min+ away from most of the city? Maybe so but does that even count? I guarantee you $400-500k homes in Austin are 1/2 as far away from the things you want to do in the city as they are in Houston

Houston has a good music scene and bars and restaurants, etc… how far is it from one to the other? How about two of your favorite bars in different “areas” of the city with completely different vibes? In Austin they’re a scooter ride away. In an actual big city it’s probably 30min to get from one to another

I’m curious what the grand total in Uber fares looks like for someone that lives “in Houston” in the $304k home price area to go from suburbia > restaurant > music venue/bar > home. That lifestyle is probably not the target demographic for that article I’m guessing. But it’s the lifestyle of a lot of the adult population in Austin.

I go to all types of shows - rap, jam band, lots of house music, etc. The selection in Houston is broader and bigger acts lately seem to have a propensity to go to Houston over Austin as well in addition to the smaller scene diversity.

I pay way more for ubers in Austin than Houston. It's kinda absurd how expensive they are here relative to other cities. Maybe part of that is covid still and labor is low, but that's been the trend all of 2021 and I'm back in Houston almost every month for some reason or another.

I don't really agree on the housing front either. I had a nice ass 2500 sq ft house for about 500k that was inside the inner loop, walking distance to bars/restaurants (lived in the Heights). 12 min to downtown. Everything else was 15 min drive or less.

Find me that in South Austin, you can't.

Bought a downtown condo a year ago….like not even in a really nice building. A place four floors below me with the identical square footage went on the market recently, for $130k over what I paid.

Only thing I question is the music one tbh. we haven't had live music in full swing in 18 months. the music scene in austin before that was still top notch. we'll see how it is by the end of the summer. two 2-night blues on the greens this year is pretty great

used to fux with Super Burrito when I lived at the Monarch bc it's basically at the 1st floor of the apartments. they claim cali-style texmex. which i found translated to a lot of guac and sour cream + french fries in a burrito.

It's good tho but that was their Cali Special and the french fries are just stupid to have on there

Headed to Austin end of August for a bachelor party, I searched this thread regarding bachelor party stuff but it was mostly 2+ years old so just wanted to check in to see whats current.

    Gathered some of the following:
    Restaurants for a 15+ group
Jester King, Jacoby's Mercantile, La BBQ, Micklethwait, Terry Black's or Stiles Switch, Kemuri Tatsu-Ya, Bobs rooftop.

    Bars
Rustic Tap, Kung fu and Greenlight Social for 6th street area
Shakespeare’s, Maggie Maes and Blind Pig for "dirty"
Recommendations for Rainey Street? 96 Bar..

Sorry if some of the locations are wrong, I've never been to Austin so still trying to figure out the lay of the land. If you have any other spots that might be good for a bachelor party I'm open to suggestions. Thanks.

Bob's rooftop I don't think does reservations and fills up quickly. Could do Perrys downtown if you want a private room or something for fancy steak.

Yes to Terry Blacks. La BBQ while delicious is tiny, but I haven't been to their new brick and mortar.

Kemuri Tatsu-ya is good but could also go to Ramen Tatsu-ya on the east side which has their bar (domo alley gato) next door and its big and wide open.

Easy Tiger on the eastside would be great.

Jester King is way the fuck away, if you want good beer go to better days just past west sixth or any of the spots on the east side.

Always plugging my boy Mo at Jewboy if you want an amazing burger and beers.

If you want to try and pick off some straggler's from a bachelorette party try Taquero Mucho (instagram influencer taco place) or P6 (rooftop bar overlooking the bats but need a reservation)

Bring your kevlar to dirty sixth.

    Agreed. It is traaaaaaaaashy.

West sixth for bachelorettes, east side for chill fun.

There is a bar right next to my apt called tiniest bar in texas, its where all of the beer crawler/ pedal parties start. It's basically a trailer with a patio and some food trucks. Cheap and good drinks.

I'm going to sound like a cynical old man but, any Rainey bar and any west 6th bar. They're all right next to each other and all the same.

East side/East sixth is anything east of I35. Dirty sixth is Congress to I35. West sixth is west of congress.

East side is more chill and more variety with bars. There's a place called Nickel City with an amazing bourbon selection and then they have a food truck that makes some of the best sliders I've ever had that will bring them to your table.

They also dress up as Moe's Tavern for Halloween
