Veteran LHD who is solid to pair with Seider his rookie year, I get the idea behind it. I really don't think it's awful.
Leddy is a better player than Panik Real solid LHD, on last year of contract. Can play with Seider to help develop him and move him at the deadline and probably get a 2nd back
Not a fan of giving up a 2nd rounder. Our defenseman suck, so Leddy is definitely an upgrade. guess this means we don’t protect Choblowski in the expansion draft?
I am curious if another move is coming now to add another D we can protect. I get the sense Yzerman is fine exposing all these guys but Hronek and Leddy.
My hunch is Yzerman gets a 2 back before the expansion lists are due tomorrow. If he does, that helps make this deal more palatable. It’s still a bad deal though.
I won’t be shocked if we protect Stetcher and let Cholowski go to Seattle. In fact, I’m going to say that happens. Just call it a hunch. I think Merrill is returning on a two year deal, this setting up our top seven. I also think Glendening return s now that Panik is gone. Bernier probably comes back in net as well. For now I’ll say we hold onto Bert, but I won’t be shocked if he’s dealt either. With all that said, here is how I see the roster shaking out opening night: Bert - Larkin - Fabbri Vrana - Veleno - Zadina Namestakov - Rasmussen - Erne Smith - Glendening - UFA (Ryan?) Nielsen/Pearson Leddy/Seider Merrill/Hronek DeKeyser/Stetcher Lindstrom Bernier Greiss
Honestly I think they are keeping him because the team was pushed around a bit last year, and they need someone to defend Mo when he inevitably causes a shit storm. He’s a perfectly adequate 4th liner.
There a lot of good goalies available, but if I was Seattle I'd at least consider Bernier from our list. He is on a reasonable contract and has played real well for us
Bobby Margarita’s final list 1. Power 2. Beniers 3. Edvinsson 4. Eklund 4. McTavish 6. Guenther 7. Clarke 8. Hughes 9. Johnson 10. Lucius 11. Sillinger 12. Wallstedt 13. Coronato 14. Lysell 15. Cossa 16. Othmann 17. Svechkov 18. Rosen 19. Bolduc 20. Bourgault His is based on a scout consensus so his list is a great indicator of what to expect
Edvinsson is so intriguing but you basically need him to unlock Seider’s level of offense in his d+1 season. Striking oil twice with two young D making that kind of leap just seems so unlikely, but man he’s intriguing. I doubt he makes it to six though, so it’s irrelevant.
I get it with Johnson, but I believe his offensive upside is the most dynamic. I just don’t know if his pace translates to the pros. I am fine if we gamble on that happening though.
Johnson doesn’t seem to fit the profile the Wings have targeted with top picks in years past. I’ll say one of Eklund or McTavish gets to 6 and that’s the pick.
I am starting to think the top of the draft ends up forward heavy, which will present an interesting situation for us at 6. I’m going to guess we are the following: 1. Power 2. Beniers 3. Eklund 4. Edvinsson 5. McTavish We would be sitting there with Hughes, Clarke, Johnson and Guenther available, but when you look at Yzerman’s history as a GM, I don’t think a guy like Hughes is someone he would pick. He doesn’t have any history of taking a guy with Hughes profile, which is to say someone with serious defensive concerns. With Clarke, we have a similar type player (offensive minded RHD with skating concerns) in Tuimisto. And then a guy like Guenther has shades of Brett Connelly to his game. Connelly was Yzerman’s first pick in Tampa and he was a huge bust. It makes me wonder if the first five picks go as I predicted above, would we reach on Svechkov on 6? I think Svechkov is more likely at 6 than a goalie fwiw. That’s just conjecture on my part though.
Meh, probably worth a gamble for them based on our list. Stecher had some trade value, but im glad he is staying. We actually could have a competent defense next year if we sign another LHD in free agency.
A lot, wouldn't shock me if he's 1st line by end of year. Think he gets paired with Leddy, which I think is major reason we made that trade. Think we sign another LHD to pair 2nd line with Hronek. And Dekeyser-Stecher 3rd line until Dekeyser gets hurt
Cale Makar played about 21 minutes a night as a rookie. He’s a good comparable since he too debuted in his D+3 season, and has a similar draft pedigree. The biggest difference is likely that the time Makar played on the PP will be what Mo spends on the PK. I think come years end he will be third on the team behind Leddy and Hronek.
Haven't done nearly the investing into this draft I have past couple years. Probably a good thing so I won't be disappointed when we don't pick someone I fell in love with.
