Today’s ride whooped my ass. Was mostly out of the saddle. I cannot seem to get above a 65-70 cadence when doing so.
I’m no expert, and I was having this same problem. I was too far forward. My wife told me I needed to be be further back toward the seat, and that has made a big difference in meeting my cadence.
I’m still in the beginners program, but it was a 20 min rock ride with Olivia. I was thinking it was more about technique. I’ll try being further back and see if that helps. It could also be that I’m just a pussy and it really works my quads.
65-70 is a very natural standing cadence. I rarely go above that except when sprinting. As you pedal more and more your motion will become efficient and smooth and your cadence will likely rise. My preferred seated cadence has gone up about 5RPMs in the last year.
Yeah, she loves calling out really high standing cadences. I just don’t see the point. It’s a good way to get injured if your form is sub-par. I try to keep mine sub 80, but to each their own.
Oh I agree with that. Before seeing the beginner part I assumed he was comparing to some of the insane call outs. Although admittedly I don’t ride out of the saddle all that much except for bootcamps.
shes literally the only one that calls those insanely high out of saddle cadences. I figure she’s got short legs or something, it doesn’t seem to be a thing for other instructors.
Warning: random rambling thoughts post. Saturday has been my long day for as long as I can remember. Out door run or ride before now more peloton. Usually do at least 20 miles for some reason probably because I plan to eat all the food and drink all the beer tomorrow I decided to ride for 90 minutes did close to thirty. I used to do this more often and I forgot how much it sucks and how cool it is at the same time. I love Pearl Jam absolutely love them. When I saw there was a Pearl Jam ride I was stoked . Then I saw it was Jenn Sherman and was instantly disappointed. Thought what will win out my love Pearl Jam or my hate of her. I took the ride and I swear she is the only who could fuck that ride up. JFC shut the fuck up. Let me hear one line at least. I’ve been stretching for at least 15 minutes and that has made a world of difference to my recovery. I like “lower body” stretches better than post ride ones. Those seem to be on the ground more and that allows me to focus more on the stretch than balance or standing on tired legs. Also get a massage gun if you don’t have one.
Do you guys find using a heart rate monitor/Apple watch or something of that nature enhances the ride experience? I don’t have either as I’ve been opposed to them but as I ride I like the metrics quite a bit and they obviously aren’t as accurate without those tools. Conversely, I can easily compare ride numbers right now since I don’t have anything measuring my heart rate and such and those variables remain unchanged altogether. Do I take the plunge and get something for a better time?
I like the heart rate monitor. Its good to know when I'm really pushing and when I'm comfortable. Also seeing the improvements in my cardio where I used to be in zone 5 on some is now like a 3/4 to get the same output.
Absolutely. Having that data makes a world of difference. I use the Wahoo Ticker Fit that goes on your forearm. Lots of people also use the Soche Rhythm. Peloton is currently working on a new HRM that will have an optical display that shows your heart rate zone. That’s why they made the Strive Score metric so prominent.
My personal opinion on all of the tech metrics (as someone that loves data) is to have them, but not get caught up in them. Strive score is a bit useless because it is dependent on knowing your max heart rate which isn’t easy to determine, especially on a bike. I do find it very useful, but on the macro. It’s nice to know how quickly I can recover, whether my body is actually warmed up, and similar items. On the bike, knowing my power zone and which zone I’m in is just as effective as knowing my heart rate. Where I find the active monitoring most useful is on activities like stretching to know what my body thinks is more difficult that what my muscles are telling me.
I have the regular bike so my Apple Watch is basically useless and I’ve never bought a heart rate monitor so IDK what I am missing out on.
Hotel had a Peloton which was a first for the toe cages. Thought it would have a bigger impact but pretty seamless ride.
Probably shouldn’t have drank tonight. My ma is sick and idk how much longer I have her. Took the mood ride with Emma today and it hit different. This has been the best thing I’ve ever bought.
I wish there was more curated/guided training modules, specifically with regard to strength training. I know they have "total strength" etc, but I want to follow different trainers. I'm just rotating lower body/upper body and don't feel like it's at all optimized. Nit picky thing I guess.
My cool down rides have been all fucked up the last 2 days. Did the newest one from Kendall and it had a skip intro so hit that then it sent me a full minute into the ride, had no leaderboard thing or guidance for cadence/resistance. Then did an older Emma one and had same issue, no music, no leaderboard, no guidance. Really weird and annoying.
When do y'all use the massage guns for best results, immediately following a ride? Immediately before a ride when your leg are already tired?
I use it after a couple hard days usually to help with recovery. I tend to use it see it like I did with foam rolling.
My knees are a bit sore after my past couple rides. I believe this is due to my saddle not being raised high enough. I knew yesterday I had it too low, cause my legs weren't very extended when the pedals were close to the ground. Seems kinda silly there's no "pause" feature for On-demand classes, yet.
Almost done with the Build Your Power Zone program. So glad I’ll never had to take another ride with Christine.
I think a few people have the Rhythm HR monitor. Anyone had issues where the light is solid red and it won’t work? Mines connected to the bike but says my HR is 60 and just not moving. Will randomly blink blue like it’s working then go back to solid red light.
A video game of sorts coming to the Bike and Bike+ later this year… https://www.theverge.com/platform/a...-in-app-game-launch?__twitter_impression=true
Finally got moved into new place and got my Bike+ delivered. Hit a new 45 minute PR on Christine's Rent class yesterday. Both of my 30 and 45 minute PRs are now to Broadway classes.
Finally started Build Your Powerzones, solid way to get back at it before football season starts. Going to also add the crush your core on the “rest” day of the BYPZ. Need to decide what I want to do strength wise, that’s an area I need to incorporate into my fitness. What weights do you guys use?
like the guy with 5999 rides will care about what the guy with 3 thinks. Come on!!!!! just cause I care about my recovery don’t hate
I have the tread+ and love it. It has greatly enhanced my life as a runner. I use it more than the bike by a long shot. Some of that is probably personal preference though.
Ill be joining the fam towards the end of next week when my bike gets delivered, ready to see how bad of shape i really am in!
I’ve been lurking. My replacement bike+ finally was released from XPO hell four weeks ago. I am seeking marked improvement and now hitting in the top 10% of advanced beginner classes. What’s recommended next class steps from the group?
