British Open may have skewed things in that regard. Short game and putting are a totally different beast in links golf.

I’ve got a GD shaft in a hybrid that a pga player gave me. It is the best club in my bag by far

was able to get the rest of the round in after about an hour wait for the rain. Still proud of my round but could have been a personal best if I could of made a few birdies. Probably one of my best driving rounds I’ve had. Trying to get a controlled cut. Gave up just trying to crush and focusing more on putting it in the fairway. Only missed one fairway. That course is in my top 5 of courses I’ve played in my life.

It’s crazy as it just depends on luck. Could be a mile in either direction and never would have felt a drop.

True. I just figured if I said outskirts of Estero no one would know. Probably should have said fort Myers instead.

Yeah “South Fort Myers” is probably the best description, or “right next to Dunk City” for the college basketball enthusiasts.

Almost 2 whole years into my learning the game of golf adventure. I’m doing decent (for me) and can really hit some of my clubs for distance (I can get 170 out of my 7 iron sometimes, can crush the 3 and 5 hybrids).

But to the negative, I can’t hit driver to save my life. Like I won’t even get it out of the bag most rounds it’s so bad (slicing, worm burners, etc).

I usually just hit my 3 hybrid off the box or my 3 wood, whichever is working better that day. I can get off around 200+ yards with those clubs but to get under 100 and eventually under 90 someday I’m going to have to figure out this driver.

    Anyone have any good advice?

Get lessons from someone who uses a track man/gcquad and video. And don’t ’t take swing advice from anyone else.

I was thinking that tonight at the range. I usually start with my wedges and work my way up the bag. Was hitting the ball really well and then I wanted to hit 20 balls or so with driver….shanked every god damn one of them. Then I couldn’t hit my 56 degree after that like it fucked up my swing

It’s funny you bring up warming up. I’m curious what everyone else’s routine is. I warm up the same way. Start with my 150 club which is 9 iron. Then move to 5 iron. Then usually the 7 for a few swings. Then 56 degree to do full shot and short shots. Then finish with the driver.

Driver really isn’t necessary on many holes if you can get 200+ off the tee with other clubs.

I really only use my driver now on driveable par 4s or shorter par 5s. On long par 5s I don’t even try to reach in 2 anymore.

    A few SW, then PW, 8i, 6i, 4i, 3w and maybe driver 2-3 times.

Will tee up 4i a couple times, then 7-9 and maybe a wedge depending on the course and the length of the par 3s.

For most of my life I’ve sucked with a driver. I was always 5 iron or wood off the tee. I just focused on keeping it in play and giving myself chances to get on the green in regulation. Don’t stress about the driver. If your goal is to break 100 keep the ball in play off the tee and focus on the short game. You’ll make up way more strokes keeping it in play and picking up strokes chipping and putting. My shitty rounds are usually from bad days of 50 yards in.

I hit four 54 degree wedges, three pitching wedges, three 7 irons, three five irons, three drives, and I "play" the first hole (driver, 9 iron for a par 4). Then, about 15 putts.

Orange whip. 7 or 8i 3/4 swings to smooth full. Driver. Sand or gap wedge variety shots - different lengths, trajectories, targets. Not many swings.

I take my 54 out, narrow stance ball in the middle, simple chips for 10 balls just working contact, which is funny because I don’t play that on the course at all. Then go 50 degree ball back in stance for a few shots. Then driver, six, 8, pitch. Anytime I hit a bad shot of any variety I place a “marker”. If it happens a second time in a row I go back to the warm up pitches to kind of clear the chamber. A lot of the time though I just get wedges and driver, which is fine.

Will def vouch for paying for some lessons. If you play on playing for the rest of you life, even infrequently, its a must. Golf is so much more enjoyable knowing you're not gonna shank every drive, and spend too much time looking for balls. The peace of mind going on a nice course and keeping the ball in the fairways most of the time is amazing. Even you you still 3 putt :loldog:

I love Zalotoris but that putter scares me at the Ryder Cup (aside from that gif at the Open - I think that probably had something to do with the injury - but it's still shaky)
