Also - Tarasenko makes 9.5M in real money this year. That has to be another big road block for some teams. Only makes 5.5 in his last year though.
Like Truman said, interested how many of these teams are on his list. I would imagine there is a 0% chance Nashville is on his list, not that Poile would try to make a move for him anyway
If the kraken land Coleman in free agency and play Tanev in the goodrow role with gourde that could be a very fun line.
That pick is one I didn’t see coming. Everyone said demelo. I wonder if the jets gave up assets to get them not to take demelo I guess Adam larsson pick/signing and Appleton was a better combo in their mind.
Not saying you were one of them, but so many fanbases deluded themselves into thinking that Seattle would just happily eat bad contracts without getting paid to do it.
It's a pretty cunning move to lay off the big cap hits. They had a high asking price to leave players alone. They're gonna have a high asking price to help w cap hits now, and teams will be up against it.
I would argue that JVR's contract is very reasonable considering his production and how scarce offense was for Seattle in this draft. if the Kraken were going to take Voracek, I would have expected the Flyers to incentivize them.
I don't think we see many side deals from Seattle. Considering that, this is a masterclass in expansion drafting. Very little risk, maintain a bunch of valuable cap space, and still have a team that should be competitive in a weak division.
Bayreuther over Domi from CBJ Geekie over Bean from Carolina True from SJ Donskoi from COL Lauzon from BOS MacDermid from LA
JVR is overpaid with the cap where it is and I think there are likely guys who don’t play the PP minutes he does that Seattle will look at and think they can get similar production from if they got the chance for a lot less. the biggest thing for Seattle IMO is to try and focus more on 5v5. Only 7 even strength goals last season for a 32 year old on $7 million a year is a lot.
I’d imagine they’re going to be pretty active in free agency, now. And also continue trying to twist teams arms that are up against the cap in trade.
Damn. Really wanted Bean. Pretty funny, but both actually played for Tri-City Americans so I’ve actually seen them both play in person.
or give minimal assets that they got in bribes for good players. They can give Tampa a pick for a guy like palat who can play for them for half the season and probably be flipped for at least a 1st at the trade deadline. If foligno is worth a 1st and a 4th, what would palat be worth at the deadline?
My guess is, you can't get goal scoring many places in an expansion draft, so they took it where they could find it.
yeah I thought this was a live thing. I’ll watch tonight but I’ll have it on in the background. This 10am thing instead of just having the hurricanes announce at the draft, live on tv is so dumb
Don't like this for Nashville. Jarnkrok was able to slide anywhere in the lineup when injuries have hit in the past. Really solid all-around player who doesn't make dumb mistakes. Hope he does well in Seattle
Have to think they will be involved with him but it’s tough to tell how good they’re trying to be next season yet. If they are committed to building over 3-5 years, he may not make sense.
I think it will depend on what kind of offers they can get to take on salary from other teams. If he was making 4-5 a year I think they’d take him. Maybe the flyers give the kraken a 2nd rounder or something like that and they take him. Tough to tell what Seattle’s plan is at this point. They haven’t taken many veteran guys. Are they saving the cap space for bribes or just going to have a team sitting 10 million under the cap year one?
I’m a tad surprised they didn’t take a chance on domi with 1 year left but they obviously didn’t believe in him.
without knowing who paid bribes for them to select/not select a certain player it’s hard to judge the selections. I hate a few of the picks but if the hurricanes for example gave them a 1st and a 3rd not to select nino and bean, my opinion changes some. I will say the lack of cap spent and reported centers so far does make them the most likely destination for a Tyler Johnson trade but I think Tampa is going to have to give up the 2022 1st or a mid round pick and a prospect to make that happen.
