Texas giving ESPN a lifeline to get out of the Longhorn Network albatross I feel bad for LSU more than A&M
if Texas is given their bid to Sigma Eta Chi, there is zero chance they get to retain the LHN. A move like this was certainly orchestrated by ESPN. At least in a significant part.
Money is certainly nice. But Oklahoma could stay put and get CFP autobids every year under the 12 team CFP model.
If you do four divisions of 4, you can play the 3 teams in your division and then 2 from each other division for a 9 game conference season. If you do this, you can have a home and home every year with teams in your division and a home and home every other year with teams outside your division. I think I might vote for 4x4.
Can’t see more 0 to 10% of SEC school administrations wanting any more teams in conference. Could be wrong though
they will make more money with the SEC's media contract coming up + plus whatever they can sell their 3rd tier rights to Texas Public Broadcasting and/or their own School-created Streaming App. than whatever LHN plus the next Big12 deal fetches them that is why they are asking to be let in
Dan Mullen is somewhere heavily regretting his comments about being able to play Bama in the regular season more a mere two days ago
i fail to see how this move helps the big 10. Big ten would have to add what notre dame, Clemson, unc?
Was just about to post this. Don't really care if they want to be the only Texas school in the conference. Not their decision.
I would think so. Or you go to more than 2 divisions/pods. But them in the East is cleanest break given their two crossovers are in the East.
Would only need to move one to the east if Oklahoma and Texas joined the west to have 8/8 although I think east and west would go away at a 16 team conference. adding Texas and Oklahoma would bring a ton more money so that could sway some votes
best two records play I guess? This article seems fairly reasonable https://www.bannersociety.com/2019/8/15/20734585/college-football-divisions-pod-system
Does a championship game matter for them anymore? With a 12 team playoff you will get the SEC champ, the runner up, and the runner ups from each division anyway.
Probably just do top 2 finishers and not really fret it from SoS balance grope bc of expanded playoff. Already may be in play to get rid of divisions and just go top 2 in a reformed scheduling format in 2025. You are likely going to see Conf Champ games die anyway one day (SEC is the only one with a truly profitable big ticket item as-is that would like to hold onto it).
You have four pods of four that rotate every two years So, in years 1 and 2: Division X - Pod A and B Division Y - Pod C and D Then they rotate Years 3 and 4 Division X - Pod A and C Division Y - Pod B and D So on and so forth. Everyone would play a home and home every six years.
Just want to reiterate that Southern Miss is available. Please god someone take us. Anyone but CUSA or MAC would be cool. Hell I’m open to the sun belt at this point. It’s been more competitive recently and makes for easier travel. We the thirstiest chick at the bar and ready to go home with anyone
at this point yall need to pray this does not happen bc if it does it likely accelerates P5 Football breakaway from the rest of D1
