Orangebloods just put out a report saying OU and Texas plan on letting the big 12 know they wouldn’t extend the existing set of media rights next week. And today’s leak came from A&M to try and make the move more difficult
Sounds to me like Tennessee just paid for renovations to the baseball stadium and didn’t have to go rattle the can at those dickhead Haslams.
On the flipside, tons of posters on Surly Horns think that there's no way the cesspool of the Texas Legislature doesn't get involved in all this.
I wonder how much of this is about trying to get Fox to pay up. OU/Texas will be giving up basically 1 playoff spot for sure and possibly 2 on good years
Need to go to 20. OU, Texas, Va, NC and 2 others. 4 pods of 5 for football. Nothing stopping Duke and UNC from continuing their rivalry ooc.
This all culminates in the formation of like two mega conferences controlled by ESPN that then form four or five divisions, effectively forming their own Power 4/5 just without the teams they don’t want.
The only conference that could compete with an SEC+UT/OU, in terms of money/performance/influence, would be a dissolution of the ACC/B1G and merger of the best brands.
The biggest reason is we've been dogshit on the field in the last 10 years. Replace the Charlie Strong and Tom Herman years with 10 win seasons and who is in what conference doesn't matter.
man, the PAC-12's head is probably spinning because they know the dominos this move is about to topple.
It has to be 16 teams with 4/4 pods with a 9 game conference schedule. Each team has a designated rival in each pod.
KY, TN, Vandy, WV, Missouri Texas, OU, A&M, AR, Kansas AL, Miss, Miss st, Auburn, LSU VA, NC, SC, FL, GA Who says no?
VA and NC because they are never leaving the ACC considering that they, along with Duke, basically control the ACC.
TCU and TTU and Baylor all have more value because they aren’t in a state of less than 2 million people KU has a nationally relevant basketball program but it’s important to remember no one gives a fuck about basketball or really how good you are at any sport period in all this with all that said it has always been my opinion that if you are currently P5 you will stay P5 and I expect that to be the case in some form or another
Big picture question - are we (and somewhat quickly) moving toward a 30 or so team Super League with no more NCAA involvement?
Would the state legislature let UVA go and leave VT behind? The rationale for the VT move from the BE was on supposedly that UVA and VT needed to be in the same conference.
I imagine Iowa State’s AD is getting his resume together, or drawing a hot bath with a bottle of wine and a razor blade.
The Honorable Geoff Ketchum: We will have this in a story format soon, but... 1. Texas/OU are expected to inform the Big 12 in the next week or so that the two schools do not in tend to renew rights agreements. 2. Texas is prepared to say goodbye to the Longhorn Network if it joins the SEC.
