For the love of god can we put it all in OU/Texas to SEC thread. Work is gonna be hard enough today without constantly refreshing two threads
Idk been a while since I looked at it. I just objected to you saying nobody need to play anyone. Disagree, there's a game or two per team that need to happen. CFB isn't the same without UA/AU and FL/GA.
I wouldn’t think so. But, I drunkenly emailed our AD last night to make sure. I’m pretty sure that yes vote is in the bag.
It’d be hard to turn down the money. The miss schools know they aren’t winning a championship in football so the more money to support baseball then they’re happy.
Yeah. Bottom line is the college board in MS would have some say in the vote I would think. They have a financial and fiduciary responsibility to MS State and Ole Miss. I would assume when presented with the financial data and the opportunity for more money they will push for a yes vote to include schools like UT and OU.
I just can’t imagine an AD at MS State or Ole Miss going to the presidents of those universities and saying “look, I know we can get 10 million more plus a year, but we should vote no”. They going to get overridden and have to vote yes. Assuming it’s the ADs that actually make the vote/decision in this scenario
with those endowments uhh $10 million more a year is a big ducking deal so they are obviously yes votes
Doubt a cent of this ever makes it in an endowment. Though maybe it frees up other monies to go there
Well almost all ADs are going to want a bigger budget. Really A&M may be the only one willing to pass. Just because they don’t want to be associated with UT. Just my thoughts on it and probably all current schools including A&M in the SEC are wanting to know “how much more money” and that will ultimately guide which way they vote.
The Mississippi schools are somewhat unique in that the state’s IHL board runs all of the state’s universities. Each school doesn’t have its own board of trustees like in other states. The IHL board hires the schools’ chancellors, often without a whole lot of input from the school itself. So, if we want to get technical, it will be making the decision.
a lot of these schools will want access to bringing in more out of state tuition (and better quality students) from Texas students (who will then ideally become donating alumni in Texas urban cores rather than an insurance broker in Tupelo or Natchez). moreso than $10m more per year in TV revenue
That's interesting. Hypothetically, if say the MSU president was against expansion for whatever reason but the IHL board was for it, you think the board would step in (and potentially remove the president)?
I would think so just based on what I know about our system here.. Plus if I’m not mistaken the Governor is the final say on our IHL/College Board that governs our colleges. He’s a MS State guy if that matters in this situation. wes tegg cant the Governor veto or override any thing the IHL does?
As I'm getting over the fact that once again we will never win in football, I'm warming up to the idea. Both schools will be fun for football, basketball and baseball. Home schedules will be fap worthy
I met Mississippi State’s full time Houston recruiter at a bar one night. That’s when i knew things were different than I realized.
I would imagine the conference alignment/scheduling could be like basketball? No divisions but still have three permanent opponents (Georgia, Tennessee, and Miss State for us) and the rest would rotate. I don’t understand the pod idea unless the SEC championship was going to be a four team playoff with all the pod winners. Either way I think the OGs of the league will have to get rid of some of their yearly in conference rivalries to make it work.
Did not know Mizzou fans were so salty. It's time to let go of that hate and let Daddy come back home.
Just bring Oklahoma State in with OU and let Vanderbilt be free. They can join us in the Big Ten where we prioritize Quiz Bowls over New Years Six Bowls. Plus OU, OSU, UT and A&M would be a super funny pod.
honestly the MWC is an arguably easier path for us because we would have the best facilities in the conference and we’d win a lot in both sports and have good chances at football and basketball post season success. the road trips are also insane in that conference and I’d probably end up being a bigger fan because I wouldn’t have to justify participating the clown show that is modern major college football so I really don’t care where we end up either way. redone B12 is most likely, if not it’s MWC or probably a 50/50 shot at landing in the B16 or P16 if they choose to expand too. I would not be super surprised to see everyone go to 16 because imo with the shift to streaming services, content will mean more than geography
After sleeping on it, think im still against it. Not bc I don't want them in the SEC, but bc I don't want to see the B12 die. I like variety and having the 5 conferences is cool. OU coming in would be pretty seamless but seeing UT get accustomed to not having the entire league cave to their every desire would be funny to watch. A&M would get their rivalry game instead of trying to force one with others.
Bammers (actually, only dbl) still mad Texas would have leveled a historic beatdown had Colt not been injured. Time to move on.
The governor doesn’t have any veto authority over board actions but as you say he does appoint all twelve seats, although there is a fairly significant push to split that appointment authority up among gov., lt. gov, and speaker. All of the appointments Reeves has thus far made to the IHL have been massive campaign contributors.
with the whole confederacy back together again, it's just like old times, which were obviously not forgotten. i guess we're still missing VA and NC tho
To add to this, Texas almost joined the pac 12 in 2010 and when the rest of the schools found out, it led to the mass exodus over the next year. Obviously I'm very happy with the way it played out, but at the time Mizzou, Colorado, A&M, and Nebraska were basically just trying to make sure they had a chair when the music inevitably stopped.
