Right if anything people are tired of our faux free market approach that is actually corporate socialism. If we're going to do a free market approach we should also let labor benefit when the market dictates it should. It's a pro-labor position far more than it's an anti-free market position

Because the context matters. As I just said a lot of markets are rigged or inequitable. When they mock let the market decide it’s because it’s not a real market and there’s some things a market cannot fairly decide.

What does “letting the market decide” mean to you? It’s a concept which has different meanings to different people, and many, if not most, of those meanings deserve to be mocked.

If someone thinks a company having to pay people more to attract them is a bad thing, then you are essentially saying that people need less help and need to be poor in order for low paying jobs can exist.

Which is some level of awfulness I can’t understand.

Then yes, that deserves mockery. And for many reasons, but especially since the mechanism used to generate substantial wealth in this country, the corporation, is only recognized because of “government interference” saying that a legal fiction exists which separates the group as an individual from those individuals who make up the group.

I have no issue w targeted sanctions on individuals. It's the nationwide embargos that are crimes of humanity. Unless Im over looking something, there's no conflict between individual sanctions and full embargo.

IDGAF if they sanction deserving individuals - just lift the damn embargo.

I am not in favor of child labor or forced labor, but the evil truth is you and I probably contribute to it regularly. I buy Nikes. I bought a diamond that could very well have been mined by a kid in Africa. I know we all try our best, but the idea that non-regulated free markets are evil because it harms kids and poor people.....now where are my Air Zooms, I need to go for a run! is a tad disingenuous.

Granted, I don't know you, maybe you go to great lengths to avoid those evils. And if so, good on you, but you are the exception.

I do think some regulation is necessary and ultimately good. I'll modify my statement: government interference in the free market should be as minimal as possible.

they first consolidate power and crush competition and then if needed use the government to codify their power.

when organics first hit the market there was a huge push by agribusiness to change the requirements of what could be labeled organic so that the term basically lost all meaning. Killed their competition without lifting a finger

Yes, I am critiquing lack of regulation, and I clarified my position (government interference in the free market should be as minimal as possible).

Just understand that your position is that it's evil to have lack of regulation, while you enjoy the "benefits" of lack of regulations.

People on here have mocked the idea that people believe there is a market free from government rules establishing how it operates. There is no “free” market. There never has been. There has always been markets that operate within the confines of the governments that allow them to exist.

In a world where we are the government, we get to change those rules about how markets operate.

Well only in a government which is built on the idea that pluralism will lead to the “best” policy, but doesn’t have the safeguards in place to ensure that the competing interests on which pluralism relies have fair opportunities to be represented in the policy making process. Which ours doesn’t. Instead, interests which are more well organized and funded almost always control how policy is set.

When people say let the free market decide normally what they are saying is there shouldn’t be any guardrails places on corporations by the government in order to let those corporations make as much money as possible.

The argument is that over a large enough time horizon the well-funded interests will erode the safeguards and bring us right back here.
